Oh yea, remember that 2002 or whatever make of The Time Machine? With the fragmented moon? Lets just hope this time it doesn't come crashing down on Earth.
Well, technically it didn't come crashing down on the earth, the explosions they created for the lunar colony caused the moon to drop out of its natural orbit, which in turn has massive gravational effects on earth that more or less started tearing apart the continants, forcing people to make a decision to either try and survive on the surface, or retreat underground for their survival.
If the fans apply enough pressure, they might just do what they did with Jericho. Make a 6 episode season where they can potentially end the show, as well as leave the possibility that the show could return if the fan base stays. At least this way they will be able to tie up that huge cliffhanger at the end of season 2.
The show was good, a handful of people here saying it sucked makes no difference in the big picture. What the article dosn't talk about was the change-over in corporate leadership and show time scheduling. As the studio leadership changed over, they had new people take over that wanted to push their perfered shows; the re-do the scheduleing and put Terminator: TSCC at a time slot that was certin to kill the show, just so they could take the better time slot and push their programming. Also, they never really announced when they changed from the orignal show day and time. The die hard fans picked up on this, but the regular viewers who enjoyed the show had no clue and figured, hey guess it got cancelled and never bothered to look into it further, so the ratings dropped, and the show finally did get cancelled. Too bad, it was a good story line, and they never had filler episodes, each episode was a continuation of the previous, which i liked very much.
It's a crime that the police just sit back and hand out overly expensive tickets rather than put in the effort it would take to spot unskilled drivers, or, even better, teach people how to drive safely at higher speeds. North America would benefit from an autobahn type open sped system, sadly, our governments are addicted to ticket revenues.
The main problem with your arguement is that the vast majority of north american drivers is their ignorance. They do not posses the basic driving skills which they would require in order to drive safely at faster speeds. everytime i drive on any major highways throughout and major city in either Canada or the USA, and you see the lack of skill on the drivers part. They will not signal their lane changes, they will drive slow in the passing lanes, they will not switch lanes to make room for emergency vechiles, they will pass a vechicle in whatever lane they like... these are but a few problems with the vast majority of all drivers here. Until these skills can be brought into check, we will never see the likes of an autobahn style road anywhere in north america.
If you don't like the things I say in my blog, wouldn't the most rational reaction be to simply don't fucking read it???
This comment sorta reminds me of a story some researchers did a while back about Howard Stern. Their findings came to two intresting conclusions; the average listner who enjoyed his show, would listen for around 20 minutes a day; the average person who hated his show and couldn't stand him, would listen for roughly 45 minutes a day (granted my numbers may be a bit off, but i'm fairly certain they are pretty damn close).
I've never met an employer that would tolerate anything near what "Josh" was doing; No documentation for code that is designed for a customer, so that you make yourself the only one that can fix any potential problems or needed updates = no job for the individual responsible and that code would never make it into the customers hands. I had worked with one such person, who was hired on as a developer, tried to have code sent out with no documentation (maybe he was hoping for job security by doing that, who knows), the code never made it out, and shortly after he was on his way out.
There was only 1 time I ever had to use obscure code that nobody else could understand... that was when i was in college to ensure nobody could steal my code and hand it in as their own.
the president has been set by the Australian court and now upheld yet again in the New Zealand court. Something tells me that we are going to be seeing many more of these types of "being served" in the future. What i'm really curious about is what happens if you terminate your account of Facebook, can/will Facebook provide (or be forced to provide) the archived information on the account to the courts for serving purposes? Should be something to look out for in Facebook's modifications to their ToS agreements.
What happens when we line the world's deserts with endless fields of solar panels
Well, the first thing you would need to do is figure out a cost effecitve way for the sand in desert not to chip away at the solar panals rendering the useless after the first couple of strong winds / sand storms blow by. This has always been one of the major disadvantages of building a solar power generating station in a desert. In fact before this $1/Watt was made possible, the cost to build and maintain one of these solar generating stations was mute compared to the power savings the grid would save if they were to take that money and use it to install solar panels the individuals homes for who that plant would primarly serve.
Actually, Maxis already created a game called SimFarm which more or less simulated all the activities of a farm, i remember playing it way back in the day, but i'm sure if some government agency made one, it would be far different... or would it? Anywho, here is the wiki link to the description, and if im not mistaken, you may even be able to downlaod a freeware version of the game as well.
If you were to hit anything on the way.. bad stuff!
I remembered reading a story about british scientests creating an energy shield that would be able to deflect charged solar particles away from a ship, however the atricle says that these are early results that they have obtained and would be quite a ways away from creating anything viable for use on a space shuttle/ship. Now I wonder if they would be able to modify this application in some way to deflect objects bigger than charged particles. Only time will tell i guess, anywho here is the link to the article about the british scientests:
Now I do recall another article (it may have even been on/. about scientest that had actually created a "shield" that could cloak an object the size of a toaster from radar, and in theory they speculated that if they were able to "significantly" increase the power output to the "shield", then it may be possible to deflect larger objects and even energy based weapons... however i cannot find the old link to that story.
The question that now remains is whether or not the additions make up for the fact that the game's concept is no longer new and unique. Read on for the rest of my thoughts.
If the story line holds true and they continued with it; and they didn't butcher the engine, then this game will be great. The concept is still unique to this particular title. Take a look at Half-Life/2/EP1/EP2: They stuck with the story line, made some new additions as they continued with it, and were extreamly sucessful with the franchise. I for one know that the first time I played F.E.A.R., it was by far one of the only games that actually made be jump at different times throughout the gameplay. Can't imagine this doing bad (like i said above, so long as they dont fuck with the story line -- or butcher the engine).
Five bucks says that the current TOS already contains a clause that they can change it without prior notice. The users will never know.
Im no expert, but i dont think they could include a clause like that, its under the same premis like MMO's that make you click on the "I agree to the TOS" link everytime you start up the game, before they let you actually load it up. I always sent messages to the MMO's asking them to only have the TOS pop up for us to agree to it when changes were made, that way people wouldn't automatically keep clicking on just to get into the game. Never did get any replies from the MMO's on the subject, guess they just like having blind compliance from the mass of users playing the game. I know i definatly dont read the TOS every time I load the game to looks for changes in what I agreed to the first time. Just my two cents though.
Stare at that for thirty seconds or so then look at a blank wall and blink a couple times.
Damn you! why couldn't you have provided a link like that to a sweedish swimsuit model instead... now i got this bearded freak who looks somewhat familiar to me, i think his name is Buddy... something....
Apperently you haven't seen any of the pay-for-content sites on the internet. I know your experiences as a slashdotter are quite limited, but surely you have come across one of those porn sites you have to give up a credit card number to get into... Same concept applies here. The internet is Free as in freedom, not Free as in beer, and it has always been that way.
So basically you're trading one subscription based service for another and just changing the way you listen to it. Also, something tells me that the average internet radio channel would not have the finacial support to pay for the same content that XM offers. Something tells me that you will simply get one internet radio site that will outdo the rest of them, they will lock in a few million subscribers and will offer all the big name shows for a low monthly cost./. should do a poll attached to this story and ask the simple question of how many people are willing to pay for an internet based radio subscription.
Even though the internet is a much cheaper way of getting access to these wonderful radio stations, is the internet going to pay the overhead cost of obtaining people such as Howard Stern, Oprah, the NFL, and MLB? I mean, XM pays Howard Stern to have him air his shows on XM, i'm not sure how Oprah, the NFL and MLB do it, i would imagine it have to be basically the same concept. But who knows, i could probably be completely wrong in this case (wouldn't be the first time). Anyone else know?
Nigan: He does fit the profile perfectly. He's intelligent, but an under-achiever; alienated from his parents; has few friends. Classic case for recruitment by the Soviets.
Arthur Cabot: Now what does this say about the state of our country, hmm? I mean have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions. [the General rolls his eyes]
Nigan: No sir. He says he does this sort of thing for fun.
As for all the new discoverys i'm sure these new telescopes will find, i'm curious if they will do the same thing with these as they did with the hubble, by pointing it at a "black" region of space and leaving it there for a while gathering exposures, only to discover that the region wasn't "black" at all, it was completely filled with all sorts of different galaxies, and this was only a small point in space they were looking.
Here is the link for the Hubble info in case you're intrested.
Sounds like we would simply need the device listed in paragraph 3, sentence 5 here :-)
in order to decrypt it

com'on now, dont you get 30 points automaticlly for writting your name? Maybe an extra 10 if you spell it correctly....

With the kinetic energy powering the device having my phone die during lengthy phone sex calls is a thing of the past! Yaaaay!
Yeah, but in order for it to charge you would have to use the friction / bending action from the phone being wrapped around your........ *ewww*
