  1. Re:Sanity reigns??? on Abrams Says Paramount Will Drop Star Trek/Axenar Lawsuit (gizmodo.com) · · Score: 2

It looks bad, straight off the get go. Jar Jar A can not afford any worse of a reputation with sci fi fans, his dumbed down (for us not for him, I really think he is doing the smartest possible off which he is capable) content, is really annoying those for whom the science and story is the most important part of science fiction and not empty action scenes which suit the cheetos crowd. The star trek series teaser is pretty bad, wrong music, really wrong voice for the narrator, all cheetos action and no science, all indicates Saturday afternoon cartoon fare shown on a week night. The law suit was doing even more damage and reality is that content in the fan made pick is more science and story and does not really compete with Jar Jar's which is targeted at a completely different audience, all science 'from the gut' action and you just know they will being tossing more Christianity into star trek to appeal to their target audience.

Science is important? Where is the real science in a jefferies tube or a tachyon beam or dilithium? While I prefer the older stuff to Abrams, he hasn't done terrible with the story. It is fair to good, which is what many of the old shows and movies are with some exceptions (Amok TIme, Wrath of Kahn, City on the Edge of Forever).

And please, tell me where he is shoving Christianity in?

  2. Of course he is. Because putting the liquor, porn, and guns on the high shelf always keeps it from kids. So an internet license with your own unlock code and encryption will keep the internet away from kids.. right? Right?

There is an order of magnitude difference between TV. Or the works of Beethoven, and everything mankind has done or knows or lies about. The good and the bad. Beheadings, or Bartók, it's all there for good or ill. I won't guess what the net effect will be, but there is no substitute for parenting. Don't use the radio, or the TV, or the phone as a babysitter with no other input. THAT is the recipe for disaster.

  4. Re:O RLY? on Google Announces Allo, Duo, Stable Android N Preview, Instant Apps · · Score: 2
This is not what you are thinking. One on nexus devices (the only ones with N preview) carrier or manufacturer permission is not needed. However an OTA OS update uses the devices recovery partition to install the update. If you have flashed a custom recovery like me then you cannot use OTA updates, you have to manually flash.

So, hopefully this means less intrusive and easier updates to the OS. Once N is released to manufacturers and carriers, it is still up to them as to whether to push an update. Via either method.

This is why I only buy nexus devices now. There are too many orphaned devices with functional, more than sufficient hardware.

My story... I was one of the beta tester for idoom/ifrag that wrapped the ipx in ip packets. Then VA had a new governor (George Allen) that declared no games on state PCs. My only internet access was at school (where I worked in the PC lab). So, I kept playing, Doom, Doom 2 descent, hexen, heretic, etc. I was also in what I assume was one of the first FPS tourneys online. I missed a match and still placed 10th.

Also I recreated an amazing Doom 2 map (map 7 I think) in heretic. It got kicked of of cdrom.com due to copying id. Yah, fuck you and George Allen.
