    Logitech makes bluetooth headphones with an iPod-specific connector - they get a decent amount of time, they've never run out on me yet. They were like $50 AR when I got them, no idea what the cost is now.

    Quite frankly, it's this attitude that is also a major turnoff to Linux for many people.

    I'm sure he could tell you what he doesn't like about aMSN. Would your suggestion be he learn to program and fix the problems himself?

    What software needs MIDI? The software he wants to use. That's all that matters to the average user - does the software I want to use work. Not the software you think is a better alternative, the software I want to use.

    Who gives a shit what you thought as a teenager, this guy wants sounds in webpages.

    Who needs Flash? People who want to see Flash movies.

    God, it's elitist assholes like you who that do a great job of turning people off to Linux. If what I want or need isn't there, you can give me all the answers in the world about why your method is better or why I don't really need them, I'm still going to go with the product that addresses what I want rather than the one that has the smug asshole telling me I'm wrong.

    We run all our radio station "on air" computers on 98. Running only our on-air and automation software it can run for months w/o a reboot, and it isn't vulnerable to any crap from teh internets.

    My dad tried to connect to the Internet by plugging in the phone line into the ethernet socket. He's much more savvy now.


    I have a friend who did that. Her sister came home from college and they wanted to use her college-use Pentium III 500mhz to replace their aging 233mhz Pentium. She called me saying they couldn't get AOL to dial up despite plugging it in. When I took a look at the machine the first thing I said was "Lauren, did you not notice that the plug was very lose in the hole you put it in?"

    microsoft is saying that i can't do what i want, i.e. get it to run fast w/o background crap, with a product i bought from them, which last i checked, is illegal, since it isn't in any license.


    Where does the law say you're entitled to run Windows fast without any background crap? Just because it isn't in the license doesn't mean it's illegal - there's lots of things you can and cannot do that are not explicitly covered by the license.

    Could I see the law books you last checked?

    I had an iPod and returned it after I realized the DRM on that thing prevents you from doing almost anything you would normally want to do with an mp3 player

    What might that be? I can put songs on it, I can use a 3rd party program to take songs off it, I can play MP3s, WAVs, AACs, Apple Lossless, and AIFF. I can use iTunes to convert WMA as well.

    The only DRM is on tracks bought from the iTMS.

    Had they been trapped in the glass elevantor at the top of the lift (street level) during a 90 degree day in NYC, they could have fried.


    This is just a wild guess, but I'm gonna say the elevator and the rest of the store have AC.

    No, they just had no users so there was nothing to exploit. That's why Be is no more.

    I believe what the parent refers to are things like.. Where's the *new* iMac - that's a different design to the iMac G5, Where's the new PowerMac (MacPro?), Where the new designed hardware? I think the point Apple is trying to make with the iMac G5 and Intel iMac/PowerBook and MacBook Pro looking similar is that it's still the same Macintosh and still runs the same software. They're trying to keep some familiarity for those worried about this Intel transition.

    It's not just beautiful, it's solid and durable.

    My PowerBook that is just shy of 2 years old that just went in to have the DC connector replaced, with scratches galore and chipping paint disagrees with your "solid and durable" statement. it's beautiful until you use it.

    same for my iPod, which has a flukey hard drive now from running with it for a period of about 2 weeks (in an arm band).

    I love my Apple products, but they aren't durable worth a damn

    'll be forced to buy a Tablet PC of some sort (maybe an "Origami" device) and hack OS X to work on it instead. Luckily, because of the work other people have already put in to it, the only major remaining hurdle is getting Inkwell to work with the Tablet PC digitizer.

    So basically... until someone gets Inkwell working you've negated the very feature you want to buy a tablet PC for?

    With the delays and problems with their future OS, one can imagine Microsoft quitely purchasing Apple's OS line, or even just licensing it, rewiring the GUI to look like Windows

    I'm going to have to echo the "why do you need software?" calls.

    Fiction vs Nonfiction
    Break fiction down into scifi, fantasy, historical, or whatever else applies
    Break nonficiton into computers, biography, history, math, science, etc
    Then alphabetize categories by author, and label your shelves.
    Use some cardboard to make book-sized dividers and write A, B, C, D, etc on them
