My former employer decided to start spamming even after meetings where I explained the dangers of spam, how it's unethical , etc, etc. They really wanted to do it, because they decided to listen to one person who had dollar signs in his eyes.
Long story short, I quit the job, but I had to deal with spam for about a month while I was looking for a different employer. Somehow it was my fault that we were blacklisted by most of the major ISPs and mail services. The IT director was too shortsighted to farm out the spamming to someone else.
Everything worked out great in the end, because I'm at a place now that would never spam and I'm working with bright people on some very cool projects.
So yeah, my advice is quit and tell him why you're quitting if he won't listen to your advice.
How specifically is the Mac an annoyance to programmers? I'm a developer and I love my mac.
What languages does the Mac not support that Linux does? C? C++? Python? Ruby? Perl? All supported
Text editors? Vi, Emacs, Nano? All supported. Sadly AFAIK there is no kate or gedit for the Mac. Not a big deal since I use Textmate, which is far superior to both IMHO.

Well the problems with this are:
1. - It's illegal. People are getting busted (mainly dealers at this point) 2. - You need a ROM102 smart card which are going for hundreds of dollars on ebay, also card reader and programmer. 3. - When you buy said smartcard and programmer, youre out hundreds of dollars and
if the providers do something to lock out the cards or swap them out (which WILL happen), you're out all that money.
I'd suggest waiting or a cardless fix (if one ever does come out) before you spend all your money on the carding equipment. Right now it's impossible to decrypt DN or BEV without the Math CoProcessor on the Narga2 smartcard.
If you want a high quality DDR danceing surface that lasts and you don't want to spend lots of dough, do this:
Get a cheap "soft" dance pad - the kind without the foam, but not madcatz - from gamestop or EB. ($20) Cut a piece of plywood (or particleboard) just a little bigger than the dance pad ($10) Put down carpet tape on the plywood in a grid pattern ($5) stick the dance pad down to the carpet tape Get a sheet of clear vinyl from the fabric store just bigger than the pad, but a little smaller than the plywood ($3) Tape the vinyl down to the plywood with a roll of black duck tape ($5)
For ~$45 you have a nice dancing surface that will last you at least a year playing heavy mode (I do 9 foot songs on mine) that does not slip or move across the floor.
According to him, there are no ATA devices or any other hardware-based Voip phones that support ZRTP (the zfone encryption protocol). I doubt that Vonage or any other large VoIP service provider will ever offer a phone with ZRTP support due to pressure from the US government.
According to my understanding, Zfone will intercept any SIP call made from your PC and encrypt it on the fly. This means that you should be able to use any software based SIP phone with Zfone.
I've tried AntiVir and AVG. They are both excellent in terms of protection from viruses, but I find that AVG is quicker to update and the interface looks more modern. Antivir's interface looks like something out of the Windows 3.1 era.
Antivir also requires you to re-run their setup program each time you have to update the engine, which in my experience could be at least once a month. This is cumbersome and can be confusing to computer illiterate users. Since I've switched to AVG I haven't run into these problems and in fact I convinced my mother to ditch Norton AV for AVG. So far she's really happy with it.
This must be Skype's response to AOL's announcement that they will be integrating voip into AIM. Too bad that Skype doesn't give out a free incoming phone number like AOL will.
In creating adsense, google opened the floodgates for spammers who do not want to create good content. In fact, there are even people who copy tons of content from wikipedia and throw up adsense on the top and sides of the pages.
There are people who are literally making $10,000 or more per month just putting up junk content sites that are auto generated for the purpose of creating adsense revenue.
Don't get me wrong, I think adsense is a good thing, but Google's allowance of spam sites is giving adsense a bad name.
Does anyone else find it ironic that this law firm exploits our natural instinct to protect children to try to make a money grab from Google? So who's exploiting who here? It seems like google does all it can to try to remove and filter out any type of child porn here, so how can they be liable?
I see people bashing it either because it's not free for long distance or just because it's AOL. Let's wait until we can evaluate the service before bashing it. I don't expect too much out of it, but I'm holding off my wrath until I try it at least.
Did they really expect the spammers to just sit there and not retaliate? It's been proven time and time again that spammers will go to any length to spam without regard to the law.
Interesting that you call someone out for spamming their own software while you're trying to get others to sign up to a pyramid scheme to get yourself a free PSP. At least Tom actually creates something he's proud of. He's been a fixture in the postgresql and ruby communities for quite some time now.
I've used an All In Wonder 8500DV to record TV onto my computer, but my biggest roadblock has been poor ATI drivers for Windows that disabled Hibernation, crashes XP, and fails to work well in Linux even as a video card never mind as a TV system.
I wouldn't recommend ATI on linux at all at this point. The drivers are barely even useable, let alone give good performance.
My bit of advice, if you're buying a video card for a linux PVR, stay far, far away from ATI. You'll thank me for saving you from countless hours of trying to get a good picture in vain.
The 1Ghz processor in the mini ITX board would not be able to handle one large aspect of what makes mythtv better than Tivo - Games.
The choice of the Epia mainboard was a good choice. These make really nice myth frontends because they have VLD XvMC via the open source unichrome video drivers. This means that the box should easily handle HD with the proper HD card, even with only 1Ghz processor power on the mainboard.
Come on. "Cool Tech Zone"? Are we really that hard up for news that we have to go dipping into the bottom of the garbage pail of tech websites to find a troll to post on the front of slashdot. All I can say is at least it's not a blog.
If you're using the vidcard for a PVR, do *not* buy ATI. I made the mistake of doing just that and so far I've had to deal with bugs upon bugs with the fglrx driver that the ATI devs just seem to ignore, all the while adding new features like suspend and even listing "rss notification of driver updates" as a feature.
Tv out is broken. The tv positioning control hasn't worked for close to a year now. 2d accel performance lags far behind the open source "radeon" driver. I'd love to switch to the radeon driver but the lack of Tv out support is what prevents me from doing it. There is no hardware Motion Control (XvMC). 3D is not supported with Tv-out on the card so no opengl vsync with mythtv.
The only thing preventing me from buying an nvidia card is the lack of PCI space and this being a mini itx case, having no extra AGP slot.
Conclusion: If you're building a PVR, stick to nvidia.
Lightweight, eh? Took well over 2 hours to compile on gentoo.. and after that it didn't even work (segfaults, etc). heh.. It's a piece of shit. Don't use it.
Like the other person said, learn to use your compiler. Also consider compiling with -O2 instead of -O3. -O3 can produce broken code. Don't likle how long it takes to compile? Then don't use gentoo or buy a snappier machine. Simple as that.
Judging by how this article was written you haven't used rails at all, or maybe used it for something extremely trivial. The "automatic code generation" (scaffolding) is only there to help you get started on a project. You can completely bypass it if you want.
I'd be willing to bet that if you used rails for an hour or two, you wouldn't have written this article. In fact, the entire article depends on your assumption that the code *has* to be generated automatically.
Before you paint *all* open source software with such a broad brush, realize that the fink repositories are open source and that OS X userland programs are based on open source. In fact this message you're reading has been served up on an open source webserver and has probably passed through several routers running open source software.

I think you missed the sarcasm in the story.

You can only be a bully for so long before someone fights back or someone bigger than you kicks your ass.

Maybe what we need is another "hallmark holiday": Kick a money-grubbing lawyer in the balls day.

What about filtering on partial MAC address? Isn't the first part of the MAC address for a vendor's product generally the same?
Interesting that you call someone out for spamming their own software while you're trying to get others to sign up to a pyramid scheme to get yourself a free PSP. NEWSFLASH:
Nobody cares. Now go back to watching TV on your DRM crippled system that crashes twice per week.
