I agree with her that the on the spot editing may lose many photos that should not be deleted. Those other photos should make it to the news services first so they can decide if there is anything more that could be reported about. This is important as she pointed out. This is a problem that can be fixed. It has nothing to do with the digital aspect of the photography. It has everything to do with the way that the photos are stored. If digital cameras use some sort of larger storage device (storage size, not weight:), which prevented the deletion of images and allowed for more photos to be taken, it would solve the problem. While they're at it they should include a way to prevent tampering with the images. If the device did not prevent deletion, at least you could only allow deletion if the images are offloaded to some sort of archive at the news service.
What they fear is that they will no longer be able to force their own "standards" down your throat. This could be a Good Thing (tm). If Microsoft gets to the point where they are no longer able to force you into their playing field, and they are forced to follow open standards, I would have no problem with them. Case in point that was mentioned is IBM. They're no longer evil (mostly), and they are quite productive in a good way these days.
Obviously satan's influence runs deep into the state of South Carolina. How else would the state be responsible for the creation of two of the mose evil legislators on earth (Jesse Helms and Fritz Hollins). There's a reason why there aren't computers in South Carolina (Fritz's fault). There's also a reason why there aren't any artists in South Carolina (Jesse's fault - he has tried to kill the NEA over and over).
We need to send these bucktoothed hillbillies back to the caves that they came from. They shouldn't be in congress.
They should not categorize ORBZ and MAPS in the same way. I somewhat agree that a list like the ones maintained by MAPS, which are based on people's reports of where spam comes from, could be used poorly. ORBZ and such relay blockers are a different story. I understand that it is someone's right to send email. It is not their right to run an open relay. These two things are apples and oranges that happen to use the same type of software to block them. Getting off of ORBZ is easy. Fix your open relay and resubmit. This doesn't enter into another debate of whether the ORBZ automated testers are stealing resources, but I really haven't decided what I think about that yet.
SoundForge like software is good and all, but what you really need to write music is something like Logic Audio Platinum by emagic. It really is one of the best, except for ProTools. If you can't match the features of one of those two (or convince them to release a linux version), you will get nowhere.
Professional photographers will still use polaroid film. All photographers that use standard film, shoot a few polaroids before they shoot their normal film. Its to save money, and be able to get the lighting right. You can't get a digital camera into this, since polaroid makes film the goes right in the same spot as standard film in professional cameras.
It is interesting that everyone here on Slashdot is actually noticing that their representatives in Congress don't listen to you. I've noticed this for years, after sending many letters to representatives, all I've ever gotten were crappy form auto-replies. Its amazing that more evil laws have not been passed.
Linking driver's license data between states does not make for a national ID card. You are not required to get a driver's license, nor are you required to get a walker's ID. You are not required to get any sort of ID right now, and that's the way it should stay.
I have a nextel phone. I was not able to make calls at all the whole day of the 11th. The private two-way radio, however, worked just fine. The only drawback is you are only able to reach other nextel subscribers.
Slashdot is a blight to the Open Source community. There are so many
inappropriately over reactive readers that patrol this site. When an
issue that really needs mature advocates surfaces here on Slashdot, all
the scum here ruin the community's image in a big way right when it would
hurt the most. Especially when you are pointing this stupidity at a
journalist. Journalists should always be treated with respect. If you
do, and they are not on your side, you can stand a chance of changing
their views and bringing them onto your side. In the least they will be
more likely to publish a non-biased story. This same thing holds true
when communicating to a congressman or senator or other government
official. They are not likely to champion any of the community's causes
if the community comes off as a bunch of immature idiots.
A site that is running Apache can also spread nimda. If the site that is served by Apache is served in some idiot's development environment under IIS, and the site is moved out to an Apache server, the nimda worm that embeds itself as a javascript in the web pages, can be spread from the Apache server (duh!). This also only works, if you move the.eml file with the html file.
Why on earth would you post links to their main ftp server here on slashdot. Wasn't linking to their list of mirrors enough? Their ftp servers are pretty much unreachable.
The metro has diverted the all the bus routes that went to the Pentagon over to the Pentagon City metro station. I take that route every day, and I was at the pentagon station 30 minutes before the crash on my way to work. This morning, going to work, the bus went through the cloud of smoke from the fire at the Pentagon. Down in the metro there was a haze of smoke in the air coming up the tube from the Pentagon station.

Doesn't this sort of discussion belong somewhere other than slashdot? Who cares whether you should use datacenter or not?
Hopefully they will destroy each other.

This is great news. They are a much better organization than WinDriver (division of Microsoft).
Oh no! Somebody set up us the bomb!
All your face are belong to us!
All your base are belong to us!
Oh, No! Somebody set up us the bomb!
I've had one drive crap out that was a 75G. I also had a 30G crap out in the same way.

I'm sure that someone out there has patented ROT13 and XOR. Why not patent ROT14? Even better, why not patent ROT26? Then you could sue everyone!
A really well thought out paper against facial recognition systems in public places can be found here.
It makes all the problems with public facial recognition quite clear.

Linux just lost ALL of their brownie points in one fell swoop. I hope this puts RedHat out of business. You stinking stupid thieves!
Who knows what other code RedHat has plagiarized! Does it stop here?
We should spill the blood of these plagiarists!

Good to see that a crufty evil distro like RedHat is losing money.
Thank you for not linking directly to the ftp server here on slashdot!

Why bother making quality software? Why not push out the minimum that the requirements document asks for?
