This is where one of the most fundamental things to _own_ not rent comes into play. If you own a house and land (I'm not talking about all the Frontpage monkeys with mortgages out their ass), you have somewhere to fall back on. This is one of the basic principles, but it only works if you actually own it, not with a bank as co-owner.
This reminds me of one of the Works in Progress papers from the this year's USENIX security symposium on Villain-to-Victim.
Basically you store data by sending off an icmp echo request containing arbitrary data to a site or sites that you know have slow links and wait for it to come back. You are using the routers etc in between as a storage medium.
Or you just slap these lines in your make.conf:
SUP_UPDATE= yes
SUP=/usr/local/bin/cvsup
SUPFLAGS= -g -L 2
SUPHOST= cvsup11.freebsd.org
SUPFILE=/root/stable-supfile
PORTSSUPFILE=/root/ports-supfile
DOCSUPFILE=/root/doc-supfile
and type "make update" in the/usr/src directory.
It will update everything in one fell swoop src, ports, and doc.

Pointy haired bosses can't tell the difference from one x86 unix to the next. Just make sure that everything that says FreeBSD in the login screen and motd is changed to say linux and you'll be fine. If you have approval for linux, just install FreeBSD or OpenBSD and don't tell him/her:)
I have not used Kapersky, but I would swear by Sophos antivirus. It is quite easy to grab up to the minute virus IDE's from their website with fetch running in a cron job.
This is old news. These things have been around for a while. Above.net uses them as an interim UPS system for their NOCs before the generators kick in.
If some poor punk kid had gotten caught spraypainting something like that, they would have been arrested, and spent time in jail. City governments get really pissed about grafitti. I think it would be stupid for IBM to get preferential treatment simply because they are a corporation. I think everyone at IBM should spend a night in jail.
Fox News is just tabloid journalism. There is nothing wrong with tabloid journalism except for this partcular show masquerading as a legitimate news show. Some of their "special reports" are pretty funny though. A few weeks ago they ran a story about how fireplaces and wood smoke can cause cancer (duh). One of the reporters on the show couldn't keep a straight face.
If I want to get real news, I watch a different station. If I want a good laugh, I watch Fox News, or Action News Channel 8 (they're a low budget version of Fox, here in DC).
Just support the application in FreeBSD. From one FreeBSD machine to the next within one version of FreeBSD, all the libraries are going to be the same. Exactly the same. Also, if there are a selection of different boxes that you want to install on and they are different versions then use cvsup to bring them all to the same point on the source tree and you'll have a set of identical boxen.
FreeBSD already has something similar and a bit more useful. There is a hypertext, cross referenced presentation of the entire CURRENT branch of the kernel. It is not quite as pretty as the image of the linux kernel:

Heh, I'm amazed that RMS hasn't started griping that FreeBSD should be called FreeGNUBSD.:) Actually programmers working on FreeBSD are encouraged to write BSD licensed versions of any GPL'd code that is used in the base install of FreeBSD.
Hmmm... The best part of that History of Searchengines is this:
"Digital Equipment Corporation's (DEC) AltaVista was a latecomer to the scene"
It doesn't look like their patents have a leg to stand on, unless they somehow bought these patents from Webcrawler.
I recently downloaded the 5.0 patches for ACLs and will be trying it out. Do you have any plans with regards to Samba and using Access Control Lists to make Samba more compatiable with NT etc? I'm quite impressed by the size of the patches -- short and to the point.
Are there any activities which will be prohibited on the StarBand service?
In consideration for all StarBand Internet users, StarBand reserves the right to limit "bandwidth hog" activities such as audio and video streaming, and automatic file exchange applications (file-sharing). See the Terms of Use of the service for more information on restricted activities.
Hmmm... Looks like they ban napster/gnutella et al.
There are a set of those domes over at the Navy Yard in Anacostia. That's just across the Potomac River in DC from Old Town Alexandria, Va. You can see them if you stand by the water near the Pepco plant in Old Town and look across the river.

SuSE is also the linux distro that the linux version of Oracle is tested and developed on.

That will work for the initial connection, but what about further connections from then on? Those username/password combos will be vulnerable.
1394 was developed by Apple in 1986.
I'm not sure where you get your information, but truth about IEEE 1394 can be found at this site.

How many times do you find yourself typing sshd???
Release another version of xpdf with the patch applied. Call it xxxpdf :)
You should get your information from the horse's mouth. Here is Rijndael's page in Belguim: http://www.esat.kuleuven.ac.be/~rijmen/rijndael/
Most USENET servers do not archive newsgroups past a certain arbitrary point, since many of them do not have the resources available to do so.

Why not migrate your Linux/PPC boxen to the powerpc port of OpenBSD?
The Objective section of his updated resume seems to sum up his objections with Apple.
