As somebody pointed out already, it's the business community.
It goes to explain Cuba too - imagine the catastrophe that would befall the Hawaiian tourist industry the day Cuba opens up to Americans, a quickie 45-minute flight from Miami. Without billions at stake over in Aloha-land, I can guarantee you some of those people have flown in to Washington to "take care" of a few things.
It's simple, really. People in China don't really give a damn about who's in charge anymore, since the new state religion is money and capitalism. And the folks currently in charge certainly aren't getting too much into the way of people making a quick buck (or yuan) here and there. To get rich is to be glorious.
What good would a PhD in the sciences be from a Chinese university?
You must have not been to US colleges in the last 10 years or so. Probably up to half of all Masters and PhD's for the sciences and engineering in all top US colleges and universities (and the not so top ones) go to students from China (and the other half mostly to India and Russia). These folks have enough academic acumin to turn out your lights - they don't know the meaning of "hard work."
Civilization III, for example - if you read the civilopedia entries for the many concepts/ideas in the game, their descriptions are definitely not very right-wing.
But to be fair, they do let you randomly drop nukes on people.
If some goverment functionary wants to snoop through my ISPs records to see that I spend 80% of my time online surfing for porn let them have at it...I am not going to worry about it because the courts will settle it.
So you also don't mind if they hold you as a "material witness" during the course of their investigation? You don't mind floating the bill for your lawyer? And if you can't afford one (of course the state will provide you with a very competent one to stand for your defense), what about all the time you lose at your job or with your family? Or the unnecessary embarrassment - who's going to hire you from now on? Your name has now been stained unneedingly.
If you want to go through all of that over nothing, be my guest.
I visit the Seattle Public Library system on a regular basis. Other than books that you can read for free sitting for an afternoon at Barnes and Nobles anyways, there isn't much of a selection. It's better to just go to the Univ. of Washington library for research materials. I only go to the public library for DVDs and CDs. (A lot of funding goes into these things. I know this guy who makes a requests to the library system to buy CDs that he likes, and they buy pretty much everything he requests. Go figure.)
Go to the dentist. if they start something prior to discharge, they will complete it at the VA, even if it takes years... and civilian dental insurance is often not included in job insurance packages.
I would probably suggest the same about general medical; hit the docs NOW with any persisting problems you might be having.
I thought libertarians like to spend their own bucks on everything?

What about classical music? You can't just randomly shuffle symphonies or sonatas or whatnot out of order. I guess this only applies to all other types of music.
Sounds good on paper, sure. But on your next trip to Hawaii, they hold you at the airport for...get this - reading Slashdot! Slashdot does contain quite a number of posts which would be considered by Ashcroft & Co. to be "anti-American."
This guy at the University of Idaho got arrested because some Islamic extremists posted pro-Hamas and whatnot comments on his website. So he got arrested based on comments posted by users of his website (and plus his being from Saudi Arabia doesn't help either). Granted, he most likely had some other stuff going on (wiring money to terrorist orgs, etc.), but the thing that got this guy on the fed's blacklist was his website.
So if you're willing to put up with a 2, 3-hr delay as the feds figure out if you are "associated" with the "militant" comments posted on Slashdot, be my guest.

OK. OK. Here's what the frugal on Slashdot REALLY want to see:

That is funny. If I remember correctly, this was from Data East's Bad Dudes and Dragonninja (I played it on MAME a couple of days ago)

These people wanted $15 for a Linux driver, with no guarantees of free upgrades in the event of a kernel update.
I just went and bought a serial port external modem for $13 (shipped). Works like a charm.

That's a GREAT idea! Some folks in the San Fernando valley may want to buy the option for that script.

For once, you can be sure the adult entertainment industry did not spawn the need for this invention.

So do people like Chow Yun Fat, John Woo, and Roman Polanski come here on H1-B visas too?
