Isn't this EXACTLY what that other fellow sued (successfully?) for in a previous story?
No, you're thinking of a gentleman who sued because the domain he had already registered, but not set up yet, was automatically pointed to a "Coming Soon" page, loaded with advertisements for the registrar.
It would be like paying Nike to put an advertisement on your shirt.
We've got something similar, called "Security Screen" or something. if there is no CAller ID information, the caller is prompted with a friendly voice:
The number you are calling does not accept unidentified calls. If you are a solicitor, please hang up now. Otherwise, please enter the 10 digit number you are calling from.
So When I call my girlfriend from work, I just enter my phone number, it shows up on the Caller ID as "Security screen - 555-555-1212".
The only solicitors I get now are people who work from home and their own number shows up on the caller ID, which is great, because I just call them daily at 6:00 pm and list off the crap I have sitting in my garage for sale.
* Web browsing and online research

I think "Online" and "Java" are the importand Games keywords.
I'm sure the police and military run a lot of 7 minute recon missions. Yup, now as soon as someone comes up with a wireless camera and weapon that weighs less than a sugar cube, we're in business.
This would prove extremely useful for opressing miniature people.
I hope it goes well and they learn lots and repeat the experiment a couple of times to compare how a mixed sex crew or all female crew works in comparison.
the trust you gain from being an in game buddy is nothing you can get IRL.
Right. because in real life, I can't protect my girlfriend from Ogres and Vampires. Years of love and devotion can never compare to what I have with my h0tcH1(k_967.
There are three basic classifications of people who are not cool, listed here in order of uncoolness (least uncool first, most uncool last) geeks, nerds, and dorks. If you are curious of what you are, remember these guidlines:
geeks like computers.
nerds like math.
dorks like dungeons and dragons.
If you like more than one of the above, this will not help your coolness factor. D&D loving dorks cannot raise themselves to geek status by liking computers, they simply become a geeky dork. Likewise, geeks who take up math lose their status as simply "geek" and become an even less cool "geeky nerd".
ECS announced recently its DeskNote i-Buddie A980 mobile desktop PC, the first ever mobile barebone computer. It features no display, no CPU, no RAM and no HDD, but only the "case" with keyboard and touchpad. The indisputable trump of the novelty is that you are free to install the most high-end and cutting-edge hardware, or you may buy not really expensive components that are enough for your needs.
Here is the list of i-Buddie A980 technical peculiarities:
* Supports Socket 478 Pentium 4 / Celeron processors with 400/533MHz FSB with 3.06GHz clock-speed and above;
* SiS650 chipset with SiS962 I/O controller;
* 1 DIMM slot for up to 1GB of PC2100 or PC2700 DDR SDRAM memory.
* Integrated graphics core, ability to install NVIDIA GeForce4 Go420 mobile graphics card.
* 2-channel ATA-100/66/33 integrated controller;
* Includes an 8x DVD-ROM drive;
* Free bay for 2.5" HDD;
* 4 USB 2.0 ports;
* FireWire (IEEE1394) port;
* IR port with transfer rate up to 115.2Kbit/s;
* 10/100Mbit/s Ethernet adapter and connector;
* Integrated 56K modem;
* 6-channel audio solution and built-in speakers;
* Size: 342mm (W) x 300mm (D) x 34mm(min)/50.5mm(max); * Weight: 1.8Kg.
End-users have a lot of opportunities to expand and configure such computers, they even now can choose between 14" and 15" TFT panel, what should allow ECS' customers to get the most cost-effective solutions possible.
According to this French web-site, such barebones will be priced at $300. Not expensive, I believe, but remember that you will need to get a display, a microprocessor, a memory module and a hard disk drive to make it functional. It seems that the DeskNote i-Buddie A980 will hit the stores quite soon, as certain European local resellers of DeskNote computers already promote it and it seems that the only thing that stops them from starting the sales is the absence of appropriate LCD displays for such computers.
Last year ECS did not achieve its full-year shipment targets on the DeskNote line of products (see this news-story). Elitegroup Computer Systems decided to follow its usual strategy of offering the cheapest products possible and in order to achieve this it needs to buy as few expensive devices as possible. Since LCD panels seem to be the most highly-priced parts of DeskNote systems, the Chinese company decided to sell the DeskNote PCs without LCD panels in order to keep the inventory level of such units low. This seems to be the right idea in order to keep the lowest prices possible; however, I doubt it will help ECS to skyrocket the sales of its DeskNotes in Europe or the USA, because not a lot of customers want to build notebooks on their own. On the other hand, a lot of companies sell already functional DeskNote computers, which purchase seems to be more interesting.
Time will tell if ECS is able to boost its sales of portable desktop computers by selling display-less DeskNotes.
Or half the people in America, it seems. My partner rear ended a man in traffic. There were no physical injuries or damage done to either vehicle (low speed). The man then tried to sue her for "loss of conjugal rights". That's just stupid.
Not a bad idea. Why not make an iMac without a monitor at all, just give it a vga port (or whatever comes standard on macs these days) and let the user buy an external monitor?
If the recycling company paid you for the cans, they were idiots. The cans that you pay a deposit for are clearly marked
You're absolutely right, cans are clearly marked. My Coke can (I'm in Oregon) says "Oregon 5 cent Refund - California Cash refund" So I assume that even though I bought the can in Oregon, I can take it to CA to get the Cash refund. This "Blue Sky" Black Cherry can is labeled "VT NY IA MA 5cents ME OR CT - CA Cash refund - MI 10cents" so theoretically the 5 cent bottle deposit I paid at Fred Meyer in Portland can be refunded in several states, and I can get double my refund in Michigan!
You're probably right. The original point of the post was that the American people did not vote Republican, we voted Democrat. The electroal college voted Republican.
Since ALL the electral college votes for a state are supposed to go for the candidate with the majority votes in that state, then after 49 of the states' popular votes are in, and Alice is winning by 8 (projected) electoral votes, and Alaska has only 3 votes, it really doesn't matter if I vote for Bob or not.
But wait... it could be overridden if a State with a lot of votes, for instance Florida, had a problem with their ballots and people had mistakenly voted for Alice instead of Bob. Yeah, they could redo the vote. That could happen.
I agree with you Joey, that the founding fathers probably didn't have a lot of confidence in American people. I don't think our current "fathers" have much confidence in us either (or me for them, generally).
It would be like paying Nike to put an advertisement on your shirt.
Oh wait... people do that...
Why the hell did I do that?
The only solicitors I get now are people who work from home and their own number shows up on the caller ID, which is great, because I just call them daily at 6:00 pm and list off the crap I have sitting in my garage for sale.

RH Advance Server costs money. You pay RedHat and they mail you media/licenses.
Why people don't check archive.org on a story as OLD as this, I don't know. here it is.
This would prove extremely useful for opressing miniature people.

First off how would this be useful? Why do we need to apply terraforming procedures to earth?
Secondly, what right do we have to terraform another planet? Specifically one that may already support life.

Considering the web server has no display, no ram, no hard drive...
Where are the wings? Where are the lasers? Techno-cool cars my ass.
I thought lesse was moore...
Yes, it's off topic.
But that's progess.
PS netscape 7 renders the page fine.
A little off topic perhaps, but i'd like to know.

Don't you mean "Oh Contrare"?
