For every major Windows release vendors spend a lot of time and money on new sets of drivers. My guess is that to save time and money some of them didn't rewrite their drivers from scratch for Vista, but instead migrated as much code as possible. That would let certain problems slip through the cracks, such as the kernel level security issues we've heard about.
- The process limit is 20. Anything requiring an additional process once this limit is reached, such as opening another tab, will be assigned randomly to any of the existing 20 processes.
- Frames are run within the same process as the parent window, regardless of domain. Hyperlinking from one frame to another does not change processes.
There are also some problems where valid cross-site JavaScript doesn't work. Of course it's still only a beta. Some specific details are documented by Google.
If you're bored after the first two stages, why would you move on to the third? A game is supposed to be fun. If it's not fun relatively quickly, there's no point in playing it.
Maybe you're a masochist, but apparently he's not.
I'm a web developer and no one in my small company has ever used user-agent detection in the years I've been there. The closest we've ever come is checking for what's available to the JavaScript runtime, but even that is done by checking for the existence of objects and methods rather than seeing what browser is running.
With few exceptions (and those mostly only in design considerations), coding to standards has generally worked pretty well in recent years.
I prefer to see ads so I can ignore those sites that use them in a particularly annoying way. If they are willing to annoy their users to get a few extra ad clicks they obviously aren't interested in my readership. This way the more obnoxious ads cause page views, and eventually revenue, to go down.
Internet Explorer 8 is in fact more demanding on your PC than Windows XP itself
Uh, shouldn't it be? The whole point of an OS is to be a platform for applications which do the actual final work for the end user. I would hope the browser would use more CPU and RAM than the OS core processes, otherwise that would be an incredibly inefficient OS.
No more SOAP-based Web services for your SQL Server database?
Not exactly. It means no more SOAP-based Web services directly served from your SQL Server. Now you have to go back to using a web server application like god intended.
'This is the most complicated parachute test NASA has run since the '60s'
Is any parachute test really that complicated? I RTFA (really) and it doesn't sound so bad. Can someone explain why this is the most complicated one in 40 years?
I write all of my Javascript by hand, including AJAX. Just like my HTML. With libraries like mootools it's easy. And I'm referring to large, complicated sites that take many months to build. I've never found a program that generates JS for us that I've liked. And I don't see the need when good JS is easy to create when it's done right.
It's not an issue of cheating but an issue of keeping children safe.
The minimum age for diving is even younger: 14. So it obviously has nothing to do with protecting children from the pressure of Olympic competition. Anyway, these kids start training when they're very young, often with the explicit intent of trying to get into the Olympics.
But I have no doubt that eventually the American people will demand accountability from these turds, and from anyone who enabled them.
Ha! I wish! Once these people are out of office they'll go about their happy lives bothered by no one. Their family and friends will be richer and more powerful than 8 years ago. Congress and the judicial system will do nothing and the public will demand nothing. Most will say, "Well, he's out of office, so he's not doing me harm any longer." They'll be wrong, but they'll be content.
Since the purpose of ffmpeg is to convert to/from many video formats, why isn't the conversion to Theora simply added as another codec to ffmpeg? I guess I don't understand why ffmpeg2theora needs to exist at all. (I've just used ffmpeg a few times, so I don't know too much about it, just curious.)
Sure. We'll just get one of those new-fangled web-based operating systems everyone is talking about to run in a virtual environment on top of the new GENI internet. I'm sure that'll give us full backwards compatibility to the old internet.

There are some details to Chrome's sandboxing implementation that limit its security benefits:
- The process limit is 20. Anything requiring an additional process once this limit is reached, such as opening another tab, will be assigned randomly to any of the existing 20 processes.
- Frames are run within the same process as the parent window, regardless of domain. Hyperlinking from one frame to another does not change processes.

This was a coincidence.
I don't think that word means what you think it means.

/Usenet/ /is/ /dead/.
Slashdot confirms it, so it must be true.
The problem with Bush wasn't any of the policies it was just so many people didn't like him
And that's where I stopped reading your post...
democrats are defunct on family standards
What "family standards"? And why should that matter at all to the government?
Really? I think most people would want their $130 USD back if they knew they qualified for it. It's not a lot of money, but it's not a trifle, either.

Are we going to have another fork in another year that's the anti-bloat version of Firefox?
I dub thee WaterWeasel.
I feel really old right now because I don't understand a single thing you wrote.

Give him a break. It takes a very long time to download an image over a 300 baud modem.
And I suggest you stay off his lawn.
White on light green is even harder to read.

Other than that, great post.

This is great. I just hope people don't stop once it all is made illegal.

I guess you missed the thread where Informative has become the new Funny.
