  1. Paying to beta test is the norm now. on Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided Ships · · Score: 1

Sad but true.. just take alook at MMORPGs in general.. from first to the last.. unfinished and buggy is what you pay for and you get to beta test the rest of it once it goes live.

    Shining example.. Shadowbane..
for a game that took forever to develop and was in beta for just as long the finished product was buggy, imbalanced and unpolished.. even the most rabid of fanboys have began to shy away.

Daoc was somewhat the same.. unfinished dungeons and non itemized monsters.. unfinished incredibly unbalanced "uber" classes (some of which still remain)

Companies are going to have to stop releasing games before they are finished.. the "oh we can patch that later" mentality is really getting old.

sigh... I guess I can't really blame them tho.. considering the consumer still buys the games en-masse...

all I can say about SWG is don't buy it right away.. wait until they polish and add in the features that were suppose to be in the game months ago.

  2. Wait awhile before picking this one up. on Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided Ships · · Score: 1

Just like most MMORPGs these days Sony/verant releases SWG a little too soon without many of the features that players where looking forward to.

As well if you join now you get to be one of the lucky paying beta testers as the rest of the bugs, server problems, exploits and imbalances come to light. You'll laugh you'll cry you will yell nerf when that bounty hunter ganks you and your friends..

This game has alot going for it.. it just needs a bit more time to be polished.
Don't get burned and wait a while...

  3. Been considering this in our job place. But.. on Executing a Mass Departmental Exodus in the Workplace? · · Score: 1

the problem is getting everyone aboard.

At our jobsite the majority of people are contractors.. very specialized contractors that aren't easy to replace so they just can hire more people to replace us without months of training.
(Which our clients certainly won't stand for)

Because of the recent Compaq/HP merger we got royally screwed regarding our status as contractors.. We haven't had raises in years we have people working on the same jobs as us doing the same work yet because they are HP they work less get alot more money as well as bonuses better benefits and everything.. meanwhile they keep dangling the carrot of being absorbed into HP/compaq in our faces.. as they take away what we had before..

If we where to do a walk out it would be to force there hand and absorb us..

  22. fingerprints on Are Fingerprints Unique? · · Score: 1

Very interesting points in that article on how fingerprinting "became" scientific law. I questioned the whole validity of partial printing a bit but the general idea is solid IMO. You have a few sets of prints lifted from the crime scene. You run them through the data base at donut world and have Johnny FPE stare at them for a few hours, soon enough you have a match with some guy.. and he lives a block away from the crime. If there was a big world wide fingerprint data base and there was more than one match then you could eliminate the other people because they lived in different cities or continents. So even if by some coincedence that there is more then one choice you can deduce who is the culprit.

I used netscape 4.0 for a long time then decided to give the "evil" microsoft a try and I never switched back. Well on the brighter side if netscape didn't suck so much I wouldn't have job.

The DVD feature on the system is great but alot of feedback that I gotten from other DVD owners is that the Playstation 2 doesn't do as good of a job as the other DVDs players out there. Personally I find the various options and tools you choose to configure the settings badly laid out but as for the quality of picture and sound quality I don't notice too much difference. For me it wasn't the DVD that made me want to get one. The mix of the backward compatabilty and the new system itself definately made my mind. Hell you can use your old Dual Shock controllers on it and the old memory cards as well. (at least for the psx games) the dvd feature was just gravy on top of the total package.
