Oh, and./ your dictionary needs to be updated.
It needs to transform itself. I only go to a cinema to watch blockbusters (yeah I'm getting old) and 3D stuff. Otherwise I am happy waiting for a decent DVD rip to download. Why download it if it's on DVD? Because of the stupid ass release zones crap. By the time it's released in my zone I I have watched it already. Why go buy it? Why they are still adhering to that antiquated model I don't know. Just so you know, I would go buy it instead of downloading it. I have a nice collection of my favourite movies. If they released a movie say about 1 month after release worldwide they would make a ton of money. If you haven't gone to watch a movie after it's been on circuit for 1 month then your aren't going to watch it on the big screen.
Video stores are dying. The next death will be the cinema's. Sure you will have some due to the more social aspect of meeting up with friends to watch a movie, but with big ass 3D tv screens and surround sound systems why not watch at home? (yeah I'm getting old).
Oh please, blocking google etc. is like stopping people from buying a map. You know where you want to go but don't know how to get there. All it will take is a bit of digging around forums/irc and you will find the links you want (ie. stopping at a garage). Blocking DNS, no problem, use IP's. IP is banned by your ISP No problem, bounce off a rented server/proxy in Idontgiveafuckistan.
Stop passing stupid fucking laws that are impossible to enforce.
I think it's beyond time when any asshole politician proposing these dumb laws should be required to have a CS degree.
What about TOR, NNTP, IRC, Torrents etc.? These are all decentralized. How are you going to stop an IRC channel which requires a password that is rotated and only given to trusted members?
I rent a linux instance in the states so if I need/want something regional I can use it. It costs me $30 a YEAR.
The current generation of kids are being brought up in environments where computer's are taken for granted and knowledge that I had to study long hours for is absorbed while trying to set up a minecraft server.
You are not going to stop it, change your fcking business model. I would be willing to pay for a decent COPY of the next episode of BLAH! Yes, COPY, if I bought it once why should I pay again to watch it again! Or unlimited access in my "Library" or whatever. I don't want to have to pay twice to watch the same content, because then I will pirate your ass.
I disagree, if you are using a proxy then you are circumventing the rules. They are not. Their rules are to only allow connections within a certain IP range, which they are doing. If you proxy in then it's you who is breaking the rules. I work for a betting company, we log EVERYTHING and we don't have the time or manpower to sift through the logs looking for proxies etc. The only time we use the logs is when we are troubleshooting a problem or investigating something specific. Sure we could write something to trigger a warning, but in our specific case it would be pointless. A lot of our traffic is from mobile devices and that is NATted (sp?) to the point that it would be going off all the time.
One way to feed everyone is to have a big ass world war, or a plague like in the bible. Cut down the population by 75% and the problem will solve itself.
I disagree. At the end of the day it's about resolving the greatest questions in physics. It may not have any immediate impact on our lives as such, but you can bet our children will reap the rewards of our better understanding of how the universe fits together. It usually takes many years for cutting edge discoveries to filter down into common use / production. I mean we read about bucky balls and nano tubes and how awesome they are every day, still haven't seen one on the shelf.
It's shit like this that will get us out into the universe, not building a better fucking mousetrap.
All we need to do is to tell the Japanese that we have found a planet populated by a race of teenage school girls and another race of monsters with tentacles and we will have FTL in no time.
I think for this it's more about hacking the system and sticking it to the 'man' than about $3.80.
I'm fortunate enough to be working for a company that on the odd occasion actually asks me to hack/reverse engineer things and nothing beats finding that chink in the armor.
Oh please! Come to South Africa and experience third world bandwidth! Just because you are lagging behind other first world countries does not mean you are lagging behind third world countries.
Tell me about it.
Did some contract work for a major food retailer a couple years ago, none of their passwords were hashed or even encrypted. Plain text, in the db. Right next to it was their password hint. It's bloody frightening how many people put their password as their hint.
They were very popular in South Africa a couple years ago. BIS was the main selling point, at the time internet costs were astronomical so being able to send as many messages as you wanted and being able to surf as much as you wanted was hugely attractive. Almost everyone had one, then costs came down, Whatsup and other messaging services started and suddenly people realised they can still have all the goodness without the crap hardware.
I mean seriously, why the fuck does the phone take 3 minutes to boot up?
Why do I have to reboot when I uninstall an app?
Why do I have to pull the goddamn battery out of the fucking phone?
Why is there so much undiluted shit in the "app" market? Seriously, I need a torch, so I thought, "hey download an app and use the flash, worked 100% on my android phone". Yeah right! EVERY SINGLE APP WANTED TO FUCKING TAKE OVER MY PHONE Access to contact list, access to data, etc. etc. You're a fucking torch application! You get access to the flash and that's it!
My new Android phone is in the mail (literally) when it arrives I am throwing the crapberry at a wall.
Could not agree more.
Look I understand that there is some awesome open source software out there, it's just not as good as the closed source stuff.
And that is due to funding, someone spending an hour or two a night on some OSS is not going to be able to compete with someone spending 8 solid hours a day.
Linux has come a long way, but when you have to drop to console to change your fucking resolution because you're using some whack Chinese rippoff monitor and windows just adapts to it then you know you are getting what you paid for.
No offense, but if their code was so shit why did anyone bother stealing it?
Why are they the dominant leaders in their particular area of expertise?
Just because you don't like closed source software does not mean it is shit code.
I have seen plenty of shit code in open source code myself.
Recent observations have brought to light the fact that a large part of the planet earth is covered by tall sabers of what appears to be carbon based material called trees. "This is a game changer" said some asshole who gets paid to think this shit up.
WTF!
What do I have to do to get a fvcking job making up useless shit.
I couldn't agree more, the subject matter does not change from year to year. I remember when I was in my final year in high school getting my accountancy text book and realising that it was the same one my sister had 4 years previously (I noticed because of the bored doodlings in the pages).
If they are changing the text books yearly it means it's just a way to suck more money out of people.
Or anyone else outside the world - oops I mean the USA.

Fvck you, I was born in 1975, stop maligning my birth year!
What you are all overlooking is whether the casino will give a shit. They have their asses covered, it's yours that's on the line not theirs.
It's already too late.

Until you put valuable data on it with no backups. Then they fail almost instantly.
I've done it tons of times in KSP

Now you are just taking the piss out of this!
Yeah the MS hate gets a bit fucking tiring at times.
The xbox controller is better than the psx.
The xbox online market place is better than the psx
The xbox menu system is better than the psx
I own both consoles, and if I want a game that's on xbox and ps3 I usually go with the xbox.
And no, I am not a shill.
Tell me about it.

There is a better option

Xbox controller you can just plug in, windows will recognize it, PS3 you need to download drivers.
It's more for bragging rights at LAN's.
