i guess someone at eBay caught on? or.. got sick of the stupid bids?:P either way, MIR fell east of NZ, not between Australia and NZ.
have you ever called IBM or SONY help lines? those guys dont know squat about anything! recently, i got a new SONY F690 laptop, and after i searched for win2k drivers with no avail.. i called them up, hoping to get access to the drivers that were shipped with the F690K (win2k version).
i started the conversation, being cool and collective.. and told him my background so he wouldn't treat me like a dont-know-shit guy. my basic question was.. ok.. you have a F690K model and i have a F690 model - hardware wize, they are the same (same CPU etc etc). can you give me a link/ftp site to get the drivers..
the bone head says "i'm sorry sir, you dont have a F690K model"..
surely the guy knew shit. with the local ISP's (heck, back in 1995 when i started with one) it was great.. you rang, the guy on the other end was a techno-geek. you started talking.. you got things done.. newbie customers (who know crap) probably hated these guys.. but, i loved em:)
for phase one.. the idea is awesome:) the idea is to always stay one step ahead of the bad guys (or good, depending on how you see them) and this was simply a game.. i doubt the game is actually over.. DirectTV just created an additional challenge.. let the new games begin.
in many sports already (cricket for example) a third umpire has been in place to make that final decision if the two on the field cannot make up their mind or there is some point of uncertaincy in the decision.
now, this advancement is cool.. could be a bit of a problem if there are other people in the way of the 33 camera's:)) they never demo'd this thing with a field FULL of players:P i guess the ladies will be very happy.. some close ups of some NFL butts in those rotational shots:)
i dont think there will be replacement umpires:) however, it may help clarify those "oh bullsh*t" type discussions we have on the couch when there is a penalty that we think is unlawfully cranted:)
Just curious - what API's are you referring to that M$ won't release public docs on, or is that what you've read several thousand times from other people?
<sarcasm>
its those API's that cause all those blue screens in Internet Explorer et al:) the "normal" developers follow the API's, so blue screens are less likely:P
</sarcasm>
during my university years, i kinda found it hard to pin point a good lecturer that i could associate with and actually get really interested in studying. i spend most of my time doing contracts and ended turning up to only the first lecture, last lecture and exam - however, i made it. the plot thickens tho...
in a move from down under (.au) to sweden (.se) my path was made by becoming a teacher myself! i must say, its been interesting, if anything - i have tried to do exactly NOT what my teachers did. my strategy is simple, put enough pressure on them, after the first group drops out - you have a good bunch, then make it fun.
recently (final exam this friday) had an advanced java programming course.. started with 37 students, 11 dropped out within first two weeks. it was basically a new topic from the JDK 1.1 every week (RMI, Threading etc).. kinda got too much for em:) they were putting in 30-40 hours a week to studying.. once all the topics were covered (they had labs on them too) i made it clear that those left will pass, and do well. i then made it 10 more weeks of fun. take an arcade game, do it. if you dont do anything, it'll be boring.. otherwise, you'll have fun. you have no project at demo, you dont pass. i turned up weekly (fridays) and got status reports, helped them with some problems that came up.. and, after running the course since sept. 2000 - the results are showing.
they all agree, that through me forcing them to work on their own initiative - its the best course they ever had.. however, it had nothing to do with the teacher.. i was just there, directing them. they all taught themselves.. the concept of teacher = higher power didn't exist, it was a massive group thing, everyone working to improve each other..
they were nice guinea pigs:)
ps: look forward to the implementations of the classic arcade games on friday:)
and i ordered a grande for that special person. delivering it all the way to Australia, with the summer heat... oh yeah.. should retain some moisture and get really stinky by the time they open it up:)) cannot wait to hear about there experience..
what about driver development? lets say company X wants to build a driver for thier new graphics card Y. will they require a seperate development license? what if the machine they got the license for was incorrectly set up and they needed to change the motherboard, CPU or bios? i think the problem with this type of protection is that users cannot legitimately upgrade their existing hardware. if you destroy/sell your old laptop, and you dont pass on the windows installation disks (maybe they dont want them) then you still own the license - and should be free to re-install it on your new machine.
M$ will probably store the "information" into the system registry somewhere.. i am sure it wont be long before someone figures out where it is, and posts a solution on a warez website somewhere:))
And get constant product returns for refund and service calls and.... Computer manufactures who can't handle the cost of customer support will either fold or use an alternate!
maybe M$ has a new revenue plan..:) they might have signed an agreement with AT&T - and get a cut of all the costs incurred from the service calls (of course, they would have to make it a non 1-800 number):P

you know.. http://www.killfrog.com/00/dab.html is quite amusing.. i guess, you could shove some TNT up the bass' ass to simulate the demonstration on this website:P
You apparently have no idea what a Camel Testicle Scraper gets paid
i guess we could just ask one of those guys who travel around the desert with the camels - surely one of them have to clean the camels when they get dirty testicles:)
When you buy the vinyl record, and you buy the CD of the same album, you are not getting the same thing. The CD is of a much higher quality.
you'll find, vinyls produce a better frequency response than a CD does:) which is better? it all depends on your analysis. just for the record, my vinyls sound much better than the equilivent CD recordings as i like to *feel* my bass (the popping sounds when no music is playing is a minor issue):P

fine, you can have your election - and waste a lot of time debating who's got the biggest d*ck in the process.. but, honestly - instead of wasting all this money on "political campaigns" why dont you start feeding the homeless and providing shelter for those who need it most? i give it 18 months before Gore or Bush (i really dont care who wins) do something really stupid. what will we hear next?
"i did not have sexual relations with the APARNET.".. Al Gore, 2000
politicians are all the same, waste your tax money and get crap from every news agency there is. I think, if any network was going to "die" this week, its a USA based network - in Germany, people are joking about the stupidity of this election. but, its ok. while the americans have wasted a whole week on electorial spasms, the rest of the world have been moving forward.
Germany does not recognize Scientology as a religion and has taken a tough stance against the group, describing it as an unwelcome cult and saying it is a purely economic organization exploiting the weakness of its members for profit.
oh man.. this is low. what has religion got to do with anything here? how many developers at microsoft are athiests or heck.. *jew*.. or even dont have a religion at all? maybe some kiddy programmer checks the username against a list of well known german military ranks (hitler et al) and upon finding it executes a swift "format c:\/q/u"?
if you dont like it, choose another product. choose life, choose linux.
