It's a great shame that he died so young but let's be honest, this isn't exactly surprising. If you're a developer it seems this outcome is far more likely than you'll live to be happy and fit into your 80's or 90's.
You've certainly got that right - the developer's life is a dangerous one, fraught with peril. To write code is to live fast and often to die young.
Yeah, that was my reaction too - I remember in the 60s and 70s "finding a phone" was a recurrent task, and the idea that one could call from "any" point was the thing of science fiction.
Someone from the continent of Asia is Asian. Someone from the continent of Europe is European. Someone from the continent of Africa is African, and somebody from "The New World" a.k.a The Americas, is American.
This may be news to more than a few Mexicans and Canadians.

Nobody buys Playboy for the articles. They do it for the hot, nude women (sadly, sans grits). It just so happens that/. is exactly the same. No one reads/. for the articles. The articles were news two days ago. And no one reads/. for the summaries. The summaries are almost always wrong.
Everyone reads/. for the comments.
Well no, I for one read/. for the hot, nude women.
Success is not defeating the trap, it's getting the cheese.
No cheese, ergo, no success.
Exactly. Like other engineers too often I find myself focused on fixing code which sometimes can't be fixed in the allotted time, or trying to explain to management why the thing is broken. Success may involve "managing up" and diplomatically extricating yourself from blame for the situation, more than finding a way to make the project work.
If your logic is correct, that might just clean up itself nicely when more women start "doing something". Either that, or your logic is wrong, seeing as humanity survived for many millennia without women doing nothing.
I'm going to have to go with possibility two here. I believe humanity survived for many millennia "without women doing nothing". I would in fact go so far as to moot the proposition that should women begin doing nothing humanity may indeed not survive.
The rule of thumb in any Literature, Philosophy or Poly Sci class - figure out what the prof wants to hear, then tell them that.
The vast majority of the idiot profs in these courses are the middle aged people on campus who are around adolescents constantly and sometimes visibly preen when said adolescents 'admire their work' or any other endless examples of campus ass-kissing. You just tell these primma-donnas what they want to hear so you pass the course, graduate the fuck out, join the world of adults and start creating/doing things that matter.
Then again, you might also participate in the course, discover that it is actually a PoliSci class, and who knows, maybe even literally learn to spell prima donna.
Me too! I remember when I was waiting for the bus, and a guy I went to college with walked by. I knew who he was, but was totally blanking on his name. We talked awhile, he left, and 5 minutes later, "Scott" popped into my head.
And then what? Did you finally remember the guy's name?
Verizon had 119.4 million subscribers as of Q3 2013. Therefore 119.4M/202K = 0.17%. Taking into account the number of requests for the same subscriber the numbers are even better.
What is it about these numbers that you find "better"? Which numbers are "good" in the first place, let alone better? Is the NSA requesting the data of less than one fifth of one percent of Verizon's customers good? What percent would be bad? One percent? Ten percent? I am curious what your tolerance of government spying is.
What is interesting to me is not the percentage of customers on whom data was requested, but the number of requests which were reported. I am curious what prompted interest in around 200,000 customers. Are these generally people who exchanged e-mail with someone in the Middle East? Generally registered Democrats? Republicans? Foreign students? People who sent an e-mail containing the word "bomb"? What were the grounds for the majority of the requests?
If you think that's hypocrisy you should probably know about how she has a concealed carry permit despite being the most vocal anti-gun politician in the US.
Really? I always pinned it at the time when Gene Cernan made a little speech on the Moon and then we, as a species, packed up our shit and left, never to return. (There's no money in it, you see.)
Yes, that was my impression, also. The shuttle's justification was so tied into military missions, and there was so little connection to anything deep space, that it seemed to me the "space age" largely ended with the Moon missions. The Viking landers were pretty darn cool, though.
Yeah, dunno why but I still can't watch it. Turn my head every time it comes on. Just thinking there are pieces of people up there.:(
I think telemetry indicated the crew were intact and alive until they hit the water, weren't they? As I recall at least one member was conscious enough to switch on a colleague's oxygen on the way down.
She speaks fluent Spanish you know.
I think you might as well be right.

Rick Webb has an article suggesting we're in the nascent stages of transforming to a post-scarcity economy
Proof positive that 2014 will without doubt be the Year of the Linux Desktop!
I don't understand it - what's the point in falsely reporting someone dead? What do you get out of this?
And it attacks grammar to boot for Pete's sake!
Rumor has it that Alexander Graham Bell wanted everyone to answer the telephone by saying "Ahoy hoy."
Considering that much modern slang is just shortened versions of older sayings, I'd call "hoy" by itself a fair greeting.
"Hoy hoy hoy" would be (will be?) a fair greeting among pojama people.
Absolutely, man! This was my first thought also - Renault needs to make a version of The Powerful Mach 5.

moon colonies?
That would be moon "settlements" - Israel doesn't colonize, citizen.

One law for us, a different law for them.
There are numerous articles stating she used to have a concealed carry permit but no longer does, for instance http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/273989-feinstein-doesnt-have-concealed-carry-permit-anymore. Do you have more recent information that she is again carrying?
Possibly, if your dad was born before 1963 or so, or he would have remembered the Apollo 1 fire and the Apollo 13 near disaster.

It is freaky that the crew survived the explosion and floated down in the crew compartment
"Floated" down? I think the word you are looking for is "plummeted." I'd also allow "plunged."
Ditto! When I read "floated down" my first reaction was WTF?!
