Actually most no-cd cracks are deriviative works as they are just the games original exectutable with a slight modification. So yes the crack's author is violating copyright by distributing the executable.
But he wasn't fired, infact he still isn't. He's still getting paid no less. Well maybe they have finally put him on unpaid administrative leave but last I heard they hadn't. So he is still an employee, I think he should be required to pony up the passwords. Still doesn't change the fact the city is going to have to perform a deep security audit, I personally think they should bill him for the work.
Oh god, if it RI then you were lucky to have a pc and not an abacus. Ok ok it's getting better, I mean Gtech is dragging our government kicking and screaming into the 90's.
look up "inalienable rights" and tell me that the bill of rights applies to Americans only. My god when did we stop believing in this. Why is it so hard to understand that these ideas did not come from America, America came from these ideas.
How many of them are enforced and if they were how many would hold up if prosecuted. Just because we have some silly laws on the books does not mean they can be used, several have been or would be struck down as unconstitutional (well except for sex with a porcupine). Remember we have checks and balances for a reason. Many laws we have on the books have yet to be tested, until they are they really hold no weight.
I won't mod you down or troll but I will respond with article 11 of the 1796 treaty with Tripoli
"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."
and on a side note, Why am I hearing about loyalty oaths in the USA, loyalty oaths have no place in a free society.
Possibly, I did just tear off my big toenail last night (yes it hurt), but I really don't think so.
When asked what it would take to tempt them to switch, 35% said the price of broadband would have to fall, while almost a fifth said that nothing would tempt them to upgrade
I take that to mean approximately 20% of dialup users would not upgrade while 35% they would if the price came down, then you have the 14% who can't get broadband. I don't know where rest come in and I need some pain killers.
When asked what it would take to tempt them to switch, 35% said the price of broadband would have to fall, while almost a fifth said that nothing would tempt them to upgrade, suggesting many die-hard dial-up users simply don't see the need for the higher speeds that are available.
So most want faster internet but cannot afford it, while approximately 1/5th do not want faster internet.
It certainly is interesting that the 4 major cell phone companies are charging the same for sms, especially when the price is going up. To me it sounds an awful lot like price fixing.
Actually yes it does as 95% of their profit comes from concession sales. How much do you think a theatre makes from ticket sales of a first run movie? without those "outrageous" prices, you would have no movie theatre to go to.
Or how about, Selling a Sony Handycam, and having some snotnose asshole from NetEnforcers remove your auction due to Trademark Violation. I have, not only will eBay do nothing to help you but the NetEnforcers people won't actually talk to you. So I have dings on my account cause some asshat who Sony contracts out to decides to illegally remove my auctions.
I have no way of challenging this law in the Supreme Court as it has not yet affected me. Even if I did, the Court is in no way required to here my case.
So let the bill be vetoed, why is passing a bad law better than having a better law vetoed. Can someone explain why we need this law anyway. Let's be honest here, the terrorist threat to America is the biggest hype job ever pulled on the American people. I mean we have had 2 major terrorist attempts on American soil (on the same building even) from foreign nationals in what, our entire histoy. Their is enough questionable information regarding 9/11 that I don't think we will ever truely know what happened or who was involved.
But that day was also the day the 4th went from a celebration to a time of mourning.
So how are you going to void your warranty any quicker on a Mac then on a PC? You do know it is illegal for them to void your warranty due to upgrading memory or hard drive(or video card, modem, or any other replaceable part). Or are you just acting the troll like several others passing the same FUD on this thread. Or are you worried that if you break the machine you will be responsible, well it is the same with a Dell, an HP, a Sony, as well as an Apple. If you break it while trying to seat memory or replace the HD then guess what, you broke it, warranty's cover defects or hardware failures not acts of clumsiness (unless you get one of those fancy notebook warranties that cover user damage).

Oh please Italy has had RI since before I was born.
That would probably get you arrested for blackmail.
Oh god, if it RI then you were lucky to have a pc and not an abacus. Ok ok it's getting better, I mean Gtech is dragging our government kicking and screaming into the 90's.
Wow, thats almost worse, I wonder how much time they spent performing a security audit after that. Your MOTD sounds very much like a taunt.

Majority my ass, when did 1/5th become a majority.
Quite the misleading headline.

and more importantly what's that in Kongbucks?

I think a better description regarding copyright is "because the data is encrypted it is not distribution"

Luckily I don't pay my electric bill.
A true slashdot stereotype.
Let me guess, late 20's and parents basement.
Sweeet, But what does he win?
If they pirated your game are they really your customers?
Never have, we live in a representative republic.
Well, I used the soap box, but no one listened.
I then used the ballot box, but I was betrayed.
Now They have taken the jury box from me.
Only one box left.
