The fact that Christ never comes back doesn't deter Christians from believing he's going to Real Soon Now.
Wait, what about Jews who have been waiting for the arrival of a savior for 6,000+ years? Oh shit, this is slashdot, go ahead with the Christian-bashing.
... What can other drugs do that is in any way worse?
Meth can (after one use) destroy your brain's ability to feel happiness. It also then creates a strong psychological link between feeling good and using the drug, so most people become addicted very quickly. This is a little different than drinking one beer.
Children managed to keep in touch with their parents and let them know where they were and what htey were doing for decades prior to this without posessing cell phones.
... if Nintendo really is losing the console race so badly...
Actually, it's not as bad as the Slashbots would have you think. The XBox just recently passed the GC in worldwide sales (based on the last sales thingy I read), and I think one of the reasons of that is because the cube doesn't play DVD/CD, which was not really the smartest thing to do.
So FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, QNX, BeOS/Haiku, ReactOS, and GNU/HURD are less niche than GNU/Linux?

I guess it depends on what you mean by "success". If success means losingtons of money all the time, then yeah, the X-Box is a success. This type of financial spending is what Japanese companies in the 80s were doing, taking huge losses on products in order to get a stranglehold on the market.
sorry but I played at least 12 different games that were blockbusters on my DS the day I got it.
Really? In this article I counted 11 launch titles, with one from Nintendo (I'm not counting Pictochat or the Metroid demo) and 10 from third party companies. I guess you could get 12 out of that, if you include Pictochat or the Metroid demo (or you live in Japan, I don't know about launch titles there), but that would mean that EVERY launch game is a "blockbuster", and that you either know a lot of people that have a DS, or you spent nearly $500 dollars on launch day, which doesn't seem reasonable for the average/.'er (or sane gamer).
This didn't have anything to do with the console (logic) itself, but with the way that the catridge connection was designed. Nintendo made a huge effort to make sure that the NES in America wasn't perceived as the "toy" that the Famicom looked like in Japan, so they made it look more like a VCR. The "zero insertion force" connections were very susceptible to dust, though, so it got the reputation of being unreliable. Mine still works, though.
Oddly enough, the first console I had to send back to the manufacturer was a Gamecube. It was a first-run model, though, so I guess it's to be expected nowadays (sadly). All my other Nintendo consoles still work (even the NES).
I love how everything that is critical (no matter how just the claims are and how well they are written) gets modded down here. And then we get +5 funny "in soviet korea" garbage.:P
The troll logic here really is so stupid that I have to bite. Sorry, common sense, I apologize.
Isn't it 2005? If you're going to refute the parent, at least get some recent sales numbers
Isn't it 2005? If you're going to refute the parent, at least use some brainpower. I know that it's been 2005 for almost, 0M6, 2 D4Yz0RZ now, and I'm sure your 31337ness gives you access to NPD's live feeds or something, but I'll go with what's been published. The article also points out the stigma that Nintendo faces in the press, that which makes no sense.
It seems like MS has been moving quite a few units during the holidays
This is an interesting statement. You accuse me of using out-of-date data, and yet you fail to provide any link to a source that would back up your claim.
it's very difficult to get accurate sales figures in regards to consoles.
Yeah, there's no way to add up the total numbers of how many units are sold. No company would ever attempt to do that.
(sig)--> I hate liberals. If you are a liberal, do not reply.
Oh crap, I posted a link on/. . My bad, I forgot 99% of people don't RTFA. The article points out that the reason businesses drop support for Nintendo is because of the huge stigma that is leveraged toward them in the press.
The PlayStation series has always been a bigger seller.
The Playstation consoles have been bigger sellers WORLDWIDE, but only during their existence. I would doubt, however, that they sold better during the NES and early SNES days.
...Loki is closed. Thanks for your patronage. Tried & failed already.
Yeah, I can see how ONE company failing is indicative of the whole "linux game company" game. Loki failed, so OMG L00NiX GAM35 R T3H D00M3D!11.
Why pay when Linux users use a free OS. Everybody expects their games to be free.
Yeah, I notice tons of comments on/. all the time expressing how game companies should open source their code. Oh wait... maybe not. And also, companies like iD have released the engine code for their old games, which is what I think ALL software companies should do when their code is no longer financially useful.
So by seeding malicious files, the xxAA is saying that none of the users downloading those files could possibly be legally downloading the ones that they are offering. I beg to differ.
[anecdote] I once bought a CD. I lost the CD, but I still had the case and felt that it was OK to download some "backup" MP3s of the CD. I later bought another copy of it, but the fact remains that I used a p2p service (downloading copyrighted files) and I was completely in the clear. [/anecdote]
In spirit, it's an anti-free market initiative
Yeah, free markets are ones where the companies on top are there because they got to the patent office first, not because of a better product/service.
... equal protection makes your desire [unconstitutional]
No, it doesn't. What you're saying is that (for example) anyone caught with drugs should be prosecuted with "intent to sell".
The fact that Christ never comes back doesn't deter Christians from believing he's going to Real Soon Now.

We're not talking about dual-core Playstations, dude.
Um, a model is someone who is hired to be looked at. I don't see how this is different.
BTW, I don't think Bush would be raptured. Giving to the rich and stealing from the poor does not seem very Christian to me.

they just don't want people judging them by prerelease software and getting the wrong impression.
Either that or they really dislike people breaking their NDAs.
GNU/Linux, currently the ultimate niche product.

Nintendo Hardware = Tank.

[Nintendo is] not selling as well as Xbox and PS2 stuff.
Hmm, really? The numbers disagree
So code a version that works with it, troll.
