I'd have to think if they are serious about gaming, especially FPS and RTS gaming, that a keyboard/mouse setup would be mandatory, no?
Well, a mouse is a mouse. As far as keyboards go, they could skip that and opt to design something like the Claw for FPS and RTS gaming. One thing's for sure, Microsoft knows how to make game controllers; I still use my Sidewinder game pad, I've had it forever.
I can see being able to telnet (or, preferably, ssh) into the machine for administration, but does anyone know if you can hook a keyboard up to the X-box? ---
The annoying thing though is that, although firewire might be better, most motherboards don't have them on-board. So USB 2.0 would be nice for those of us (ahem, all of us) that have USB ports on our computers. ---
Wow, I guess you're right, because I'm sure since Bush holds the highest office in the land he doesn't have to authorize or even dictate what the foriegn policy people do, right? And let's just remember who hired Colin Powell for a minute -- George W. Bush. So instead of calling me a fucking idiot, why don't you offer up some evidence that proves me wrong, otherwise you're just another idiot slashdotter posting stupid comments and not understanding what the hell you're reading. ---
I think we just bash her because she's yet another tool of industry, and she sucks, just like all the clones before her and all the clones to come.
Are you going to back this up with any evidence or are you just spouting this because you think it's "cool" to bash her because she's a mainstream artist? WHO is she cloning? HOW is she a tool? Enough with the hot air, start convincing me.
That is what's important, actually. Musicians make a living off of selling records. And obviously, if they're selling records, they're making music that people like.
I'm glad you feel the need to lash out at the uber-culture and mock Britney Spears; do you even know what she sounds like, or do you just bash her because everyone else in the world likes her music?
It all seems pretty simple to me -- if you want to use what the manufacturer has given you, you use it according to their terms. If part of the service they provide includes upgrades, they include upgrades. For one thing, it'd be a nightmare to have to do tech support for different units, some with the X patch, some with the Y patch, some with both, some with neither, etc. etc. Just upgrade the damn thing! And if you don't want to upgrade, then don't use the service, plain and simple. If the company makes bad changes, no one will use it, so it's in their best interest to make good changes...
I think Dairy Queen should sue Blizzard Entertainment, since Blizzard is clearly trying to cash in on the popularity of Dairy Queen's long-time best-selling frozen treat. ---

Ruthless.com was a great turn based game. It's not that old, but I always thought it was a shame that it didn't catch on. But, I don't think computer games are as fun as games you play face to face with other people. Nothing beats a long session of Vampire LARP or Diplomacy.
I find it interesting that Microsoft owned shares of a company that sold directly competitive products (Linux vs. Windows, Wordperfect vs. Office, etc.) Doesn't that seem counterproductive to anyone else? I mean, if I'm wrong help me out. ---

I work as an internet developer, and frequently have to code for the "lowest denominator"; that is to say, so code so that it will work on even the lowliest of browsers (really old versions of Netscape, for example.) And a lot of times, that entails re-writing portions of code because one browser may not like/support a feature, or the page layout becomes completely screwed up as a result. I'm all for upping the ante and forcing browsers to be able to handle certain things; I just think we need to make sure that IE isn't the only browser that can do it. ---

Everyone knows that Microsoft is dead in the water in three years, and everyone knows that Linux and the open-source movement will replace them. These things are beyond refutation, so stop pretending you're so innovative for pointing them out.
I'll refute that. Unless Linux miraculously becomes super user-friendly in the next three years, and also miraculously supports all of the hardware that Windows supports, and reaches the same performance level for multimedia that Windows has, then maybe, maybe Linux will replace Windows. And let's not forget about the X-box. I think you're a lunatic for even thinking that Microsoft is going to disappear just like that.
As most people in the/. crowd are generally concerned with civil liberties and personal freedoms, I'm curious as to why you would make such a statement. Isn't the right to speak your mind, just as important as the right to speak it without being identified? People should be able to say whatever they want, and still have the OPTION of remaining anonymous if they are speaking about something personal and would like not to be unfairly singled out/identified.
It's been my observation that most people that post anonymously on Slashdot don't want to be singled out/identified because they are saying something stupid, immature, verbally abusive, racist, or any combination of the above.
But why is being an active participant better than being a passive spectator? Does one need to be active during all waking hours in order to officially participate in life? Does this mean I shouldn't listen to music anymore, but should instead write it anytime I have the urge to hear a note?
I'm fairly certain that Xbox Technologies will yield as soon as Microsoft dangles enough money in their faces. Microsoft has already spent a lot of time and money on the X-box; they've already used the name so much that for them to change it now would destroy the image they've been building. This will stay out of court, and the owner of Xbox Technologies will probably be retiring to the tropical island of his choice soon enough. ---

Because some people don't like to play sports? Because some people don't want to get tackled and accidentally break a bone? Because some people just suck at football and play other sports instead? I can't list a billion reasons... ---

Ah, my bad, I was told that you wouldn't need a hardware upgrade for USB 2.0, presumably by someone who was misinformed. Moderate me down please!

So it's not that the WWF Wrestlers aren't skilled, just that they aren't skilled in the art of professional wrestling.
What WWF wrestlers do is professional wrestling. I think you are thinking of shoot-fighting.
