  4. Consumer vs Commercial Electronics on Extended Warranty Purchases Up 10% This Year · · Score: 1

A good portion of my job is to asset risk and advise on extended coverage and warranty enhancements for small/medium and enterprise businesses on there fleet of servers, desktops, laptops etc. From what I know from that and what I see I tend to only buy warranty on electronics that I spent a fair bit on and that I would be inconvienced if they were to fail.

You have to look at it how important is the device to you, how long to you expect to be using, and of course how much would it cost to replace the unit completely.

In business when it comes to servers for example you have to figure out how critical the server functions are, how long of a life the server is expected to have as well as the cost impact to the company if that server was to go down. Its the last one that usually has the most impact to a client, especially when they compare the cost of it down for a hour to how much the enhanced warranty is. Of course things like a test/dev server would likely get a reduced warranty compared to an exchange server or a domain controller.

Just take the general idea there and apply it to your own purchasing habits. Extended warranty on a cell phone... what you are fucking stupid will you even want that phone in a year after the newest of the new comes out? A TV or washer dryer that you want to last for 5+ years, I think its a good idea.

Be smart about it, listen to the salesman, ignore his pitch but listen to the details, what does this warranty do for you.

I'd like to see how easy it is for replacement. doesnt look like there is a lot of room for other bits as well. I only saw a 1U model but do these guys have the same gear for larger more beefy servers? How about blades?

lastly how much does one of these things weigh?

The amount of Rock Band parties that friends have and friends who arent gamers have had is astounding, when you go to bar and they have a Rock Band night you know this is not just for the kids.

lets take a peek at the set list for Rock Band 2

"Let There Be Rock" by AC/DC

"Kids in America" by The Muffs "Come Out & Play (Keep 'em Seperated)" by The Offspring" Alex Chilton" by The Replacements, "Pinball Wizard" by The Who

Add that with the stuff from Rock Band 1 (Boston, David Bowie etc)and all the downloadable content (i think at just under 300 some songs now) you have alot of music that not alot of "kids" would recognize

As well there is an 14 song AC/DC live pack out in November

Tack a price tag of the complete Rock Band kit (Drums,Guitar,Mic etc) at around $200 you cant tell me that this is a game aimed at kids.

Another thing that Rockband and Guitar Hero are doing is introducing people music that they may not have ever listened to before. I knew who Boston was but until Rock Band I never actually listened to it, there is some great stuff there.

The gamer audience isnt just kids, the people who grew up on video games are in there 30s/40s now and we still love our games.

well you dont really need alot of time to play EVE, since you can set your skill to train, log out and come back later when its done. If your bored you can do a few missions, rat for a bit, or mine. The time consuming part comes if you are blockading jumpgates, sieging POS or laying waste to a fleet, but only if you stick it out for the long haul. Since skills are determined by actual time, the only thing you really need to "grind" for is money. Money can be gained through killing NPCs, running missions, Mining, playing the market, pirating, scamming etc.

The only other thing I can think of that takes time the learning part. The new tutorial makes things a bit better but there is ALOT to this game.

But we arent really convincing anyone that games arent the vile tool of the devil like JT wants them to think, they just think he's a douche.

Just because the antigamer rep is a meat ball, doesnt mean the pro-gamer side is getting good press. We need to work at having parents understand the ESRB, have to work with companies to make them see that games arent just for kids, and even tho the industry makes billions each year, video games are quite misunderstood. The medium is still in its infancy, like film and television before it. Its up to the people who enjoy games to step up to the plate and push games as something good.

Personally I think violent, gory games and games that are of a more mature nature should be regulated to keep them out of minors hands, unless there parent buys it for them.
