Do you know why they're not?

Because American animation sucks. That, and those are KID'S shows. I've said it before, but I'll say it again. Anime is hardly just for kids. The subjects run the gamut from the kid's stuff all the way up to some very adult material...oh, what's the use. It's not like anyone's actually listening to me.

Anyone who's seen even one episode of Evangelion knows that it is most definitely NOT for kids. Hell, It's too weird for some adults I know.

You're stuck in the typical American mindset that animation is just for kids. You couldn't possibly be more wrong. While it may be that way in the States, Japanese animation covers just about every topic and genre, from kid's shows to pornography. Very little is taboo.

Next time, try learning a little about the subject before you start making broad generalizations. Better to keep your mouth shut and have everyone think you're a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt.

  8. Let's use a little common sense... on Napster Goes Before US Congress · · Score: 2

If the recording industry really wanted to do what Napster is doing now, they would have bought them out a year ago and done it. All they want is to shut it down, regardless of the amount of legal wreckage they leave in their wake.

Napster is dead. Long live Napster.

The RIAA will shut them down, but someone else will quickly rise to take its place. Of course, once the first is closed under legal issues, any following systems will be quickly eliminated, because now they have a legal precedent. The only reason this is taking so damn long is because it's never happened before.

  9. Re:AP Computer Science Teacher's Point of View.. on Are Kids Turning Your Kids Into Killers? · · Score: 1

I was one of those kids that was on the recieving end of all that bullying. I got pushed around a lot in high school, and it probably drove me nuts. It didn't help that the school had chose to pack 15 people into what used to be a utility closet for a computer class, shove 40+ people in a room designed for 25, and cut the lunch period to 25 minutes so they could actually feed everyone.

Having teachers that didn't care, guidance counselors that didn't guide, and a drill instructor for a phys-ed teacher didn't help either. Guess what, folks? You pay a teacher $18,500 a year, do you think they're going to care? No, they're not. They're going to leave that classroom, get in their 10-year-old Ford Escort and drive across town to their second job so they can pay the rent/mortgage/whatever that month.

People wonder why the quality of education has gone down. It's because the quality of the teachers has gone down. Drastically. Take it from someone who's been through the meat grinder that is high school.

I don't necessarily blame the teachers. If they were paid more, they'd probably care more. They wouldn't need to haul ass to that second job to pay the rent. THey'd be able to spend more time working on their lessons, or talking to students.

What say we spend a few billion less on our military machine and a few billion more on new schools, and higher salaries for teachers. It horrifies me that these people are responsible for giving our children an education, making them what should be the most valued profession, and yet, they're among the lowest-paid. Garbage collectors get paid more than the average teacher in the US! It's ridiculous how badly skewed our priorities are in this country these days.

And for God's sake, people, don't blame movies, TV, music or videogames for violence in schools. Maybe if teachers could teach, and talk to kids, instead of them all being packed in like sardines, maybe we wouldn't have this problem.

The recording industry's business model is woefully outdated. They're playing the traditional head in the sand role. If they'd wake up and realize what they had here, they'd drop this whole mess! We could reduce the size of the Web to fit on a Zip disk after we got rid of the junk! Hell, getting rid of the pr0n alone would be enough to get it on a CD-R.

  15. Re:Xbox all of you dont get it... on XBox Tidbits · · Score: 1

And what exactly do you think MS will do when the XBox comes out?

They'll probably do the same thing everyone else is. Consider MS' habit of completely dominating every market it gets its grubby fingers in. This is one market where it simply CANNOT dominate because there's too much stiff competition. Admit it. Sony, Sega, and Nintendo have been in the console business for a lot longer than MS has. And despite all their claims, they really have no idea what they're getting themselves into.

I don't think the XBox will dominate the console market. Nor do I think it'll disappear. As you said, more competition will drive prices down. That's how it works. And I'm looking forward to that.

As for the system itself, it's still totally unproven to me. System specs and doctored screenshots are meaningless to me. I don't care WHAT they say it can do until I see it do it myself, with the controller in my hot little hands. Then, and only then, will I believe them.

  16. Re:does it use linux on Canadian TV Now V-Chip Ready · · Score: 1

I don't think it uses any kind of OS at all. It's probably just a simple logic chip or an EEPROM or something like that that's designed only to pick up an incoming signal, then send a message to the rest of the TV to stop the picture and sound until the channel's changed.

  17. The V-Chip on Canadian TV Now V-Chip Ready · · Score: 1

Personally, I think people need to take more responsibility for their own actions. I have nothign against the V-chip personally. I have no need or use for it (I'm 22 years old, single, no kids), but since it doesn't add more than maybe a buck or so to the cost of a TV, and since it's in EVERY TV, then it's no big deal.

Actually, I think it's a good idea. Let us censor our OWN viewing. I personally don't need anyone else to tell me what I can and can't say.

It's all those other idiots in the US that think the right to free speech is also the right to shoot their mouth off whenever they damn well feel like it. Nobody seems to realize anymore that A: With rights come responsibilities, and B: that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. In other words, we need to watch what we say and do on our own, and not let the government slowly take away our rights with every liberal ass-wipe who wants to add another law to the books.

They should NOT make a Zelda movie. That's the last thing we need, to totally ruin that franchise's reputation.

Yeah, I had an NES when I was a kid. (Hell, everybody did) Hard to believe it's been 15 years since then..wow.. And look at how far the industry has come.. We've gone from games that were mostly short on flash and heavy on fun to nearly the opposite. Game companies seem more interested in polygons and resolution than actual gameplay(with some exceptions of course). Although nowadays, there's a lot more games marketed to older people instead of just kids (unless you own an N64. You have 3.). You'll forgive me if I wax sentimental here, but I loved playing those older games. They were just, well, fun. Granted, I still love my Playstation, and will be getting a PS2(eventually), but I still really enjoy pulling out my old NES and playing a little Zelda once in a while. It's relaxing for me, and I find that there are few newer games that can give me that same sense of sheer enjoyment. (The Crash Bandicoot series, Spyro series, and Chrono Cross are a few of a pretty short list) Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I'm going to try to save the princess.
