I'm guessing you haven't noticed the proliferation of outpatient clinics. Many of which don't even have a doctor on staff. They outfit the place with a nurse practitioner and usually a couple of RN, LPN, or LVN's to treat a wide range of medical maladies.
A growing percentage of our GDP is going to taking care of senior citizens.
A growing percentage of our GDP is going to health care.
A growing percentage of our GDP is going to the military.
Either find ways to spend less on the above, increase income dramatically or deal with decreasing other services. Fourth option is a combinationation of the first three. I see no other choices.
You've done most of the heavy lifting for me so thank you for that. My solution would address all three issues you cited simultaneously.
Reinstate the draft for anyone over 65 and put them on the front lines of any major conflicts.
Many will see the humor...many more will be appalled at the notion...but the truly "touched" will be marketing this to their representative.
Microsoft has been threatening to sue hardware OEMs that sell devices loaded with Android despite the fact Google/Linus own the licenses of the software Microsoft is alleging infringe on their IP. If Motorola/Google can get Microsoft into a cross-licensing deal it would indemnify anyone using Android and Microsoft couldn't nickel and dime each and every OEM. I'd say it was to be expected.
What would you do if a bully was scaring and shaking down all of your customers?
These court ordered blockades are simply seen by the network as damage that the network was designed to be able to work around. If Paul Baran hadn't spearheaded this effort at RAND the original AT&T would most likely still own America with its central office.
It was ASSUMED based on OBSERVATIONS using the tools available at the time. Just as it is ASSUMED the universe is X number of years old based on the tools we now have. That number could and probably will change as our tools/understanding improve provided we survive the zombie apocalypse..
Who's facts are we using for this conversation? There are lots of theories based on perception of observations and even more conjecture based on rumors and innuendo but not much in the facts dept. Remember...it used to be considered a FACT that the Earth was flat based on expert's findings. The arrogance of armchair scientists is mind numbing sometimes.
Yes...they are. So are incandescent bulbs as well as a host of other home staples. Which is why you would need dual wiring for Khyber's utopia. Unless you are going to go out and swap out the breaker anytime your family decides they want to plug in a lamp where the laptop currently is. Or just replace all your bulbs with LED's and all your electric motors with Stepper motors.
Even with the "Damn you Tesla!" hint that it was a lighthearted joke you managed a major league WHOOOOSH
I don't know of any electronic device that isn't DC based. Most, however, are designed to accommodate the AC delivery system we've used for the last century.
BTW...Is your house wired for DC or would you need to run all new outlets for the 12V native devices? If, I suspect, it's the latter which is easier, converting DC to AC and running through the existing wiring in the house or running a separate line to every place in the house an outlet is already located? Because both are going to be equally expensive but one will be substantially more invasive and time consuming.
Don't get me wrong...I'm an advocate for DC in the home I'm just realistic when looking at existing infrastructure.
Maybe something like George Carlin proposed for driving. Give everybody a dart gun when they get their drivers license and when they see somebody driving badly shoot the trunk. When there are enough darts the police pull you over.
Depends on what you define as market share and what market you are referring to. Back then even though the PC was clearly pulling ahead the race wasn't entirely over. The Atari ST while never getting a foothold in the US was very popular in the UK.
You sir have a bright future as a politician. Calling a penalty a tax credit is akin to calling a smaller tax increase than you originally wanted a tax cut.
It's the technological equivalent of ignoring a 'do not enter' sign, rather than the actual bypassing of security
I think it's more akin to you telling your GPS you want to go to Wendy's but YOU installed a hack on your GPS to redirect you to Wendie's instead. The hack of course was provided to you by Wendie's
Now, please, lets move on from the poor hyphenation, and get back to the article at hand shall we? I am sure it has much more interest to the community at large compared to my poor grammar. The last reason I submitted this was to start a (at this time) thirty post thread on the ambiguity of how the headline can be read or misread.

civilian instruments in space are dwindling
Are you sure about that?
I remember when Microsoft was the refreshing, freedom-loving alternative to Big Blue.
My how times have changed.
I am intrigued by your ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter. /s
Here ya GO. Be sure and pick a spot where you can get at the reset button.
Obligatory XKCD reference.

Most electric motors are AC based.

Electric != electronic
WOW!

You still have to convert the energy from DC to AC so your DC appliances with AC2DC converters can plug into the wall. Damn you Tesla!
OK, I've completed ME3 and am still clueless as to how my comment gave away the ending in any way, shape, or form...
Starting another play-through to see if going all rogue makes a difference.
Which is little comfort for Dan Quayle
Why didn't they just put Windows XP on it? Then it would be *really* useful and have one clear advantage over every other phone.
You mean like THIS?
"Tons of thousands of internet application"

Remember Rock Band and Guitar Hero? I kept waiting for a version that would gradually teach you to play an actual guitar.
Your wait is over

OH...and Wendy's gave you the GPS which only tells you how to get to Wendy's of course.

You must be new here...
The Back To The Future franchise was rife with monetization
Interesting...I Guess I'll know what the fuss is about when I get there then.
