I'm not sure if it's worth the money for most, but I've been really enjoying mine so far.
The PDF reader works great for things like academic papers as long as moderately small fonts aren't a problem. Large PDF books don't work quite as well because links don't work on PDF in the current version. Some PDF slide decks work well, depending on the formatting - colored text on black background doesn't render well.
The built-in browser is OK. It's a nice novelty to be able to read wikipedia on this form factor of device.
Croteam uses OpenGL as their primary renderer. They do include support for a DX8 renderer in 1.05. IIRC, the OpenGL renderer was faster than the DX8 renderer on most boards (I can't seem to find the link, though).
"Going one step further, her team then trained the monkey to simply think about a movement, without reaching out and touching the screen."
So how exactly do you train a monkey to think about doing something without doing it? I'm quite surprised that they were able to do that with the current level of communication between primates and humans.
* Linux kernel version 2.4.mumble has problems and people ask "how can this be releasable". It's not stable!
My understanding of the development process is that 2.4.whatever should be stable since that _is_ the release branch - 2.3.whatever and 2.5.whatever are the development branches. No one should expect those to be stable, but we should be able to expect the stable branch to be stable.
A friend of mine went from dual Celeron-550s (OC from 300) to a single Athlon 1GHz and he said that the system felt slower.
The gains aren't really in flat out processing speed but rather responsiveness. If you have something running that's hogging one processor, the other one can be used to respond to the user's actions.
The problem with accelerating current games is that it is very difficult to do better at high resolutions without faster RAM. The GeForce3 does implement several new features to accelerate current games, such as the Z compression, fast Z clear and so forth.
But, what the new hardware does give you is the ability to do more per memory cycle, which is key in the future.
If you automatically say that anyone who innovates is trying to take over the market, then how can we ever get change? In this case, since the API is part of DX8, any video card manufacturer can implement the features. The exact same situation occurred with multi-texture on the Voodoo2, and no-one complained about anti-competitive influences then.

I have no problem with other countries using GPS, and that was paid for by American taxpayers.
Is this case really any different?
> No 3D acceleration ?
Actually, according to PC Magazine, it has GeForce4 420 Go graphics.

"Democracy is the worst possible form of government except -- all the others that have been tried"
There is no ideal form of government, you just have to find one that works and fits.
