I would like to know when/if IBM will start porting development tools to Linux. In particular Lotus Notes/Designer/Admin. I'd much rather do Lotus development in a Linux enviroment with the flexability that it provides.
Others have taken issue with the idea on the basis of security, but I would take issue with it on the ability to implement. All of the distributed proccess I am aware of (which is by no means all of them) run basically the same way. They are NOT real-time. A MMORPG is real-time, monsters react in real-time, players move in real-time. In distributed processing you get a (rather large) dataset and process it. When you are finished the results are returned. This often happens over days or at least hours. I can't think of any process in an MMORPG that would be condusive to this process.
Just to add to the fodder. I have 3 IBM GXP75's running in my LAN case. It gets moved, tossed, kicked... The only problem I've had so far with them is that one of the molar power connectors has a slight problem, its not well attached to the PCB any more. Other than that they are working flawlessly. Two are in a Striped RAID config one is solo. In the same period of time that I have had those drives, two of the Maxtors I've had in the same machine have died, and the third maxtor I think is on its way out. Oh how I used to love my Maxtor drives.
Cheers all.
Yes, I just finished reading the post. When I initially scanned over it I missed the Amazon bit. Sorry. I was so excited to see the outpouring of support on amazon I jumped to post it.

I've been watching Amazon.com's RedCross donation page today. It was mentioned here earlier. It has just passed $1 million collected with over 36,000 people contributing. Truely amazing.
I hope everyone will consider donating at least a little bit to help the victims.
For those in the LA Area or Inland Empire, there is a "Computer Show" at the Fairplex in Pomona once or twice a month. Vendors from the greater LA area come in a set up. 10-5 Saturday and Sunday, there's one this weekend. Prices are slightly above Pricewatch (http://www.pricewatch.com) and much better than any retail stores around. Theres usually over a hundred vendors there with brand-new name brand OEM and Retail stuff and a ton of generic parts. You can get whole systems or individual parts very close to wholesale prices.
Info:
Price: $7 for parking, $8 (I think) for admission or $25 for an annual pass (do the math)
Location: East of LA about an hour in Pomona off the I-10 at the Fairplex, just follow the signs. Its usually in buildings 6 & 7.
As a fan of the games, such as DOOM and Quake, this rather scares the hell out of me.
No, I don't think they are going to win lawsuit, at least not the $5 Billion that they want. But they very well could run a few of the game developers out of business. This case will cost the game developers tens of thousands of dollars per day to defend against. It will probably be dragged out as long as possible by the plantif, meaning that it could very easily cost millions of dollars in lawyer fees.
Someone mentioned that the lawyer prosicuting the case is probably doing it for free, but I'd be very surprized if the defense lawyer did.
The other problem is the lawsuit will probably be aimed at the developers of the game, not the publishers. Sierra and Activision just publish the games for the developers like id Software. Most game development companies don't have that much money (id Software being the biggest exception), partly because many of them are one shot wonders. They get one good game out that repays the capital used to develop the game and fund the development for the next game (which may not be a big hit) and thats it.
We aren't talking about a lawsuit against some huge mega-corporations that have the money to burn and will just write it off at the end of the year. The lawsuit will kill the small game developers, even if the ruling is in their favor.
The Hamilton Watch company was established in 1892, in Lancaster Pennsylvania. If the date that the pawnbroker engraved is correct that is a very vaulable and historical watch. I'd have a case made for it and would try to keep it in its origonal condition. You may also want to have it appraised and insured depending on it's actual vaule.

I see the woz.org has been slashdotted. So I've posted a mirror at http://www.discover.net/~still/ No images, just the important stuff. I expect woz.org to be back up soon.

Oh come on, where's all of the jokes about the "School of Hard NOCs"?

Ah, glad to hear I can blame product failures on the customers now.

How do we tell when we have crossed the line between 'Live and let live' and 'Kill or be killed'?
If we retaliate, will it spawn more violence?
If we fail to retaliate, do we invite more terrorism?
