Well, some of the drivers that come with X (x.org/XFree) support 3D, but only for documented cards (I think Intel does this) and older "performance" cards. I believe the newest x.org actually supports (3D) some of the older Radeons.
Oh, I definitely agree that graphics & sound are important in a game. I just think that the importance MS is putting on them is not a good idea. For one thing, you get slick-looking games that are either crappy (first-gen PS2 games come to mind) or pretty-much-rehashed with more shinies added (Halo [2]).
I dunno if animated movies are really a good comparison to games. Pixar (and old-school Disney) is good at creating the illusion of reality, or at least realistic...something or other (i'm tired:P). Games don't always need this. (yeah, I know, some do, especially if they are trying to create a believeable "world")
Come to think of it, Wikipedia is basically Slashdot in encyclopedia form. You have a bunch of anonymous zealots who think they know what they're talking about and who will debate you with non-arguments until you give up. The only difference is that on Wikipedia, the people writing the articles have to at least attempt to remain neutral, if only to avoid a "biased" tag on the page.
I don't think our comments invalidate each other. I was just trying to point out something that seems to be missed by most people when there is discussion of his antics.
The thing is, good writing shouldn't need a header every 1-2 paragraphs. If I picked up a 300 page book and there was as much whitespace as content, I would probably burn it within 5 minutes. The layout of this article isn't that bad because it's not really that long. There aren't too many main ideas discussed.
The problem here is that it doesn't flow naturally. It discusses one idea for a while, and then we get several headings with one-paragraph texts that scream at me: "oh hey, here's two or three semi-related ideas that I didn't bother to integrate with the rest of the text". With some editing and revision (along with, like, an editor, or at least someone else looking it over), nearly all of the extra headings could've been scrapped.
I think that there is a perfectly, ahem, logical explanation for this. If Mr. Thompson is seen consistently saying things that are absolutely false, it makes him appear crazy. Mr. Thompson knows this. Being a lawyer, he knows what is needed to prove someone guilty of slander or libel. If a person consistently makes untrue statements, it is actually harder to prosecute them for these charges, because it is harder to prove that a person who acts like this actually knew that he was lying. It's the only way to avoid being sued by nearly every videogame company and trade organization in the US. For another example, see someone like Bill O'Reilly.
... and its graphics quality/detail is simply amazing.
This isn't a dig on you, but yeah, that's exactly what I want: a graphical masterpiece. I'd be especially pumped if it was a sequel to ET for the 2600. Unfortunately, graphics sell (and thankfully we have the justifiable term "nerd porn").
The Dreamcast had a much better lineup over the first ~2 years than the PS2 did, but that didn't stop the FUD from Sony killing the little white box that could(n't).
A well-maintained WinXP installation with antivirus installed still boots in the 30 second range on a P4 with a decent amount of RAM.
Wait, so you're saying that your XP install boots, logs in, and loads all the background stuff you use (AV, networking, bonzi, etc) in 30 seconds? I find that hard to believe.
I'm a pretty good grammar checker, and seeing as how I've just placed version 1.4.3 of myself under the BSD license, I can integrate into OO perfectly!
Actually the head of the religion department came to the college 1953 and tried to teach evolution,
Yeah, my science teacher in Junior High taught evolution and was a Christian as well. I was skeptical about it then (mostly due to my mother) but I know generally think it's the best model we've got...
Maybe you should write "love thy neighbor" 1000 times after sunday school.
Yeah, I'm really going to take you seriously. Can it, troll. And shut up with the "OMG ur the troll!11" reply: I'm just really pissed off that people can't let others live with whatever religious choice they want without trying to shove it down other peoples' throats. If I'm coming off as a troll, I apologize.
And as an aside, Jesus said some pretty bold things. ("Get behind me, Satan!")
I thought that the Resident Evil movies were pretty good, but I like cheesy horror movies, so maybe that's why...
i take it you think people should be rewarded for asking stupid questions, doing no research, and not following guidelines?
How do you think I ever manage a +5 Insightful?
Or you could buy the game from somewhere like Tuxgames
Yeah, I realized that after I posted it :P

I tried http://www.whitehouse.com/ but that seemed to be something WAY different than what you're talking about...
Dude, he's from Minnesota. How can he not be awesome?
PS: THIS IS A JOKE. Aside from his opinions about the RIAA, the guy's pretty much an asshole.

It seems that with this man logic doesn't work.

Slander/Libel? Unfortunately, it probably couldn't be proved (that he knew he was lying), but the UK does have pretty aggressive laws in these areas.

"Pretty much fact"? What does that mean? Either it is a fact or it isn't. Since Sony hasn't said, it isn't.
"Hey, I heard you're pregnant. Is it true?"
"Pretty much"
hahaha.

My brain just threw up a flag for the "it". Yeah, I'm niggling stupid issues.
And how much are the people that farm your gold getting paid?

I've played around with the LinkGrammar parser that they've based it on before, ...
Wow, slashdot could use one, too. No but seriously, I read this and thought "wait WTF, are they basing the grammar checker off of something else now?
NEWS FLASH: Water still wet! Details at 11
My mother-in law had this elephant. My wife had it as a child.
Wait, so your mother-in-law and wife gave birth to the same stuffed animal?!?!??!
