If using hotmail or yahoo on your browser, turn off images and javascript in email.
How? I can't find those options in the Yahoo Mail Options. Now I could disable images and javascript entirely on my browser, but that's like putting a tourniquet arounds one neck to stop the bleeding from a bloody nose.
Mail providers need to make it easy and painless for users to protect themselves.
This isn't a huge problem for spammers. If they send you an HTML email, then just opening the email (or previewing it in Outlook) can provide the verification that they need.
The easiest solution to this is to use a mail client that supports PLAIN TEXT as an option to view all mail. I'm currently switching over to Mozilla Mail for this very reason. It's easy to do the following: View->Message Body As->Plain Text.
Violla, problem solved. Try that in Outlook, Hotmail, or Yahoo?
In addition my mail provider (pair.com) uses SquirrelMail for their web interface which has a handy feature: "Display Attached Images with Message" -> Set it to NO. SquirrelMail also allows you to chose plain text or HTML as the default view for mail.
The best way to protect yourself is to find mail clients that work with you, not against you. Evil Outlook Preview is a great example!
Sure, IBM lost control of the PC market...but is that better than what's happened to Apple?
Let's go back in time to 1985 and you can choose which company to invest in...IBM or Apple. Hmmm...tough choice isn't it? Their stocks have both appreciated almost the same amount since then! Shocking isn't it.
produce chips using all three of the sophisticated technologies on the industry's bleeding edge: low-k dielectrics, copper interconnect and silicon-on-insulator based transistors
It really isn't that hard to see where IBM will be working with silicon-on-insulator technologies.
Hopefully NVidia will be able to avoid the proprietary pitfall that ultimately doomed 3dfx and Glide.
From the story it sounds like NVidia will allow other cards to support Cg so maybe they can. However I wonder if ATI will be willing to support a standard which NVidia controls. It's like wrestling with a crocodile if you ask me!~
In July, PetsWarehouse.com's computers were "hacked" by Resler. Resler's version is that the invoice he received for his order had a URL on the bottom. When he typed the URL on an Internet browser and changed one letter, he got an in-house version of the invoice that included his credit card information.
In an updated filing dated Sept. 15, Novak added charges related to the computer hacking and named additional defendants. The lawsuit says Novak suffered "headaches, nausea, nervousness, anxiety, embarrassment, humiliation and mental distress." The filing also charged that Resler and others altered password protections, allowing access to PetsWarehouse.com's databases.
"They opened the back door to the computer," Novak said.
sounds more like bad programming instead of hacking. I'm a web dev, I know how EXTREMELY challenging it is to restrict "admin" features to the 10.1 addresses. Oh, it's so hard to do that!
...if you stay up till 3am playing that game work will be hell tommorrow!
I agree, this is a great update! Not without it's flaws but very good! I never played SM:AC, so there is much more new content for me then there is for folks who did!
Corruption is a HUGE issue now. Two things affect the amount of corruption. Distance from Capital and your number of cities. Even with the "enlightened" governments of Republic or Democracy, corruption can really sap the production of your outlying colonies.
I also like the special units that each race gets, let me tell you...don't [] with the Aztecs. Those Jaguar Warriors (2/1/2 I think) are nasty! They actually retreat from battle if they are losing making them a PITA to kill.
The new "mini-wonders" are pretty nice. For example you can build "Battlefield Medicine" if you have 5 hospitals. This allows your troops to heal while in enemy territory.
I like the idea of strategice resources as well! They don't show up on the map until you have researched the technology. You can't build units without it either! For example, Musketmen require saltpeter. You must also connect your cities to these resources via roads. If a city can't get to the resource via a road, it can build units that require that resource! VERY cool! Nothing like starting a war to take your neighbors only source of saltpeter!:)
While I to prefer cash and use it 95% of the time, it does not save me or the business any money.
1 - There is no such thing as a discount for cash. It just doesn't happen. There are a few places (like Steak N Shake, RaceTrak) that are cash only and offer prices that are 1-2% lower, but it's tough to find them.
2 - Cash costs money. It costs money to have a cash safe. It's a security risk to have a lot of cash on hand for change purposes. It costs money to have a security guard come pick up your cash and take it to a bank. There is no clear accounting trail to follow. Whether this is more or less than the 1.5-3% CC charge business, I have no idea. But don't think that cash costs less money.
We are a REPUBLIC of STATES. Once you realize the difference you will realize that the EC serves an important purpose.
HOWEVER, I would like to change it so each state gets 2 electors and the rest are won via the popular vote nationwide.
Thanks to Perot fracturing the fiscal conservative vote (one of the backbones of the Republicans) we have had 8 (maybe 12) years of Clinton/Gore.
Reagan/Bush didn't ruin things any more than Clinton/Gore have.
FYI - I voted for Perot twice and I still don't regret having cost Bush Sr and Dole the election. If my vote for Browne this election costs GW, so be it. Gore won't destroy America anymore than Bush will.
I had the pleasure of voting straight ticket Libertarian! Prez, Gov, US House and State House! I voted for Reform party and independents in all other races and if I had a choice of only a Republicrat I didn't vote.
The only power I have is my vote, I REFUSE to give that power to the Republicans or Democrats. I've sent letters to my County and State RNC's to let them know I won't vote for them until they clean up their act!
Gore: I'm for smaller government and women's right to choose. However I'm against cutting any program or funding for any program. I am for a women's right to choose, unless she chooses to opt out of social security, chooses to smoke pot, chooses where to send her kids to school or chooses to send less of her income to the federal government. I'm not for those kind of choices.
Yup, and the Netherlands has 15 million citizens which would make it the 5th largest US State behind California, New York, Texas and Florida. In land area I'm guessing that the Netherlands would fall in among the smallest US States. Heck the greater metropolitian areas of New York City, Chicago and Los Angles all rival the population of the Netherlands. Folks forget that the US is a very large country (top 5 in land area and about the same in population) and has VERY VERY different cultures. I'm going to guess the Netherlands is fairly homogenous in politics, population and geography.
BTW - NOBODY is arguing that starving people should not eat, however I think that role should fall to the CITIZENS of the country/state/city instead of the GOVERNMENT.
Or can't. Thank you a lot for your, ehh, social approach. If I have to pay taxes so other people don't starve, I'll pay.
Well...if making sure people don't starve is so important...why don't we hand over control of farms and supermarkets to the federal government to make sure not a single person in America starves?
When are people going to realize that the government can't solve all our problems (there will ALWAYS be starving people regardless of how much we try to feed them) and that quite often the government is part of the problem, not the solution.
PS: Anyone complainging about HMO's and the health care system should look up the HMO Act of 1973 and see that the government caused our current mess.
Anyone who has traveled by airplane recently knows exactly what an excise fee. Esentially it is a way to charge those who use government services for those services. The FAA and airports hit airline tickets pretty hard...because its expensive. The gasoline tax is another example, as are toll roads. I'm all for excise taxes, I think they are the best thing since sliced bread! Not to mention they are extremely progressive, the more you use the service, the less your taxed. You don't use it at all..your never taxed!
Excise -
1 : an internal tax levied on the manufacture, sale, or consumption of a commodity
2 : any of various taxes on privileges often assessed in the form of a license or fee
Actually, proportional representation and election reform is one of the basics of the Libertarian platform.
NOTE: I don't see it on their website, but the Libertarian candidates I have asked via e-mail all agreed it past due and they supported reforming both elections and eliminating campaign finance laws. These include NC Governor (Barbra Howe), 4th NC district for US house (Brian Towney) and 62nd NC House district (Ian Sands).
Take it for what its worth...I'll be vote straight party this election;) Straight Party Libertarian!
Education Dept - Have test scores gone up or down in the last 50 years? Are kids more or less ready to enter the workforce over the past 50 years? Do teachers/principals/parents have more or less control over their classroom/school/kids education over the past 50 years? Face it, the attempt to federalize the education system is an unmitigated disaster. Explain to me why the Dept of Education should be kept?
Housing and Urban Dev - Are downtowns more or less safer than 50 years ago? Are government run housing projects better than their private counterparts? Has affordable housing increased in the past 50 years? Has homelessness been reduced? Have people and communities been 'empowered'? Has public trust been restored? (Yes those are all missions of the HUD!). Now explain to me why they have a $32 BILLION budget!!!
FDA - Are drugs cheaper? safer? Is food cheaper? safer? What justifies their $1.3 BILLION budget? Who did more to regulate the meat packing industry in the early 1900's: the federal government or the media? Who did more to get Food Lion to make reforms in the early 1990's: the federal government or the media? The simple answer to food and drug safety is FULL DISCLOSURE. If I know how my food was grown, what pesticides were used and what studies have been done I have enough to educate myself. Ditto with drugs. Give the consumer full disclosure and let it self regulate. Nobody (including libertarians) is for trying to defraud consumers. One of the main tenants of libertarianism is NOBODY is allowed to use force or fraud against an individual. Failure to disclose harmful effects is FRAUD. Make the penalties (at the state and local level) severe enough food and drug companies won't even attempt it.
Actually, I fail to see how killing 100,000 Iraqi men defended the free flow of oil? I fail to see how placing sanctions against food and medical supplies (killing hundreds of thousands more Iraqis) helps defend the free flow of oil? I fail to see how having Saddam still in power defends the free flow of oil?
Saddam was the sole cause behind the Gulf War, yet he is still around to cause trouble? WHY? The United States continues to punish the Iraqi people instead of punishing the one person responsible for the mess.

I suggest you tune in at 11pm for the Sunday Night Sex Show and at Midnight Sat/Sun for Bliss!
Very interesting shows!!! Better than what you have get on HBO and Skinemax, IMHO.

I just wanted to check out their site and their website is already /.'ed.
Oh well
ARgggghh! I can't take it anymore. These have all been lame, lame, lame!
don't waste yer mod points.
Jules Verne had the idea for nuclear subs way back when. Maybe not current enough for you, but definitely a great example.
There is a (z)oom feature. Just press the Z key.
:(
Unfortunately it's just a zoom out too far and a zoom in too close toggle
