A business' duty is to honor the contracts they sign.
Yep. And that contract probably has 'outs' for both sides. Amazon fails to deliver service at a certain level, customer won't have to pay. Customer site violates laws or uses excessive traffic etc, Amazon can refund their money and dump them.
Point is, you'll still be sitting around hoping and waiting. The LP isn't perfect, but I think its better and I'm out doing something about it.
I'd welcome the chance to have my LP candidate debating your 4th party candidate, but it won't happen if we keep sitting around bitching about the two old parties and not doing anything about it.
I heard this on the radio and there was some noise about Comcast losing cable TV business. WAAAAA! If I'm paying you to provide me with internet and I'm doing so in preference to paying you for TV maybe you should take that as a sign that your customers want generic internet access instead of cable TV. Instead Comcast sees its own business as a threat to itself and then tries to get someone else to pay for it. Netflix has a good reputation, but they aren't going to just eat this cost either.
Do you understand why someone might see your actions as dangerous?
Texting while driving involves: 1. Some level of concentration to locate phone. Either by feel or sight 2. Activate, arm, open, phone text messaging application. Again possibly by feel, but still requires some effort. 3. Look at phone to read text message 4. Type text message, most people have to look 5. Hit send 6. Close or stow phone
Taking a picture while driving involves: 1. Locating your camera 2. Taking a lens cover off or waking camera from sleep 3. Looking, possibly at the camera, to line up the shot 4. Taking the shot 5. Verify/retake the shot 6. Close, sleep, stow the camera
You're performing the same steps. You still have to devote some level of concentration to dealing with the camera that you should be using for driving.
I don't expect you to agree with me, but can you at least understand why some of us might see what you're doing as dangerous?
If this is satire or a troll. I tip my hat to you, its a doozy.
+1 at parent. Thanks for the reminder about CPR, I need to renew my Red Cross training. It'll look good next to my concealed carry permit.
A gun isn't for everyone and there are places you still aren't legally allowed to carry one. You need to have a plan for when the shit hits the fan. More often than not this is just being calm and knowing some basic first aid. Its not all goblins and robbers and boogeymen.
I hear good things about the NRA "Refuse To Be A Victim" seminars. Despite being NRA they aren't firearms focused. They're about being prepared for the rare event when things go bad so that you aren't a victim. Spotting trouble before it happens and having a plan.
So how is you driving down the road using a camera any less dangerous than texting? How is it that you paying so much attention to what the drivers in other cars are doing not distracting you from your own driving?
"I only do X in the car when its safe" is bullshit. You're driving a relatively heavy machine in an open environment. Its always dangerous. You always need to keep your head on a swivel. Control what you can.
See someone driving dangerously? Either drop back and leave them room, move over a lane and leave room, or use the accelerator and put 'em in your mirrors. Don't be a nanny and exacerbate the situation. You aren't the police and you aren't their mother.
I think even the now disappearing "basic phones" have some sort of phone book/directory function. That's not mentioned in the summary. Also, I see it has no display of any kind. That is pretty bad. Even if this were an "anti-smartphone" there should be some sort of confirmation of the numbers pressed. That's just silly.
You mean like all those phones made between 1900 and 1989 that only clicked or beeped? Even then you had to have your ear to the speaker.
Yep. This is all part of that "stealth development" the article was talking about. Got me a six digit UID back in the late 90's, posted to/. for years to get my Karma up, and then BLAMMO a decade and a half-later, rolling in the big bucks posting slashvertisements. You caught me.
RockMelt is the first "social" app thats actually made me want to use it. I'm on Facebook frequently during the day, I work from home so FB is my "watercooler". So its nice to check it, quickly, once every few hours. RockMelt helps me do this quickly, I get my social fix and get back to my job.
I also follow several blogs and tech sites, they usually get skimmed over lunch or in the evenings RockMelt actually has an RSS mechanism I like. It saves me time because I can see who has updates. This also lets me see a usable RSS update from my ticket tracker at work. I'm expecting this to give me a consistent experience across OS's too. No more trying to remember if the RSS feeds are in the OS X dashboard, the Windows tray, or the Gnome taskbar. Its in my damn browser in the same place.
On top of all that RockMelt is based on Chrome/Chromium, which I already used anyway.
I do need to check and see if RockMelt is using HTTPS to chatter with FB and twitter.
There are a few things to smooth over:
- videos in FB chat: can't open video in new tab, clicking it *can* make multiple audio streams play for the same link
- Minimizing the main window with a docked chat causes the chat to undock when you un-minimize
- I'd really like to be able to theme it, I find the blue unpleasant. Its close to what Outlook uses.
- I'd like the edges to autohide
- I'm missing my Gmail plugin from Chrome, I expect this to be integrated before the final release
- The double search bars are redundant. Just one url bar like chrome would be great
- The on-hover actions in the edges are largely useless conveying no new information and taking too long to show up
I'm following RockMelt on twitter and they seem responsive to issues, requests, etc. They have a big "send feedback" button and I've been using it. They don't have the sleazy veneer of "web 2.0", the pretensions of a "social" company, or the "we're too good for you" attitude of geekier outfits.
Regarding the article: la-de-fucking-da. If you reviewed a desktop browser expecting it to tie into your mobile experience you're a fucking moron. For the inevitable/.'ers that don't use FB or twitter: You probably won't like this either. I hear theres a new Fedora release, go play with that.
I'm not against these types of screenings at all. I would prefer them to pat downs or strip searches.
Lets face it. People have to be screened before the board a plane and I prefer the safety that these provide vs being a victim of someones terror. (being blown up, or being touched by a security officer)
Then refuse to be a victim YOURSELF. The authorities cannot (some would argue will not) stop every possible threat. If we can't keep drugs, shivs, shanks, cellphones, and zip guns out of prisons what makes you think we can stop threats with less than prison level security at airports?
Chap next you tries to light his shoes on fire? You punch him in the skull holler for help and don't stop until he stops being a threat. Achmed starts acting funny and pulling something out of his ass? You do what you have to do to stop the threat. Someone mugs you and seems to want more than your wallet? You fight, stab, kick, and shoot until he stops being a threat. Fall down and get injured? You had damn well better be able to patch yourself up enough to get to where you can get professional help.
You may be comfortable being a victim and relying on centralized services to be there all the time and be omniscient. I am not.
So all those Windows projects on Sourceforge aren't part of a lively community? All of the open source web projects that make sure they work on Windows browsers aren't lively?
My wife likes to point out that me playing Civ III is just about the same as her playing Farmville. The only difference is that in Civ III I get to kill people.
By "bundle" all they really need to do is what Sun did with the Java installer. During the "stare at the progress bar" phase you get to look at a short slideshow about OpenOffice. Mozilla could do the same.

I highly doubt that diplomatic cables would contain details of a clandestine CIA operation.
Yea the ambassadors usually spill those details at cocktail parties.
A business' duty is to honor the contracts they sign.
Yep. And that contract probably has 'outs' for both sides. Amazon fails to deliver service at a certain level, customer won't have to pay. Customer site violates laws or uses excessive traffic etc, Amazon can refund their money and dump them.
So Amazon was honoring the contract.
Cheap electricity would go a long way to stabilize Africa.
Zing!

While you're sitting there hoping and waiting I'll be out campaigning for and voting for Libertarian candidates.
Instead of hoping and wishing, why not get up and help us out? We have cookies.
The customers get screwed.

It was a TracFone which is a brand of prepaid mobile phone, so it is basically unlocked.

For the inevitable
Just got a Samsung Flight (cuz it was free) from ATT BECAUSE it had microUSB. I think Samsung signed on to the USB-Everything accord.
Jokes on them, we're all broke!

a mentally unstable 13-year old girl
You can just say "13 year-old girl". Its like "lying politician" or "greedy CEO" or "scumbag lawyer".
Yea but you gotta nail 'em together in the middle to keep the raccoons out.
Warning to HP Customers - if your new HP computer looks suspiciously like a human being, do NOT attempt to plug it in - that is not a power adapter.
Ooooh. So HP isn't selling a sex box yet?
Me too I'm being productive working from home right now.....
