If I open the fridge will it remind me that the premixed salad I intended to eat has been sitting there for two weeks and it will go bad today if I don't eat it.
Can I then ask my fridge what shelf I put the salad on because I don't remember- and it will tell me.
Will my front door greet me and ask how my day was- and be compassionate to me when I say it sucked. Could I ask my front door if it has seen anything suspicious- and change the welcome message for salesmen to "go away"?
Will my dog bark to me when I come home- and come running when I say "walkies"?
maximum life span has really not changed at all and stays at about 120 years. This true both for humans and laboratory rats,
Wonder if I'm the only one who misread that at first and thought you were saying Lab rats had a maximum lifespan of 120 years!
Anyhow- back on topic. Whereas what you say may be true (as in 120 max life staying still) - this needn't always be the case.
Up till recently- lifespan has had an upper limit because we are curing diseases better and living healthier. The body still ages.
A lot of scientists now are looking at drugs that prevent or reverse aging. A childs body doesn't "wear down".
Until the last decade "avoiding aging" was a science fiction topic more than true science- but there have been dozens of big discoveries the last decade or so that point to believing that aging can be slowed or stopped...maybe even reversed.
I don't expect to live to 150- or have my aging reversed in my lifetime (I'm a 30 something) - but I expect my grandkids will live well beyond 100.
So- from what I understand- they don't see the source of the lava to cause the rilles so they think water created them.
Maybe- or maybe all that remains is where the rilles were deepest- and the shallower parts have been filled in by dust.
Or... if it's formed from subterranean lava tunnels that collapsed as postulated... maybe the rest of the tunnel- the part that connects it to the volcano hasn't collapsed.
I'm not going to stop production of my brilliant invention idea for the few people who accidentally have their limbs cut off.
I did a google for "what percentage of the population have their arm accidentally chopped off?" but didn't get an accurate answer.
I suspect most arm removals are intentional- done by doctors as amputations. The actual number of complete accidental arm-removals is probably a fairly insignificant number.
If you arm gets accidentally removed you've worse things to think about then a false-positive death announcement.
In fact- chances are, if you're not already in the hospital- you will lose a lot of blood and die anyway.
Well, why not an "I just died" app. Have a blue-tooth wristband that measures your heartrate- if your heart stops beating it sends an e-mail out to your loved ones.
Siri LEARNS your voice- learns to adapt to your voice- that means Apple is storing the metrics of your voice.
You think Facial recognition software is bad- soon there will be vocal recognition software.
So if you use Facebook on Apple- not only can your photo be tagged so facial recognition can pick you up- your voice will be tagged too- so you can be identified through voice recognition.
Even with your face covered in a crowd- if you say something you will be identifiable.
Military or economic? I don't think we're giving them aide- so can't hold that back. They're not a major trading partner to us.
Europe and China are much more economically linked with Russia than us. Europe needs Russia for oil more than Russia needs them- and China isn't going to do anything.
Militarily- we're stretched already and a conflict would be stupid and unpopular. They have targets closer to them than we have. It would cost less for them to hurt us than vice-versa; even if any extended conflict would go our way.
The only way we could hurt Russia is by convincing EU to break economic ties- and to do that we'd need to lubircate the deal with a lot of oil.
In short- we can't touch Russia without a large cost to ourselves. Russia knows this too.
In some small manufacturing plants you may find that is the norm.
Where software IS the business that will never fly.
I worked one place where there wasn't even a seperate test database. Test tables had "_test" applied to them.
My last week there I accidentally deleted a whole bunch of production data that locked everyone in the office out of some important functionality- took hours to get things back running.
Biggest mistake I ever made... LOL... although it makes me chuckle thinking back.
YES- it was an accident. YES- I felt like a total doofus (although I kept telling them whilst there test needs to be seperated). YES- I'm sure some people probably thought I did it on purpose.
Yet another thing we are not first to implement! I demand the government rectify this immediately before places like France and Canada have government spyware before us.
Yeah... I know- never got my computer to be a gaming computer- the types of games I always played were never graphics intensive.
It is time to upgrade something- I was hoping to wait another year or two before upgrading the computer. I see older (but still pretty decent for my needs, 1GB graphics cards from companies like MSI and ASUS) for $15 after rebate on places like new egg and tiger all the time- waiting for them to hit that price WITHOUT the rebates because I know how bad most of those manufacturers are at not giving you your rebate.
Intel. I never play anything too graphic intensive- but it is sad when the graphics card can't even handle things like the new Civ, Football Manager (soccer).
Things which used to have a low graphics requirement.:(
I may be forced to upgrade in the next 5 to 10 years.:(
The objects could have been an alien invasion force- but they passed us by when they realised we hadn't even invented the iPhone yet.
How long until this technology spreads?

There will be a major demographic shift.
75% of the US's population will reside in Georgia.
(Florida will be under water because of sea-level rising)

When the average age is 150 the average speed limit will be 15mph.
The weather channel will become a 3D channel on cable and out perform the major networks.
Dick Clark will be hosting New Year shows still.
Starbucks will be sold to a bingo-chain.
No one will ever be able to walk on anyone elses lawn ever again.
Hmmm so now I can take photos WITH my balls.

I think you missed the joke! :)
The US is spying on us (wiretapping, etc)- they don't want China doing it too- they don't want competition spying on us.
The government doesn't like to have competition in bugging the populace.
Cooool. I might sign up for that... I'm sure plenty of times I will forget and send fake death messages.... but I bet that's half the fun.
Imagine using this for real though if the spam filter stopped the e-mail confirmations reaching you.
No- it only sends the signal on a positive message not a negative.
If the battery dies- it does not send the "throw" message send the message.
If the connection is broken around the wrist it does not send a message.
Sure- the device could malfunction- but then, everyone will be so happy to see you not dead- they will remember how valuable you are to them.
Well, why not an "I just died" app. Have a blue-tooth wristband that measures your heartrate- if your heart stops beating it sends an e-mail out to your loved ones.

Could be embarrassing if you accidentally run the app.
/ did not rtfa incase it says something about that.
Facebook knows everything there is to know about you.
It even knows where you put the keys you lost.
They won't tell you where your keys are- but they sure do know.
It is not when technology correctly tags you that is scary.

Just don't install facebook or the google toolbar on this robot OK?
You think Facebook knows too much about your life now!

Have you any humorous stories where people mistook your rocket for something else?
A UFO, government spyplane, terrorist weapon, etc?
Have you ever considered building something mischievious deliberately intended to make people think of one of the above?

I think it is evidence that a historical race known as the Silurian that had culture and art really did exist in that time. Ask the doctor.
