It seems as though there are a lot of negative comments here from people who just want a phone to be a phone. If this is the case then dont buy this phone! Slashdot release news about interesting geeky products, not boring ones. If you just want a phone that calls and SMSs then get the Nokia 1100 or 1101.
This phone actaully has a great spec. Lots of people don't seem to be reading the article. Battery life will be similar to the N91 for playing MP3s, i.e. about the same as an iPod. The MP3 player has a better interface where you can actually search without scrolling through all your songs.
The camera is no DSLR but that's not the target. It's a 3MP with a good lense. It would replace an average $150 digi cam.
The video recording also looks fantastic, with resolution and bitrate that will look good on a standard TV - possibly better than home (analog) video cameras. It has TV out as well.
It runs S60 so you can write your own programs or download other peoples. There's thousands, possibly more than Windows Smartphone / Mobile.
This phone has an undeniably great spec. If that's not for you then don't get it.
At least on Symbian phones (eg my Nokia 7610), u can conenct 2 a PC + make it look like a COM port connection. You could send any data through this. I dont know how fast it would be for audio though.
I'm waiting for the Nokia N91 with built in wifi. Mmmmm
I saw that episode! He remembered the tune the keys made. He tried some part of the tune, but then said something like "maybe it wsa the verse, not the chorus" + it worked. Someone should google it. That would be fun.
As a uni studnet I have lots (>100gb) of (mostly illegal) music. One of my friends told me to listen to an album by Nitin Sawhney (google him), as he thought it was good. I downloaded it off him and liked it so much I went to see him in concert with some mates and have since purchased 3 of his albums. This would never have happened without illegal p2p. We have a saying on our file sharing network: Sharing is caring.
If I like music lots then I buy it on CD. It'd be so much easier if I could just donate straight to the artist online.
I'm pretty sure (95%) TV Licensing people cannot enter your home without permission / a warrant. They are a profit making company, not a government organisation.
I can understand why they did it. Many customers are used to the continious upgrading all the time. If they can make money, they probably will.
Of course they'll upset a few users. Maybe one or two will stop using their software. Most of the people who weren't going to upgrade wont upgrade now anyway. The people who may have upgraded will now definately upgrade.
If I ran a company for profit and had the opertunity of making lots more money and only losing a few customers I'd do it.
Of course the idea of FOSS is better. Quicken is not FOSS though. Until a free alternative comes out, and has a large marketting budget, people will still use Quicken.
First they try to stop us making 'back ups' of our music and videos (for personal use of course), then they make it even harder for us to make 'back ups' of our money.
This phone looks ok, but has anyone seen the P800?
The P800 is verily cool - I would get one if I wasnt a poor student (you can send me money if you want, cheers;-). It can do just about everything the T610 can do + lots more. I think the only bad thing about it is the Sony memorystick instead of SD or something.
3G phones seem to almost be here (UK). I wonder what they'll be like. Anyone know S-E's pland for 3G? What I want is a phone that I use as a PC when I'm at home, not just on the move (with a contact lense screen of course).

What about putting .nyud.net:8080 in the URL and using the Coral Cache? Wouldn't that reduce the strain on the server lots?
I've got a bluetooth video thing working on my Nokia 7610 to my PC. It was a bit slow though.

Use vlc. That can skip to any part of a DVD. It even has a fast open thing where it goes straight to the film. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
I made this ages ago: http://spran.co.uk/d/sarcasm
Even better:
Knock knock!
Who's there?
Dr Who
Dr Who who?
Yeah!

Google say "POP access is free for all Gmail users and we have no plans to charge."
