    That could be related to the hardware acceleration. If I had to guess, the Windows desktop would need to wait for the game to release it's GPU resources and load its own in to the GPU memory.

    Back in the XP days, going from game to desktop was very quick, but going from desktop back to game was very slow. When Vista came along, the Os started using the GPU to accelerate the desktop. Made it slow both ways

    Those conditions are from 2014 but you can be sure there were similar provisions back in 1998. Probably back as far as Eastlink has been providing telephone service in the 70s.

    I thought it was systemd because boottime!
    initd was a bit shit at starting services in parallel

    I know it's been worth my while using it. My 'workhorse' linux machine has saved seconds off the only boot it's done in the last 4 months.

    Wheel chair accessible vehicles cost more to buy, more to maintain and cost more to run (assuming a typical van outfitted with wheel chair ramps uses more fuel and an an average car).

    I'm all for accessibility, but you have to be reasonable. Wheel chair conversions cost between $10k and $20k according to 1800wheelchair.com. On top of that you have to buy a big van and you lose the passenger capacity advantage a van has.
