    I'm guessing you haven't noticed the proliferation of outpatient clinics. Many of which don't even have a doctor on staff. They outfit the place with a nurse practitioner and usually a couple of RN, LPN, or LVN's to treat a wide range of medical maladies.

    A growing percentage of our GDP is going to taking care of senior citizens.
    A growing percentage of our GDP is going to health care.
    A growing percentage of our GDP is going to the military.

    Either find ways to spend less on the above, increase income dramatically or deal with decreasing other services. Fourth option is a combinationation of the first three. I see no other choices.

    You've done most of the heavy lifting for me so thank you for that. My solution would address all three issues you cited simultaneously.

    Reinstate the draft for anyone over 65 and put them on the front lines of any major conflicts.

    Many will see the humor...many more will be appalled at the notion...but the truly "touched" will be marketing this to their representative.

    Microsoft has been threatening to sue hardware OEMs that sell devices loaded with Android despite the fact Google/Linus own the licenses of the software Microsoft is alleging infringe on their IP. If Motorola/Google can get Microsoft into a cross-licensing deal it would indemnify anyone using Android and Microsoft couldn't nickel and dime each and every OEM. I'd say it was to be expected.

    What would you do if a bully was scaring and shaking down all of your customers?

    These court ordered blockades are simply seen by the network as damage that the network was designed to be able to work around. If Paul Baran hadn't spearheaded this effort at RAND the original AT&T would most likely still own America with its central office.

    It was ASSUMED based on OBSERVATIONS using the tools available at the time. Just as it is ASSUMED the universe is X number of years old based on the tools we now have. That number could and probably will change as our tools/understanding improve provided we survive the zombie apocalypse..

    Who's facts are we using for this conversation? There are lots of theories based on perception of observations and even more conjecture based on rumors and innuendo but not much in the facts dept. Remember...it used to be considered a FACT that the Earth was flat based on expert's findings. The arrogance of armchair scientists is mind numbing sometimes.

    Yes...they are. So are incandescent bulbs as well as a host of other home staples. Which is why you would need dual wiring for Khyber's utopia. Unless you are going to go out and swap out the breaker anytime your family decides they want to plug in a lamp where the laptop currently is. Or just replace all your bulbs with LED's and all your electric motors with Stepper motors.

    Electric != electronic

    I don't know of any electronic device that isn't DC based. Most, however, are designed to accommodate the AC delivery system we've used for the last century.

    BTW...Is your house wired for DC or would you need to run all new outlets for the 12V native devices? If, I suspect, it's the latter which is easier, converting DC to AC and running through the existing wiring in the house or running a separate line to every place in the house an outlet is already located? Because both are going to be equally expensive but one will be substantially more invasive and time consuming.

    Don't get me wrong...I'm an advocate for DC in the home I'm just realistic when looking at existing infrastructure.

    You still have to convert the energy from DC to AC so your DC appliances with AC2DC converters can plug into the wall. Damn you Tesla!

    Depends on what you define as market share and what market you are referring to. Back then even though the PC was clearly pulling ahead the race wasn't entirely over. The Atari ST while never getting a foothold in the US was very popular in the UK.

    It's the technological equivalent of ignoring a 'do not enter' sign, rather than the actual bypassing of security

    I think it's more akin to you telling your GPS you want to go to Wendy's but YOU installed a hack on your GPS to redirect you to Wendie's instead. The hack of course was provided to you by Wendie's
