Both numbers could be right. Who is to say God didn't implement a "beta" period 650 million years ago when prehistoric animals and neanderthal man roamed the earth - before Adam and Eve were created. I do know that God would never break a law of the universe to enact change. Everything has a scientific basis (which is why we have science to begin with, to explain how God did it).

It's the Slashvertisments that has really lowered my opinion of Slashdot, you know, garbage like the XBox watercooling device as shown on Hexus gaming and the **Beatles_Beatles** nonsense. There's already enough ads on the site quite frankly. If you're trying to wring even more revenue out of the site, consider making a advertising section that readers can filter out (or maybe leave that option only open to subscribers) but don't try and sneak that crap by us. It's depressing when my favorite website tries to pull a fast one on it's readers.

Grub and Lilo need to supply an remove feature at the initial bootload prompt or os selection splash screen so to easily remove the bootloader from the mbr when it's no longer needed, because unless you have a windows rescue disk (which I don't have, I don't even have a working floppy drive), and type "fdisk /mbr", you're permantly stuck with Linux.

This happened when I removed Ubuntu from my daughters computer and tried to install a Windows clone called ReactOS. To rid Grub from the mbr, I've tried reinstalling Linux and moving the bootloader to the front of the partition, I've tried using Partition magic and deleting the partitions and formating the drive, I've tried using Redhat's fdisk and I've tried standing on my head spitting wooden nickles, and nothing worked at removing grub. Frustrating thing is other operating systems won't remove it when they're installed on the drive either. I'm about ready to bust out a big magnet and really erase the drive.

Linux needs to makes it as easy to remove these bootloaders as it is to install them.

Of course this is if you really don't deserve to get stuck with an outrageous bill (as in the case of being billed $12,000 for stolen phone service). And this is only really an option if you're an apartment dweller or don't mind selling the house. If you're only trying to avoid paying an overdue bill, it's evasive and blatantly dishonest

  24. My take on it on Mac OS X x86 Put To The Test · · Score: 1

Why wouldn't Apple make OSX work for generic x86 hardware? They want to sell operating systems, right? They see how much money MS is making with Windows, and they want a piece of the action.

Even if Dell was to sell cheap Apple clones in x86 architecture, there's still a market for Apple to sell high end "genuine Mac" products. Best of all, Dell would be pushing Mac OSX licences, so even if it's not Apple hardware, it's still Apple software going out the door.

Maybe I'm not seeing the whole picture, but for the x86 version of Mac OSX to work only with Apple authorised hardware seems too confining for an operating system superior to Windows and capable of eating Microsoft's lunch.
