    Hand it over to the ITU (or similar), and every country should manage its own TLD much like they manage their own phone numbers.
    You would not register a domain with the ITU, but with your country's authority.

    Not sure, there appear to be a 3rd party app in the Windows 10 store which claims to be compatible with mobile phones. I didn't test it.
    Also it may still work with XMPP clients for basic features (text messaging).

    Wrong, hangouts is available on many platforms, not only Android.

    Google already has Hangouts, with is superior to iMessage/Facetime.

    you can use hangouts just fine on a desktop, altough a real desktop app would be better, they have a chrome extension which works pretty fine, plus you can use it within gmail which is a plus.

    Two different OS, but from a single vendor. Also from what I understand, iMessage on MacOS/iPad-without-cellular is limited if you don't have an iPhone/iPad-with-cellular.

    I agree that it is stupid to design a messaging protocol based on a phone number as an identifier. It's the main reason why WhatsApp on PC is unavailable.

    What I don't understand is that even people here on slashdot praise these crappy proprietary messaging solutions and some even use / apologize the use of one of the worst of them all, iMessage/FaceTime, which is only available on a single platform in addition to being proprietary and non standard.

    On average, paid apps are probably crappier than free apps. How many "I am rich", or paid fart apps do you need?

    I look at the apps I like and use the most. They are all free. Gmail, Google Photo, Firefox, Maps, to name a few.

    There is already the vibrating and the silent mode (with LED notification). I don't need a second device. Fitness tracking, maybe. But they already sell heart rate monitor watches without Android and they run just fine, with longer battery.

    I still don't get why I should want one. I still have to carry my phone anyways. And it can show me the time just fine, so I don't even need a watch.

    Can't you get 100% of your money back by returning it to the store? And Samsung also provides replacements.

    Uber insures all drivers in the US under a commercial insurance policy, and always has. Are you trying to claim that they work differently in Canada?

    Nope, no different in Canada. That is at least Ontario, you may need to check if they do in your section of Canada. Though I can't imagine it would be different for some reason.

    It is. Unless Uber explicitely gets an agreement with a city/province, it doesn't insure drivers in Canada. The deal with Ontario is very recent (2 months). Before that (for much of Uber's history in the province), it was the driver's responsibility to be insured. Most didn't bothered.
    There is no Canada-wide Uber-provided insurance for drivers.

    They could include both IP67 AND a headphone jack. Like Samsung, Sony, and almost all other competitors.

    And in many places, they DO NOT pay the taxes they legally have to pay.
    Canada is such one place. All taxi services much charge GST+PST. Uber doesn't. And most drivers don't have commercial insurance, taxi plates and taxi license here.
