  1. Moody Bosses on Meetings are Bad For You · · Score: 1

Perhaps we should be more understanding with our moody bosses?"

Nah... they will just find oher reasons to be Point-Haired Bastards that can't greet you with a "good morning" before they start their drive-by management for the day.

  2. How will I wear my 3D Glasses with this? on 'EyeBud' for the iPod Video · · Score: 1

But in all seriousness, what will this do to one's vision if you watch an hour or two of this every day, say in your right eye. Will your eyes get screwed up because of so much time with each one viewing different depths?

Wrong continent, but I suppose it could have migrated. The Wiki picture is only one of many... others in the Google Image search look much like the recent pictures of the "new" animal.

They are probably very affordable on eBay now that they are discontinued. It has WiFi Web browsing, email, and a nice screen. Plus it has a built-in keyboard and about as much user-accessble memory as the Nokia. Plus it has synchronization out of the box and it doesn't appear that the Nokia does.

I'm all for cool gadgets, but functionality-wise you could get this all a couple of years ago with the Tungsten C.

  6. As an author of OSS stuff that is Windows-only, on No Respect for Windows Open Source · · Score: 1

I do it for the fun or programming, for the spirit of OSS, and for my own enjoyment. Mod me down but I seriously don't give the slightest crap about what any "zealot" has to say about my work. It's as free for them NOT to use as it is for my existing and future users to use it and spread it.

  7. Or better yet on Google Hiring Programmers to Work on OpenOffice · · Score: 4, Interesting

maybe they can dedicate some Google programming talent to getting an Outlook-killing, cross-platform PIM introduced into the suite. 2.0 introduced a database component, and now it's time to even out the offering. I like Evolution but would like to see a cross-platform PIM in the suite as an alternative.

  8. It's more interesting looking BACK at Windows on Why Do People Switch To Linux? · · Score: 1

I've made the switch, but just the other day had a friend complain because he changed out his blown MB on his XP box and was having problems with the XP license validation "feature" that checks for hardware changes. It all seemed so foreign... I said "you've gotta be shitting me... you paid for it and STILL can't run it?"

  9. Excusee-my-SuSE on A Closer Look at SUSE 10 · · Score: 5, Interesting

SuSE 9.3 was the distro that finally got me seriously considering cutting the Windows cord, and 10 handed me the scissors. It's such a great, complete distro that's easy to install and maintain, easy to customize. It's the most polished distro I have used. Between SuSE 10 and Ubuntu the reasons for sticking with Windows and its licensing/upgrading hell are slim. Yeah I'll still need Windows for some things (mostly PHB stuff) but SuSE is my new default boot.

Wait... now come on, who ELSE are they targetting? Gotta be MS Outlook users.

I'd say why waste effort then. Move that effort into the Evolution port to win32 (if it exists, I think it does) and concentrate on how to get a pst file into Evolution easily. That's how you'll get Outlook users to move.

  15. These surveys tend to be limiting on How Much Money do Programmers Really Make? · · Score: 1

In my case I develop data-driven Web sites, develop client/server apps, do database modelling and administration, some network/server admin, and some graphic design. Plus the here-and-there stuff like "here's a 10-year-old encrypted Word file we need to access in PDF format" hack jobs. Am I some percentage of everything? Or do I add them all together? I know I am well compensated, so I guess it's programming plus some other stuff to come up with my true worth.

I guess what I'm trying to say is yeah there are some robocoders that only code all day, but many of us are jacks-of-some-trades that don't exactly fit the mold of one survey or IT area.
