Well, everyone will know its not you when your message isnt GPG authenticated or similar. You do GPG authenticate right? You do realise email is basically a non-authenticated medium unless you do right?
Ahh good.. Cant really see what your complaining about then.
Heh. They have that here in Germany too. Theres a cheap normal option, and an expensive "green" option. Guess which one I chose?

I will grab a copy once I see it on #bookz on undernet. That way I wont pretend to like it to justify my expense. I will be able to form an objective opinion. Its open source right? Well.. I havent seen a license suggesting otherwise, and it IS about napster.
Apart from anything else, the suggestion that anyone, anywhere, is able to afford a modern shiny PC hooked up to a broadband connection, and yet not spend the money on a house big enough to sleep every member of their family is rather strange.
Well I dunno how much houses cost in your area, but I chose to spend my 1500 euros on a PC because I was about 200,000 euros short of a "house big enough to sleep my whole family".
Don't get me wrong, if I did actually want to live with my whole family, I would have bought the house...
Theres nothing special about people from Pakistan that makes them melt when they see naked bodies...
People from the East and people from the West arent really that different.
Im sure Pakistanis dig pr0n as much as anyone, and will be just as annoyed as anyone to see their government censoring them.
Germans however, are different. They really do need their censorship, that way the extremist groups can operate in secret, and not be exposed by being allowed to publish a website.
Oh I definatly agree, and so do most countries outside the USA. Since George Bush turned America into a facist war mongering empire, it has become even more dangerous than ever to rely on Microsoft software.
Setting up a back door in Windows is definatly something I could see the Bush terror regime setting up in its fight for world domination.
Yep I am glad countries around the world are switching from Microsoft to Linux.
I mean, I am all for Windows, but when it comes to developing applications for Government agencies, we really want to avoid American products.
Hell, New Zealand doesn't need to go to North America for that. Ever hear of the Maori? Maybe they should clean up their own islands first.
Actually New Zealand has no native human population, the Maori only arrived a few hundred years before the Europeans, and proceeded to make many species of wildlife extinct at a rapid rate with their slash and burn style of agriculture and the Polynesian Rat that they bought with them.
I'm pretty sure that the extremely easy access to software for windows is one of the main reasons why so many use the crap instead of free/open source software.
Easy access to windows software compared to free/open source software? What are you talking about? At work I have to use windows on the desktop but I find I do most of my work by sshing into a linux box just to get work done. Why?
A simple thing like FTP for example, to update our websites. Normally I would expect this to be part of the OS, but no. Windows ftp client is a very simple useless piece of software. I have to spend days hunting the web for something suitable. When I do find one, WSFTP or CuteFTP for example, I can only use it for 30 days then I have to pay.
On linux? apt-get install ncftp
Webcam software? Its the same.. Spent ages trying to find something for windows, found something half suitable, only worked for 30 days.
Went to linux, found that most of the software was already present, and after a 10 line perl script, I had exactly what I needed, worked much better than the windows payware.
Want to write a PDF file? People in my office needed to, asked me to find something free online. After spending a couple of hours looking for something for windows, I ended up giving them a knoppix cd.
But I guess the situation is improving, I am starting to see a few pre-cracked windows apps appearing on bittorrent, so I guess thats good news for microsoft, and the people in my office who need their software to work for more than 30 days.
And trust me, paying for software is far more abhorrent to these co-workers of mine than any piracy issues. In fact my boss always makes a joke every time someone comes in to get some software, "but you still have to pay the software company for the license to use the software". Heh.
Heh Math Club...
I was hoping the link had pictures of the people in this Math Club.
After the success of sites like rotten.com and mulletsgalore.com
I was hoping to set up a people-in-math-club.com
It also runs on Linux. Mac OS X is not even necessary:
The situation for the UNIX version of Celestia is more complicated. It certainly works on x86-based systems running Linux. As of version 1.1.3, it should also work on PPC based Linux computers as well.
Why would you want Java on a phone? Its already a pain in the ass that so many websites require it. If you really want to learn java I suggest doing it on a pc. If you really want a flash trendy cell phone, get one of those ones with color screens and cameras that let you send pics and sounds to your mates.
Don't worry about it, the temperature is nice and low, and is unlikely to overheat unless theres a malfunction. The thermal shutoff too, is only likely to come into action as a result of malfunction, not as a result of normal operation.
What absolute crap. The world isnt rich greedy corporates vs. "The People".
Its ordinary working people and the companys they work for on one side, and unproductive members of society (ie. Welfare Recipients) teamed up with the Governments who fund them on the other side.
Communism failed so get over it. Now that article has left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
But I wont bang my head against a wall I just need to comfort myself with a quick few rereads of Atlas Shrugged.
Whenever new hardware is released patience, when wating for Linux support, is a necessary virtue.
No, its not necessary at all. A much more neccessary (and more easy to obtain) virtue would be the motivation, and consideration for the open source movement that bought you linux in the first place, to attempt to actually hack up a quick driver yourself...
Debian is easier than all those cruddy rpm based distros for one main reason. apt-get handles dependancies while the rpm does not. Users of rpm based distros regularly have what I call the dependancy nightmare, particulalry when the rpm you want to install is not from exactly the same rpm based distro as you wish to install it on. One often has to chase down a dozen or so obscure libs just to satisfy the needs of some other obscure lib.
This is why Debian has the well deserved reputation for ease of use and user friendliness by the sort of people that have actually moved on from the first distro they try.
This is also reinforced by the fact that in fact debian installs are less likely to need manual post install configuration due to hardware than rpm based distros.

For those of you who have up until now been using Squeak, may be interested in upgrading to a more serious tool, now that its available.
More info here. Sorry, couldnt find any screenshots.

Hi. I would just like to say Napster sucked. The opening paragraph makes it sound like all the legends were using napster.
The legends were getting shit off IRC, and later on bittorrent, and/or trading privately amongst themselves.
Only windows kiddies (like those that use kazaa now) were using napster.
Thanks
BBC Model B basic was much much better than commodore 64 basic.
Thats just one example. The C64 basic was really weak.
Tech Support: What version of Windows are you running OpenBSD on?
Er.. X.
Tech Support: Oh you have a Mac...

What OS is the spiky fish?
Pack the big things first, then put the little things in the gaps between the big things.

Hmmm.. All the codecs I needed to make mplayer work, end in .dll and live in /usr/lib/win32. What could this mean?
Ok... Pointers to "How to write codecs for linux" then please?
Sounds like Knoppix
But your one sounds interesting too. Is it specific to running gnutella? Why do you see that as a primary use for in memory filesystems?
Gnutellas been sucking lateley though,...
