The claim is being made that Lieberman was defeated by a grass roots campaign. Is that not a good enough example for something on the national level? Or is it the case that "voting doesn't work" only when the outcome isn't what you & your buddies want?
I agree. I was in a minor accident earlier this year that the cops determined wasn't my fault, but the insurance company for the old lady that hit me refused to accept that and insisted that I was partially at fault. I eventually filed it with my insurance company and had to wait for them to refund my deductible after they settled with the other company. I didn't want to go that route because I didn't want to wait 2+ months, but it worked out better in the end. The differences in the repair estimates was well over $1000 and I didn't have to wait weeks to get something done.
for the applications that we have now, no. But with that sort of network in place, it would be interesting to see how it's used. Also, who said the kids were unattended? Put the PC(s) in the family/living room where the parents can easily keep tabs on them.
why not? This doesn't sound too farfetched: geek trying to catch up with some work, his wife is one the phone, and the kids are playing games and watching videos.
Most of the senior citizens that I know spend most of their time keeping up with politics. Much more than any non-retired person who isn't in politics or a politics junkie. The uninformed are the ones that get bussed to the polls, given a premarked sample ballot during the ride, and then vote that way because they don't know anything about the candidates or ballot issues.
It's also too bad that the state legislatures don't elect the US Senators. That gave the states some leverage with the Federal government and wouldn't require the enormous amount of funds to campaign for a US Senate seat.
don't forget dorky looking. even the manufacturers of the little SUVs like to give the impression that they are going for the adventurous, outdoorsy type young buyer.
The GM vehicles with the 3.8 V6 get good mileage too (27-28). My family has had at least 3 of them in the recent past (dad, mom, younger sister). The transmissions will go to hell long before those engines will - they should last at least 250K.
that's ok. the original poster said to get an old one, so it doesn't matter if they're still in production. there are gobs of Tauruses around, so parts will be plentiful for the time being.
but if it do, it won't be hard for someone to fix it. the 1985 model certianly won't have all the gadgets and other crap that GM tacked onto it after it became a status symbol.
it's still not the same as real socializing. get a bunch of people that visit message boards to actually meet each other and you will find that the shut-in types are still uncomfortable and will position themselves near the edge of the group. If anyone is talking to them, it's because the other person initiated it. Get too high of a concentration of the shut-ins and the party bombs. Been there, done that. Even if I only get to talk to 1 or 2 people, it's still much, much better than the message board. but it's better than trying to go to "normal" social spots. Being alone while in a crowd of people at a bar or concert sucks.
that's why you train your kids to pick up their toys after they are finished playing with them and if they can't get that through their skull, the toys are thrown away.

New Orleans wouldn't have been any different because the major problems were at the state and local level.
so if two Asian countries want to declare war on each other, do they have to do all the fighting at sea?

Why even bother running wget at all and not the LWP modules?

have the script rotate each image a different amount (ex $angle = (15 * $count) % 360; )
or you could buy the Nintendo USB adapter which supposedly only talks to DS's
And people would be claiming that he threw the kittens in the building in the first place and the whole event was a staged for a photo-op.

lots of places also have "early voting" locations a few days in advance of the actual election so more people have the chance to make it.

or XBox Portable and then have everyone refer to it as XBP
I wonder how much they spent to come up with that dorky name.
and when you listen to your music and pay for things wirelessly with your cell phone, they just have to take that.

at least that's what I've observed

no, you'll have a messy apartment with books, computer parts, and clothes strewn everywhere, but nothing but cobwebs on the walls.
