    could run diff.

    it's because the vendors wouldn't cooperate to
    make the privsep work and he got all frustrated
    because the other code couldn't be fixed in time
    either.

    it wasn't kept quiet for very long -- maybe a week
    or two while solutions were implemented. The big
    delay was that the vendors didn't believe it was
    real.

    this is so silly.

    if NPR really wants to prevent others from linking,
    they can configure their server to check the referrer
    portion of the web request. if it's not from an
    npr site, redirect to the policy page.

    it's easy to do in apache

    I agree, but it's hard to explain that to people.

    on the other hand, if someone wants to smear the GPL
    they can imply things that aren't true about it --
    like that if you use emacs to edit your code, you have to give your code away for free

    or if you compile with gcc, your code again must be free

    etc. etc.

    when in reality, the gpl is just saying that if
    your product uses emacs as it's built in editor,
    then you will have to share your extensions

    this would be the laser craft that is being worked
    on by a professor where I went to school.

    It sounds pretty crazy, but I think they plan to
    lift passengers and cargo into space using really
    big lasers to vaporize the air beneath the spacecraft
    for propulsion. I always wondered what would
    happen if the mirror on the bottom were not totally
    clean and hear built up.

    many of the older ones don't even have one

    even better, right? less complicated.

    Its funny when the apple people believe their
    own made up history -- and think the mistakes
    were divine inspiration and good design.

    sounds like Orwell's 1984 where they would
    simplify the dictionary each year taking out
    the unneeded words, thereby eliminating the
    ability to even think or talk about topics that
    the official government deemed dangerous or
    unnecessary.

    Sony makes so many really nice looking consumer
    devices -- it's a real shame that the company's
    official position is that the vaio is for windows
    only. It runs linux really well. But don't call
    Sony and tell them -- they will be annoyed.

    yes -- mozilla and galeon have gestures now

    I used to use opera for the gesture feature,
    but galeon and mozilla are getting better so
    quickly, I've switched back to galeon.

    there is a preferences option to switch the
    gesture features on, hidden in the settings pulldown

    ms does have a lot of money, but they use that
    as a reason to do nothing most of the time until
    the opportunity passes. Look at the history:

    webtv -- they bought it and sat on it

    go -- remember go, the pda in the early 90s?
    remember windows with pen extensions??

    somehow, pilot was able to make an entirely new
    market from something that microsoft bought,
    developed, then threw away because their research
    showed that nobody wanted to leave windows 3.1

    so, what I'm saying is that Microsoft's huge
    cash reserve actually hurts their innovation
    because they have no drive to make anything new
    or better.
