If we have less brands to choose from, the other ones won't have any reason to keep their prices low. So everything will get more and more expensive in no time, while the PC market will continue to shrink.
if you really want to give him a 'real' computer, how about an old eeepc 701? It's cheap, won't break easily, the size and the weight are right for a 7-year old and you can simply install some educational Linux distro to get him started.
that may be true, but since WP has next to none user adoption, they will have to bring something new to the table if they want those phones to sell, right?
It doesn't even matter if it runs on iOS, Android or whatever. My brother actually bought into the hype and got himself a Galaxy Tab but had to sell it after about 3 months because he wasn't using it for anything other than occasional web browsing. The 'cool' factor wears off very quickly. Netbooks were better. At least those were still 'real' computers.
That is correct. Older higher-end Thinkpads had like 1600x1200 or 1440x1050 even on smaller screens, like 14" and that was back in 2002-2003, so, by now everyone should have caught up as parts became cheaper(they did, right?). But it's 2012, and the standards haven't been raised by much. Maybe the arrival of the new iPad will improve things...

*Steam, FTFY.
You don't.
There were a few http://www.neowin.net/news/nokia-has-made-its-final-phone-in-its-native-finland . Right up until Mid-2012 and I'm sure they're are/were not the only ones.
The patch was from Igno or Ingo?
or, let me reformulate-why is this on science.slashdot.org? what science? the science of cooking? it would have been ok if it were on 'idle', I guess.
Why is this on slashdot?
He was driving on a Bundesstraße or Landstraße, where a speed limit applies (in this case, 100km/h).
Murrica, hell yea!
It's a Waldorf school..that pretty much says it all.

"[x] High-Value" - That's pretty subjective.

Nothing new here (see Guttenberg's and Schavan's case in Germany or Grasser in Austria).
Seriously, who does? Why is this on Slashdot? It's not like Romania is relevant in world politics..
I knew it all along! My brain goes numb just by watching it.
They should have done that from the beginning.

oh, my mistake. I saw that chrome logo, tried it in opera and it didn't work. I'm also too lazy to open safari just for that.
It's Chrome-only.
Maybe they're just upgrading their servers and something wrong..
