For your information:
Linux is now one of the Oracle strategic platforms (with solaris and NT). The support is at least as good as NT. Some tests have proved that performance is better with Linux. There are NO features missing in the last version of Oracle for Linux. It even includes all the GUI applications (Enterprise manager). I have had many good experiences with it. They are now bringing their dev. tools to Linux (JDeveloper is coming out soon)...
I hope this clears it up

I think that (at least here in Switzerland) if a clause in a contract is illegal, the rest of the contract stills holds. Only the illegal part of the contract would be invalid...
France has just reactivated it's anti-terrorist plan (called vigipirate).
It means: military people under the Eiffel tower. Every trash can in Paris is removed (it's not a joke...) and Jets with missiles at 10min of flight from Paris.
So France should be about as secure as the US...
There a nice comparison of all the major DB systems on linux (DB2, Oracle, Sybase, Informix, Mysql, Postgresql) in the dead trees Linux Magazine of last month. It may be a good starter point for you, even if it's a bit short on details. There a nice comparison chart of all the DBs in it.
How strange:
I have 372 mails in my kmail sent-mail folder and I have yet to get a question about the strange text at the beginning and the end of my messages...
I have even convinced one of my business partners to get a key so I could send him confidential information by email...
Take a look at Forte For Java or Netbeans. Netbeans is the basis for Forte, so it's basically the same. Both are really good Java IDE with Form design support (including GridBagLayout, the most advanced Java GUI concept). They support a big bunch of functionalities: JSP, CVS, automatic doc generation, and many more. If you're used to VB, Java is really easy to grok, many of the concepts are similar and the documentation is really good.
Hope it helps....

The new version of quicktime streaming server has a web interface for management of the server. Currently it's quite simple but it allows normal people to make the basic server config...
Qmail is a very good piece of software, secure, efficient, fast and with many add-ons available. The main problem I've had with it is the documentation, which is somewhat missing.
The software is really modular, with a daemon to handle every task, you can really tailor it to your needs. Spam blocking, virtual hosting and more are done with modules. One of the results of this is that you have to look at many places for documentation and these many docs often contradict themselves.
There's a howto of correct quality, but if you go a bit further than standard setup (I tried to setup vmailmgr for virtualhosting) you're bust!
I also urge you to set it up on a debian distro, because some stuff like user accounts is already configured.

I think I will now be buying only even releases of SuSE because of their price. I am using some packages of the "pro" version (like IBM JDK...) so I can't go with the personal one.
It's sad that their price got a 100% increase for really few added functionality...
I think those nifty Evans&Sutherland cards are supported, but check their website because I don't know if it's their entire product line or only a few cards...
In Switzerland, where I live, people are getting mad with messages: my girlfriend sends about 100 a month (3 per days) I've heard some friends speaking about 200 a month Swisscom, the leading provider of mobile phone communications in Switzerland are sending 1 million messages each day! ( they have about 500'000 subscribers I think) Switzerland is known to be one of the countries where text messages are the most used... (the cost of a message equals about 30 seconds of conversation, and swiss people like getting to the point without talking much, and messages are good for this task)
Yeah! and while you're at it, go to Iraq and tell that to the people starving to death because of the embargo... This kind of attitude has proved many times in the past that it was not the good one... The situation in Kosovo is a shame for the UN.
I didn't say I agreed with what Milosevic did, but the bombing was just what he expected. The worse of what he did, he did it with the help of the US (NATO) bombings.
I'm not going to argue about what the swiss banks did, but I'll just add that while politicians and bankers were getting dirty with Germany, many swiss people helped jewish people getting out of Germany. The problem with americans is that it's either white or black but rarely an opinion has a sense of objectivity... It's sad, because to solve problems you have to admit your faults and build on them Not exactly the attitude of the USA...
From the comments I just read below, I get a quite bad view of the young americans (the main audience of slashdot...) Not a single of you seem to know anything about Bové (yeah with one of those characters you can't find on your keyboard) except the little 30 seconds subject you saw on CNN (what a source...) I have nothing against american people, but I hate your way of taking position on any subject without having the smallest idea about it. It sadly also applies to politics: Clinton: yeah we're gonna destroy this Milosevic jerk and his army... result: Milosevic is still there and those Migs, well, they were made of plastic... And guess what: the situation may be worse now than before the war...
I hope the 21 century will see the end of the US world domination. You can say: we're the best and we deserve this domination, but this is plain false... Because many aspects of this domination were obtained by errr... not very ethical means...
Look a bit at your country and your problems before banging on anybody out there...
Human rights: Did I hear death penalty, racist justice? Racism: Did I hear KKK, Rodney King... Politics: no, I won't say anything, except that the US monetary balance make it look like an african country...
So try to grow up a bit before judging everybody in the world like you were God himself...
Now, ready to flame? That's exactly what I'm expecting, so come on!
When I bought SuSE 6.4, I noticed that the box had become much larger than the older releases... I guess all the arguments I read below (visibility, impulse buying aspect, etc...) also apply here...:-( What's sad is that the box's contents are exactly the same (CD box + manual)
I hope this trend will reverse, but my illusions are already gone...

holy shit:
when reading your post I just selected the word "selectivitis"...
It seems it's even contagious...
this is going to be the biggest tax write-off in history.
Congrats Bill.
Obviously you need a new set of geese for your house...
You really gotta try "pornolizing" the microsoft site...
The Windows XP product page made me spew my coffee!!
I can confirm that SAP DB is included in SuSE 7.3...
You can get more info at http://www.sapdb.org
Sorry pal, no Bojmir in Switzerland...(I live there)
You certainly meant Sweden (often confused with Switzerland) or Finland (Where there's actually such a project...)

Don't forget to stuff the empty space in your racks with the nice stuff they make at FunkLogic
Sooo stylish...
Penguin Peppermints, he!
Isn't it possible to spell check (at least) the titles of your articles?

It's a pleasure to read articles like this one, with some research behind them. That's good journalism...
I guess the reporter was high when he wrote that piece...
