I have been using Mozilla 0.9.9 on Linux for extensive browsing and email since it came out. I use it with Codeweavers WINE based Crossover plugins installed.
Pages load faaaast, no complaints about any missing plugins ( thanks to Crossover ).
Mozilla worked beautifully without a single crash/hang, and all the while using very low system resourses.
I was always using Galeon with latest Mozilla, but with 0.9.9 Mozilla itself is so good, I dont use Galeon.
The only tiny complaint I may have is the non standrad GUI and its response time, but then you can always use Galeon !
I did ordered too, good job dude ( adipoli machaa ) , but how much does it cost ? I think I saw another poster putting it as only $299, is that true? Even then $129 is sweeeeeet. But reading the smllprint on BestBuy website I found this disclaimer "prices and offers may change" whatever ! Also note, GeForce4 Ti 4600 does not have SVideo out. So whats the deal with all the Ti XXXXX series ? Will the real GeForce 4 please stand up !
I like the idea, with ssh/vnc it can be very usefull for me as a control terminal from my couch. But the non-availability of quicktime, shockwave plugins on linux will make it less attractive as a surf board.
Maybe they should license Crossover plugin from Codeweavers and have mozilla preconfigured to use them.
But on second thoughts, I am not sure about the license issues of redistributing the windows plugins through Crossover. Crossover asks us to install the windows plugins through Wine by clicking through the vendors EULA and other stuff.
Even if Loki donates all the code to the community. The community cannot port games. Since the game publisher needs a company to license the code under some contract.
I hope another company picks up everything from Loki. Does all the contract/licensing stuff, but unlike Loki try and make use of volunteer work from the community to save money. I am willing to provide few hours of my time, for getting games on Linux and I sure hope there will be others.
I am aware of the issues of volunteer work vs full time employees. The contarct/licensing issues of closed source games. Maybe its all just wishfull thinking. Sigh..

I have paid 20$ for CodeWeaver's Crossover plugins. And like he said Shockwave and Quicktime run very smoothly with Galeon + Mozilla 0.9.8. Without having any noticable load on the system resources.
So do your part go pay 20$ and get Crossover plugin. While enjoying all the Quicktime, Shockwave fun, you will be helping Codeweavers in not ending up like Loki.
I had mixed feelings about Transgaming, since they may not be helping in getting Linux game ports and so on. But with Loki gone I might support anything that will get good games on linux.
Its fine with Crossoevr plugins, since Apple was not going to do a Quiktime port for Linux anyway. And I think I read that Apple did support Codeweavers in getting Quicktime working with Wine.

Nvdia drivers forces AGP to 1x due to corruptions
caused by AMD Irongate chipset signal integrity [ Mentioned at the

This newly discovered memory corruption with Athlon + AGP, is it contributing to the signal integrity of the Irongate ? Or is it a separate bug ?
Anyway this makes AMD look very bad in my view. There is a bug in the CPU and their chipset screws up my AGP to 1x. Sigh.
I am on linux and I dont care much about the magic lantern for now till FBI comes up with the
"magic lantern kernel module" required by law if you are running linux.
I am just curious how does this magic lantern will work ? How does it communicate back the findings to FBI ? Will products like ZonAlarm detect any communication attempt by trojans ? ( provided they dont follow symantec, mcaffee ) Or will it piggyback on an actual allowed communication channel fooling ZoneAlarm ? Anyone who knows more about the working of trojans and how ZoneAlaram kind of products detect it, and scenarios how to workaround this ?

Many points have been made, the need to know, pressurise the vendor for better security, prevention before patch comes out etc. Along with all these points I think there is also a strong fame factor as well. If I spend all my effort to track down a new exploit, then I dont want to secretly pass it on to the vendor. I want to publish it in all its gory details in bugtraq and let the whole world - especially the fellow geeks - know how clever I am. Dont deny me my >=15 minutes of bugtraq fame !
Earlier we did not had a very good choice for cross platform GUI, AWT/SWING did not have the performance of native GUI and WxWindows was not powerfull/rich enough.
Then came QT and I thought wow ! this is it, for my next cool application, eventhough I will develop it on Linux, I can make it available for Windows as well as Mac users.
Then I realised its only free on X, you got to pay around 1500$ to get it on other platforms even if you want to write/ditribute a freeware app.
On Windows you pay 50$ after rebates to get a copy of VisualC++ 6.0. And for 50$ you get a compiler, GUI class library, and IDE and debugger. And just for the QT library its 30 times more than Visual C++, how can any hobby programmer afford it ?
I hope Trolltech come out with a more sensible pricing for freeware developers on Windows/Mac which should help QT to gain more acceptance in the non Linux programming community as well.
Reading the links , I was not able to figure out whether they found the image during their search of random images on the web ?
Or did they use the known image from the ABC show and decoded it ?
Its less interesting if they already knew about the image, than to have found one out of millions of random images.

Since KDE is out of Germany and QT from Norway I was just thinking how much international connection Linux has compared to Windows or Macintosh which are completely US centric.

Does OpenOffice support a scripting similar to the macros in MSOffice ? If so would it be possible to see similar issues with OpenOffice as well ?
It may not be as bad on Linux/Unix because of the user processes not getting access privilages to do anything nsty, but OpenOffice has a windows version as well.
If there is a sizable installed base of OpenOffice , then maybe you can imagine OpenOffice script worms doing annoying stuff with user files/mails.
And if your friendly Mozilla/Kmail/Evolution/PINE mail tool has the MIME type set to open with OpenOffice then it can spread the worm around.
I tried the 6.0 beta as well as the Openoffice latest build with some of my.doc and.xls files and most of the things opened fine. Also the export to.doc files worked very well.
One feature that's missing is the "text-art" facility in Word. They open fine, only without the extra properties defined by text-art. I dont know if Openoffice/Sun has any plans for any text-art kind of feature ( I could not find anything similar in 6.0 beta ).
I think the alien theory is more interesting,
- even though there is no evidence - than the

I have used Mozilla Milestone18 and Konqueror for a while. I found Konqueror to be more stable
for browsing. Plus its beautifull as a file manager with Split Views, Directory Tree, and
a Terminal Emulator. So if you have a lot of
desktop real estate Konqueror with splitviews ( kinda emulates Opera ) and terminal emulator is all I need. Plus the split view can act as a side bar, where you can load any url you want. Dont have to mess with XUL/Javascript etc to create a side bar in Netscape6 ( also just saw a post saying you need to go to NS server to customise the side bar ).
There is no major complaints from me against Mozilla Milestone 18 loads fast and renders fast. May be the XUL generated GUI componenets does not quite gel with the native interface.
As for Netscape6: the installer just seg faulted for me:(

I could not find Qt 3.0 free version for Windows, and they dont say anything about it.

The statements you made about mozilla/staroffice might be true for the older releases.
But have you tried the latest 0.9.4 build of the Mozilla ? It does not crash for me, and works very well.
And for staroffice, even the versions I downloaded from openoffice.org was pretty stable and fast. Much much better than the 5.2 version.
