Cell phones, and even cell phone towers, have insignificant RF radiation compared to broadcasting towers. It is not uncommon to have more than a Megawatt ERP aggregate radiation from a broadcasting tower carrying several FM and TV stations. The high gain antennas are aimed with a down-tilt from the horizon, and sometimes these are located in cities, mountain top beauty spots, or alongside major roads. If exposure to VHF and UHF radiation is dangerous, we should start looking there. I doubt that it is so dangerous. The only effect that can be measured is a slight warming of the skin. The Sun is a huge RF transmitter that warms the skin a lot more. Oh wait! The sun causes deadly myeloma skin cancers, so maybe that is not such a good example.

The real (Elephant in the room) lesson from 911 is that in terrorist airliner hijacks passengers desperately need to have some kind of a weapon. Presumably the TSA rationale is to disarm all passengers in order to disarm the terrorists. So then it is terrorists versus the passengers with fists. I would still put my $20 on the terrorists because they are tough ruthless fanatical bastards who train for it.. They should simply put pepper sprays and stun guns in some seat backs where the passengers can get at them. It would be impossible to take over a plane with weapons like that, but relatively easy for an untrained person to overcome a terrorist. If there was a real possibility that some passengers might be armed in that way, the terrorists would have to reassess their risk management strategy, and would probably choose a softer target.

The Elephant in the TSA room is that on 911 many passengers desperately needed a weapon of some kind, and the day might have ended a little better if a few had them. The TSA nonsense really only ensures that 911 could happen again. OK: without the TSA theater, terrorists would have had better weapons, but this would be cancelled out to a large degree by passengers with weapons. Al Qaeda must base its risk assessment on the fact that the TSA has disarmed the passengers. Without that they would probably choose another method.
