Holy shit. I almost had a fucking heart-attack. I had to check the date, because this is exactly what I expect to see on April 1st. Oh this is wonderful.
Google chaches pages. Why not have the staff of slashdot (or the person submitting) try a quick google search and if the page is cached, also provide a link to the google chached page?
Because that would mean putting a little extra effort into doing posts, and that's un-Slashdottian.
It's not an issue that people aren't working on the kernel enough, it's that there are too many mad scientists, and not enough henchmen.
Actually, this is almost exactly what I was trying to say.:)

This is not backwards logic. I am not suggesting you do it. I am suggesting you stop whining about there being noone else to do it when you can't be bothered either. I also have no genitals, but seek a deep meaningful relationship with household appliances.
Great idea, but I don't work on the kernel actively myself, yet others find the time to do it. It's not "whining" to ask why there's so many who are willing to work on the big things, but can't be bothered to fix the little things.
Besides, you operate under the assumption that I haven't contributed anything to the kernel, which would be wrong.
Sounds like something from a big business to me...

Out of all the people involved with this on the planet, not one person could be assigned the task of doing this sort of sweeping up? Lots of busy folk out there, certainly, but those people were found to do the major stuff in the first place... And please, save the "well why don't you do it, smarty man?" responses for someone that sort of backwards logic will work on, thanks, I'm just making an observation, not an accusation.
I hadn't heard of "Valles Marineris" before, so the first thing that entered my mind was that it was the name of some supermodel or something, and they made her into some posable high-res 3D toy, and took some screenshots. Like playing with Poser.;)
I remember a while ago, back in June, Art Bell had a show on this when it was breaking news. It was really difficult to find anything in the mainstream news about it at the time:
6/13/01 - Wed/Thu
Guest: Linda M. Howe
Topic: The Sunken City off Cuba
I guess none of the Slashdot fruitcakes thought it important that Kamen is gonna reveal what Ginger/IT is on Good Morning America this coming week, possibly Monday. Why the hell nobody seems to be picking up this story is beyond me. I submitted it, but as typical, no response...
Most of these guys seem to have no regard for the people they link to. It's like giving a 13 year old a loaded gun -- they just fuck around, have a good time, and don't give a shit about who it's pointed at. Instead they just giggle and go "Oops! That rascally Slashdot Effect! Hehe we really brought that guys server to it's knees!"
I find it barely above the level of script kiddie responsibility.
If they honestly gave a shit, they'd never have linked where they did...
Can you imagine if you had to pay the car manufacturer the full price of the car every time someone wanted someone new to drive your car? $15k for the inital perchase for yourself...15k for your son, another 15k for the daughter, 15k more for your husband, etc.
This is why I think multi-user licenses are so rediculous: we made the whole concept up. Software doesn't work like this naturally...unlike the car analogy I provide, software CAN be used by multiple people at the same time. It's the nature of the beast. We impose this artificial, greedy, (and pointless -- cracked before it came out, WinXP was) shit to suck cash out of peoples wallets excessively and pretend they have some sort of control over the disc and the software on it once it's bought...
Mind you, I'm not saying MS shouldn't be compensated for their product: I'm just saying that it's all a fantasy. A load of made-up nonsense that they hope people will follow. (And, of course, lots of people do. Baa.)
Yeah, it's not like Gates is one of the richest men on earth or anything.
He's one of the stereotypical Rich Business Men. And since this is a computer-centric site, it's only natural that ol' Bill ("I call him 'Money' for short") Gates would be the target of bignum wealth humor.

Look out, Bill!
Tux in the trees! TUX IN THE TREES!!
Just don't make it 3D.
Sir, can you read me the ID again?
Wewt. :)
Yes, those really did need to be in .mov format. Honest.
I just setup an account this evening, actually, and within minutes of it's existance it recieved it's first spam. Lousy bastards.
This is really old news. I remember seeing this back in June of last year. But since we're bringing it up again, here's a nice article.

"Hope you enjoyed the ride!" KABOOM!
Bless you, sir. *sniffle*

Anyone remember the Tandy 1000 that had MS-DOS and Deskmate in ROM? :)
Way to go. Knowingly posting a link to a site that was already slow in the first place. Do you hate Woz, or something?

Fear it, even if it's probably way too late at this point.
