I'm talking about protecting citizen rights, protecting their economy, protecting their well being. There are certain economies of scale a country of Catalonia won't have on their side. It will be a lot more expensive to be independent. That extra money they spend in taxes to Spain will quickly be gobbled up by their new extra expenses.

Lack of nutrients is not the same as a lack of calories. Apple juice is basically sugar water with tannins. You might as well save money and just buy soda instead.

This is absolutely not true. Apple Juice is much less healthy than eating the fruit. For one thing, apples are loaded with fiber. For another thing, calories consumed via liquids ARE worse for you than via solids- the sugars get fast tracked into your bloodstream. Body can metabolize sugars in liquids much quicker than in foods.

Their api is trying to be too universal and monolithic.

Gay is neither good or bad. Gay is just a label. Google should be able to recognize that 'gay' means one thing when a bigot uses it, but it should also recognize that 'gay' means something else when others use it.

In other words, the meaning of words should be heavily weighed on the training data of the individual listening/reading and on the training data of the individual speaking/writing.

Indeed; although, that depth of understanding is probably beyond their means at the moment. What this shows is not a bias at Google, but a bias within the online community. I'm sure we all remember the 90's when it was all too common for some people to casually say "that's so gay" to mean something is bad. Unfortunately, Google has shown that that insensitive and anachronistic term/usage is still alive and well on the internet. People feel free to be bigger jerks online when people they know can't see them.

I'm surprised that there are folks that would pay for another channel for what, a single show?

They really don't have to make much money from AllAccess to pay for Discovery. From what I understand, they made a profit on Discovery just by selling the rights to Netflix to show overseas. They could get 20 people sign up for their crappy streaming site and still the show has already made a profit.

Of course they're going to sign the show for a second season. The fact that they haven't released numbers probably means that All Access didn't do nearly as well as they had hoped.
