This has more to do with the way people in general think. I suppose an extreme "example" would be the character Sheldon on Big Bang Theory. Sheldon believes himself superior to everyone due to his high IQ but fails miserably at interpersonal relationships. He also does not see wealth/power as things to be pursued. He is truly happy unraveling the mysteries of science/technology. And he perceives his intellectual superiority to be a form of power. People who become politicians usually do so precisely because they seek to control others. If you look at the truly great men in power throughout history most of them were either put there by someone else or forced into seeking power to prevent what they perceived as evil from getting it.
what's funny is I got hooked on programming by typing in the machine code/assembler programs from the back of Byte (or was it Compute!) magazine on my C64. I'd wait for each new issue and sit at the keyboard for what seemed like hours to see what I could "create" I had no clue what I was actually typing in but the fact that I put it in the computer and it did something meaningful led me to investigate it further and eventually I took an advanced math class that was basically a 7th grade computer programming class. ( Ah that TRS 80 and BASIC! ) By the time I got to high school I went for C/C++ ( IBM ATs in class and an Atari 1040 STe @ home ) I thoroughly enjoyed breaking down the logic and figuring out how to have a computer do what I wanted it to do. Then reality set in. I got a job...programming! It was never as much fun after that.
And then they fired all of their trained service personnel and offered to hire them back at reduced pay and no seniority. The writing was clearly on the wall at that point.
On a related note since reopening CompUSA/CC Tiger Direct seems to have gone for a hybrid sales/service team. It's not great but at least most of the staff knows a little about their product. Their not as pushy and simply hand you a ticket for the cashier to give them credit for helping you.
You're lucky you never tried to buy anything there with $2 bills or pick up anything you ordered from bestbuy.com or you could have been posting from the prison library.
And forced bundling agreements from content providers. Let's say you are Disney and all the pay TV companies are wanting to add your staple channels (Disney Channel, ABC, ESPN) to their lineup. You know they NEED those channels to be competitive in the market so you see an opportunity to up-sell some of your less popular properties. You insist that if the paytv company wants ESPN they must purchase the ESPN bundle and put all ESPN networks on their lowest tier offering. The paytv company objects but ultimately gives in because they need ESPN to remain relevant. They are now obligated to pass the cost of this bundle on to every subscriber since the bundle is on every package.
Your friend is correct, science does not allow that. Genuine science would refute such things.
Unfortunately, true and honest scientists are not the only people in the world, and it is far easier to construct a conniving lie than it is to show the truth.
Like the tobacco causing cancer denialists, or the creationists, or the pro-industry groups. They have no shame. They will tell you true lies all day, while castigating others for minor flaws.
While few on/. care to make the distinction I believe you are referring to IDists...creationists and IDists are not mutually exclusive. This matters since there are creationists who believe fully in science they just believe there is a creator. I know to most that sounds ludicrous but no more so than people believing Kim Kardashian has talent.
So we'll put you under the Offended column.
What's funny is last week in our weekly meeting our boss told us "unofficially" if we wanted to get a leg up in our careers at this co. we might want to learn how to use a Mac. (better ?) Aren't Macs supposed to be effortless to use?
Activision was founded by Atari programmers who left the company in 1979 because Atari did not allow credits to appear on the games and did not pay employees a royalty based on sales. At the time, Atari was owned by Warner Communications, and the developers felt that they should receive the same recognition that musicians, directors, and actors got from Warner's other divisions. After Activision went into business, Atari quickly sued to block sales of Activision's products, but never won a restraining order and ultimately lost the case in 1982.[7] This court case legitimized third-party development, encouraging companies such as Quaker Oats (with their US Games division) to rush to open video-game divisions, hoping to impress both stockholders and consumers.
You know it's on when Quaker Oats gets in the game baby!
Don't know what site was infected but I saw the JAVA icon pop up in the system tray on my windows 7 pc and the next thing I know there are a hundred popup windows telling me my HDD had failed and one window for S.M.A.R.T. HDD telling me I needed to purchase the full version to remove viruses. I spent all morning and much of the afternoon cleaning that crap up...
Yeah, Micro Channel was IBM's ploy to kill the clone market by introducing proprietary hardware into an open architecture and licensing to the competition. The industry responded with VESA Local Bus which wasn't as good but it was open and OEMs could target a much larger install base than Micro Channel.
Actually I'm not sure what either of you are on about...That is from ME2 which was released over 2 years ago.

Heh...you probably thought Trekkies were bad. Wait till a Tax Nerd corners you at a party.
Slightly on-topic...this site might be a good place to get specific tax questions answered.

So you are the 10%
Insightful?
That should be modded Redundant.
Gotta say this is what I felt when I heard the news ;)
Summary:
If you open Terminal and run
This just offended or confused 90% of the MAC users
Loss of publishing control

OS/2 is still being updated/supported just not as OS/2. eComStation Is currently available and works with most current generation hardware.
