    Agreed, using KDE 4.4.5 (Kubuntu 10.04) its perfectly usable on my Atom 510, booting windows it ran at a crawl.

    I had lots of books, then my house flooded (Brisbane). Now I have lots of pulp.

    However my eBooks are fine, even if I lost my Kindle I can access them online - plus I have them backed up independent of Amazon.

    Therein lies part of the problem I think - yes it is safe, but people read that as saying its *perfectly* safe which of course is not the case - nothing is %100 safe. Trouble is, people seem to demand that of nuclear.

    Yup, exactly the same thing happened here in Queensland, Australia. I used to buy my power direct from the energery company (Energex) that produced it and maintained the power lines. When shit went wrong I could talk direct to them.

    Now I buy power for more from a company that only specialises in billing and problems are dealt with via an Indian call center.

    Osmos isn't as good as dozens of free Flash games

    I must disagree most strongly with that - hidef responsive and beautiful graphics, gorgeous sound track, in depth game play - much better than any flash game.

    Already done for some time. From personal experience (various myth setups) the NVidia chipsets support HDMI output with upto 7.1 surrond sound, natively supported on Ubuntu.

    I imagine ATI etc are also supported for this.

    Israel is noticeably, quite literally, greener than its neighbours.

    That's why they deserve that land, they take better care of it.

    Bullshit. Israel is destroying it - this "making the desert bloom" crap is destroying the water aquifers there which is one of reasons Israel is pulling so many provocative actions with Lebanon, they want an opportunity to seize access to the Litani river.

    The Palestinians have literally spent centuries developing olive grove orchards which are very sustainable in desert climes. Then "settlers" bulldoze them down and plant Orange groves and other such water intensive plants such as Celery, exhausting the local aquifers, leaving just a fraction of water they've pissed in for the Palestinians.

    It would still be nice to have a single way to keep my bookmarks from my work machine in sync with my home machines and my mobile devices without exerting much effort.

    You could set your browser prefs to save their bookmarks to Dropbox, and then they'd be the same everywhere.

    I do that with my konqueror/rekonq bookmarks, works a treat.

    Rekonq still crashes each time I go to google maps. Latest git commit crashes on startup

    Probably an issue with restoring the session, try deleting ".kde/share/apps/rekonq/session"

    Word. I recently moved my wife's desktop to Kubuntu 10.04. Its just a low power Atom but its easily powerful enough for web/email/wp/basic games which is all she wants.

    I tweaked the desktop and menu to the same layout as her windows desktop, installed wine and some old windows games she's addicted to (they worked perfectly under wine). Setup Thunderbird and Firefox, which was what she used under windows and added some desktop links to the KDE card games.

    No problems from day one, she was straight into it. Now addicted to the KDE games :)
