There are the @home projects. Are these not supercomputer-like projects. How much fruit falls from those trees? Is a single supercomputer going to do much better than that?

Since this is way more important than filling the seat for the Supreme Court, I say more power to them. I am sure that click bait has been on all the sites mentioned, as well as all the far left and right. All the sites everywhere massage their trending topics.

I got to level 64 with just over two hours of play. I wonder if this game will have the longevity power to keep people interested. I play with friends, but refuse to forever grind the same content over and over and over ..... ad infinitum. I was pretty bored with D3 after grinding to 60. I got my paragon from 17 to 45 with just one reset and a run through of the acts after the 2.0x patch.

  10. Black Mamba on Ask Slashdot: Anti-Theft Devices For Luggage? · · Score: 5, Funny

Fascinating creature, the black mamba. In Africa, the saying goes 'in the bush, an elephant can kill you, a leopard can kill you, and a black mamba can kill you. But only with the black mamba--and this has been true in africa since the dawn of time--is death sure.' Hence its handle--'death incarnate. Its neurotoxic venom is one of nature's most effective poisons, acting on the nervous system causing paralysis. The venom of a black mamba can kill a human being in four hours if, say, bitten on the ankle or the thumb. However, a bite to the face or torso can bring death from paralysis within 20 minutes. The amount of venom that can be delivered from a single bite can be gargantuan. If not treated quickly with anti-venom, ten to fifteen milligrams can be fatal to human beings. However, the black mamba can deliver as much as 100 to 400 milligrams of venom from a single bite.

  14. Poul Anderson, The High Crusade, maybe Eddings on Ask Slashdot: Best Science-Fiction/Fantasy For Kids? · · Score: 1

The High Crusade is a pretty simple book that I loved and remembered reading as a kid. It is a good start into SciFi and easy to picture in ones mind while reading. I also suggest David Eddings, the Belgariad series as a good place to start. Good books with lots of imagery and not to difficult.

  15. May 5th is free comic book day. on Ask Slashdot: Which Comic Books To Start My 3-Year-Old With? · · Score: 3, Informative

The first Saturday in May is Free Comic Book Day. There are plenty of kid comic books out there and the Marvels and DC's even have young versions of the top titles/hero's. Here in Las Vegas, we have some great owners who are very helpful and any good store should be able to find out what the kid likes and suggest a few to start. Maximum Comics woo hoo. 16. Golden Rule of Testing. on What Does a Software Tester's Job Constitute? · · Score: 2

Those who can, do. Those that can't, teach or QA.

While not always true, you have probably heard the above statement many times. Testers in many cases are responsible for bringing the whole project together. Other departments might make portions, a graphics/animation department, software programers, maybe math groups or database, however you are the one who has to test all the components together. For all this responsibility you get the least amount of pay, and are expected to know everything about all the parts and pieces. Blame QA is the common cry heard among companies, when something gets out buggy. The job itself could be ungodly script running repetition, or pretty cool new project stuff that has not been automated and the bleeding edge of the companies new products(with ungodly script repetition to follow later).

It tends to be a pretty thankless job, but in some cases it could be a good way to get into the company and use the job as a stepping stone for a better paid, less responsible, software developer (or otherwise) job at that company.
