Just for completeness, Gaim *has* suffered multiple block attempts from AOL. They have, however, been very succesful every time at releasing updates that fix the blockages, usually within a few hours.
Trillian, on the other hand, has been very slow. I remember being unable to sign on for about a week, while gaim would just chug along happily on my linux box
If their business model requires me to not opt-in, what sort of business model is that? Just because opt-in isn't in their favor doesn't mean that they should have the right to waste my resources hawking their wares.
Any time where I have to pay to receive messages, I shouldn't have to receive messages I didn't sign up for. If I get an ad in an email, it's usually a sure fire way for me to avoid that company and it's products
a lot of times, a while after the game has come out, there's a huge discount to get a lot of new players into the game. I remember seeing asheron's call about 6-8 months ago for 10 bucks plus 2 months free subscription...at a cost of 10 bucks a month..
so you end up with a net surplus of 10 dollars in your wallet for those 2 months. it's a pretty decent deal if you like those games.
The teachers still need to buy the hardware from Apple to run this though right? Can you get a new Apple computer without the OS installed? If not, then this kinda doesn't help new users much
undefined you say?
for those that can't be bothered to click the link, it's "A member or supporter of a small cooperative or a collectivist community."
according to this, microsoft has already changed the security keys so this is really a nonissue. The details of it would most likely have leaked regardless of whether the paper was published, so microsoft saves some face and decides to stay out of it whilst fixing the problem so it can't work in the future. i don't see what the big deal of microsoft not using some law is anyway.
there is a link to "CD-ROMS" that took me about 2 seconds to find. it lists a bunch of distributers of OpenOffice, for example http://www.atari-source.com/~cdstore/ where you can order a cd for 2 bucks.
A big "Buy Here" link would probably help out, but the link is definitly there
From the article: "For the hacker community, Firebolt includes ethernet drivers, allowing TiVo to download programming data from the Internet using a special backdoor key."
So right now, the capability is being built in for ethernet but it's not offical yet. The FAQ on Tivo's site also talks about future broadband capabilities. Since the new series2 has USB ports, I wouldn't be surprised if they come out with official USB ethernet support.
the register had an article about this a few days ago. A flawed Document.Open() in the script apparently causes it. The demo site the reg links to is pretty interesting. And of course, MS has known about this since december:-P
Most people are making the argument of how similar "Lindows" is to "Windows", but as far as I can see, the product is called "LindowsOS". How one can construe "LindowsOS" to being similar to "Windows", "Microsoft WindowsXP Professional", etc.. is laughable.
as if they didn't already know that US special forces have infiltrated the major cities....i doubt they would expect to see special forces wearing a big badge saying "we're american's". this is not something that is a major revelation.
