New technology always comes with a premium price tag. But the more widespread it is, the cheaper it will become in the long run. (although Windows is still $$$) I think its good though to move onto newer standards.
My take on the issue is that flags are worthless for preventing pirates from putting TV shows online. To qoute a BMG rep. mentioned in a previous slashdot story "All copy-protections can be hacked.." True, that was in reference to music, but it can be applied to video as well. What the flags will do is make it more difficult for "Joe Blow" to watch his recorded shows wherever he wants. It will deter your average family from *Gasp* being pirates, but it won't seriously hamper the real pirates who already share shows online...it will just eat up a few more computer cycles.
If you go to the TIMES table of contents thats posted on the "Memory Hole" page, you will see why the article is not online. Since it deals with a popular subject, TIMES moved it to their paid content... so the free version is no longer available. Go HERE and read the top line. In short, I doubt its a conspiracy, TIMES is just being greedy and wants more money. Which as a company is its right.
I'm sorry if this is a little off-topic, but instead of having all these headline posts that are just re-prints of the Guardian... why not have a column/section instead... like we have for apache, or EFF...?? just my 2 cents
Im sure any Lego-bot could do the box dance Waltz... but can you make a robot that can do the Lindy Hop drops and arials? at least a robot could hold my weight up... but i wouldnt want to try and throw it around:-)
Whats wrong with that? It might have prevented the dispute in court over driver's license photos and muslim women wearing veils...with a fingerprint, you dont need picture ID, and its more reliable.
As my subject line says...I do, but I dont see how anyone other than large corporations can go through the process to actually get a judgement. I mean, I get mostly spam these days, even on an account I made, but never used a single time! Anyway, thats my rant for the day.
To whoever rated the "I predict" post offtopic, its not... you should read the article about MS getting Doom3-- then read this about MS getting a music company... if you still don't get it, think about it for a second more.
hm, it seems the RIAA won't stop until they have angered everyone... although, I must say I would enjoy watching a fight between the RIAA and Microsoft!
Anyone captured any cool pictures from satellites yet, perhaps using a setup like the one described
here
I'm considering going to Washington DC to photograph protests, etc. but I'm not sure how safe it would be, since Washington is probably the main target for retaliation.
I'm glad they include Robotech. That in my opinion is one of the best early mech shows. I actually never saw the cartoon when I was younger, but I read all the books based on them. or maybe the cartoons were based on the books.. anyway, they got me interested in Mechwarrior too:-)
heh, i can clap with one hand. lock your wrist back, while keeping your fingers loose. shake vigorously. your fingers should slap your palm, therefore your clapping with one hand.
I have been using computers since the late 80's. In fact, in the beginning we used AppleIIs, for artwork etc... now that im 17 years older, I have switched to Photoshop on a WinXP platform.

Its strange how all of a sudden there are many reports of strong flares... Just as the Space Weather forecasting program comes up for budget renewal.
I have a really old DEC Rainbow... if I can find it :-).

See, Microsoft is trying to create a monopoly on spam for itself. No one can spam but them if it works out :-)
