That we are all the product of a "Stargate" style alien race who needed slave laborers doesn't seem as outlandish to me as "the earth was created in seven days." More interestingly, though, it actually connects in some ways to the god myth... you know, like "created in his own image" and all that?

I wonder. If it was proven, beyond any reasonable doubt that we were created by genetic manipulation by a superior race, (created, not simply evolved) it would in a way prove the theists right. Religion harms humanity. I can think of no single instance where that statement doesn't apply. Before the 1960's, Christian theism was pretty much all hellfire and damnation. People got into peace and suddenly, god became a loving god. Before that, holidays were largely just church services and they pulled in and adjusted for some really nice human holidays like Christmas (as we know it) and Easter (as we know it). Religion seeks to clothe itself in higher things and ideals, but none of them originate from the religion itself -- it is merely an adaptation or an adoption of something which already exists. This is done to the point that religious people seriously believe things like "how can you be a good person without god?!" This in turn, harms the religious person's over-all view of man by making them believe all men are evil unless they are practicing [their] religion. This, in turn, makes them easier to kill without conscience.

On top of that, religion seeks to be the presumed origin of morality and that without religion, there would be no morality. This is demonstrably false, but as with nearly everything else associated with religion, they have no problems with spreading lies about their faith.

People don't need religion. They need to respect each other and to defend each others rights because to defend the rights of others is to defend your own. Let's imagine for a moment that the crime (this is not a criminal case, but a civil one, but since you are talking about rape...) is theft by burglary or theft by robbery. It's say victim A has never been a victim before, but always kept his doors locked and his money and valuables concealed from view. Let's say victim B has also never been a victim before, but level locked his doors and was pretty flagrant about his valuables.

Neither victim "deserves" to be robbed or burglarized. No one is asserting that. But when one person takes more care than another to prevent a crime from happening to them, it weighs in on the whole case in terms of credibility.

Now transferring these same relative conditions to rape victims, you can begin to see why some victims might have their behavior weighed in with the evidence. And this isn't only the case in criminal cases, but also in the case of insurace. Did you know you can save money on your car insurance by having additional security and safety features on your car? There's a reason for that. It's about factoring risk in with the equation.

Where you want to claim "victim blaming" I suggest it has more with creating an objective picture.

Also, I have to object to your comparing workplace harassment with criminal rape. It's a misplaced and extreme comparison. It certainly illustrates how extreme you are willing to be when attempting to make an argument.

It is obvious in cases such as sexual harassment, the first defense is "s/he no reasonable cause to be offended over language or to feel harassed given the type of language she uses on a frequent basis." I recall one particular female who used to work where I work now... she was pretty rowdy with her language and behavior. But from time to time when it was convenient, she would begin to make noises about harassment. In her case, she had no reasonable cause to be offended given her behavior. I was glad to see her go. She really upset a lot of people.

You are making the classic assumption that because she is a 'she' that she is a victim and is completely honest about her claims.... you know, like a particular single mother with a single child collecting child support from three men in three states.

Why should they spend money on R&D? So they can create the product they want to sell. Other people should do the same. As far as I'm concerned, as long as it can be shown that a technology which has been patented has also been independently developed by another party, then claims of infringement should be lost. After all, if the reasoning stems from money invested in R&D, what about the R&D done by the competition? What if they actually did their own research and development? And what if they did a better job than the plaintiff?

I'm sorry, but blood, sweat, tears and resources argument doesn't move me. Lots of and lots of people work their asses off daily and only get paid for it once. If someone does all the R&D, patents and markets their thing first and they make a profit, then they achieved their goal and established a reputation. There should be NOTHING that guarantees their business model except continued hard work and effort. This notion of doing it once and getting paid forever is just broken. Worse is the notion of getting someone else to do it once and then getting paid forever. But now we're talking about patent trolls and the entertainment industry.

I just don't get those quality hours to myself any longer. Life is filled with "things to do" and crap like that. Worse, sometimes I look back at myself thinking "look at all the time I wasted." I don't want to think that way really. There is some value in it... somewhere... somehow. I guess my problem was that I can't really do it in moderation. So the games I play are games I can put down at a moment's notice. The pain of having to stop when I'm in the middle of an involving situation is just too much sometimes.

But I'm only one type of gamer. There are lots of others... others I can't understand. Like the cheaters. I seriously don't get that. Many of us are addicted to the accomplishments and achievements; The goal setting; The execution of a strategy; the prefection of trial and error. Then there are the troll cheaters whose only purpose is to make other people angry with their faux-god-like cheats making themselve believe that knowledge is the weapon. (Yes, in the real world, knowledge IS the weapon, but in games, it's about actually being better or at least the best you can be.) All the cheaters do is take away from others.

And then there are the kiddies who do a thing which annoys other players... camping and hoarding. Reminds me of a certain set of children... they had to have been between 10 and 14 years old. I was playing Halo2 online. It was one of those one-on-one levels where if you got the rocket launcher, you could pretty much run the game. And that's when the kiddies started arriving. It became a race to get the rocket launcher. Took the fun out of it. Finally, I just let him have it. I got the shotgun and somehow managed to hit him in the chest and point blank range 5, 6, 7 times in a row. He just quit the game. Another player... same damned thing. I countered with shotgun... another quitter. And a third. It's not quite "cheating" but it is playing in a way that sucks the fun out of it. Why do people have to do that?

But I just had to be the vigilante, fighting the injustices with counters and proving that their flawless strategies weren't quite so flawless. Reminds me of the Street Fighter 2 game days... where one person would play a favorite character and thought he could be anyone with it. What'd I do? I asked them "pick the character I will use to beat you..." And I did. Because in the end, it was their singular technique that made them weak. I simply worked out a counter to whatever strategy they wanted to apply.

Gaming is not about winning for me. It's about overcoming limitations and things that hold me back or making the most of any given scenario. Cheating is changing the scenario and a false win. It doesn't matter to me if I win each time just as long as I do better than my last try in one way or another. And I can make games last a lot longer that way.

I'm sure a ton of people will disagree with my approach(es). They are different gamers. Even a few will probably even try to justify cheats somehow calling it a service to others or some such thing. It's crap. It's trolling and seeks to get one's jollies by causing someone to rage. I pity those people. They have no idea of the harm they are causing to their character... their personal character... that is who they are as people. There are simply too many of those people... the people who bought up the Nexus 4 phones only for the purpose of dumping them on eBay for twice the price. They don't enjoy the gaming... they are just gaming the system... taking without giving anything back. "Flippers." I have no use for those dirt bags. A net loss on society as their gains don't even come close to the harm they cause like artificially raising values and creating scarcity where it shouldn't exist.

I guess I'm just about done rambling... it's time for bed. I'm tired.
