Just read the any comment +3 or higher and you'll know why. It's just some n00b rippin on someone that doesn't know how to administer his own server. A closely related analogy:
I work in a small computer repair shop. Every so often, some kid(i use this term loosely, agewise) walks in and buys ~$700 worth of computer gear thinking, "ya, i can put this together... it's a computer, i can write a mIRC script, how hard can it be?" No less than 2 days later, the same kiddie comes back "I put it all together and it wont turn on!!! Save my computer!!!" or the more popular "You sold me a bad motherboard(thats when I really humiliate them)!!!" It looks just slapped together- 8 out of 10 times they dont use spacers for the motherboard, and I can usually revive it. The other 2 times, they put the processor fan on backwards onto their AMD 2800+, getting it to the point where it would turn on, but not give any display- let alone POST. They try 1000 different things, never checking the CPU again- and FRY it.
Anyways I got waaaaaay OT, but my point is if you're gonna run a system and GIVE A SHIT ABOUT IT, PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF HUMANITY, DISABLE YOUR GUEST ACCOUNT!!!!!
That windows is bad. When iTunes was exclusively for mac, any cross-network-P2P carried along almost silently. Not even a month after ITFW(iTunes 4 Win) was released, there is a program written to exploit the trust upon which the iTunes was founded. Just as one poster already pointed out, everyone loses. The Fscking RIAA will perpetuate the idea that no download DRM-less network is safe(which is true, because there's always some asshole willing to betray the trust of the ones who put the trust out there).
Apple offers what most people want, or at least settle for, a network where one can buy and download clean audio with no DRM. Apple sees that it's a success, and attempts to broaden their market by porting the service to W32. [too drunk to finish my rant]
Anyone ever heard of this site? It's run by the same people that make Lindows, and it's been around for a while. They make it nice and easy to (1)determine if you're eligable to recieve any vouchers, (2)redeem said vouchers. Also, it's possible to get an entire pc- probably one of those $199 lindows pc's, but hey it's free. Are you gonna complain?
Really, thats all it takes. Just like Microshaft believes they are in compliance with the antitrust agreement, Gator believes that their software is adware.
Keep in mind though. There's no truth in believe, but there is a lie.
I guess the public-at-large is more savvy than we give them credit for. People saw the loophole in this "amnesty" offer glaring them in the face, and decided it wasn't a good idea. FYI, the loophole was(is?) that signing up only guarantees you won't be prosecuted by the RIAA; you're wide open to anyone else. And no one has enough faith in the RIAA to think that they would actually do something to protect you.
It seems to me that when it comes to disrupting the order of the internet(the order that you and i fight to retain), there's a company called newdotnet which turns people's computers into dns servers which resolve TLD's such as.shop;.yo_momma;.etc....
I see this as much more damaging to the infrastructure of the internet than the hijacking of a couple of legitimate domain names.
Dont get me wrong, verisign is definately in the wrong here and my intent was not to downplay this.
I remember when we had our 486 dx4/100 at the house, it would make interference on channel 4 on our tv. shut it down and you can watch it, but with the computer up, it would be just static. I should also note that this was with no modding, a totally shielded computer. Those old AT's appear to have better shielding than an ATX. Also of note is that i run a pentium 3 now, with no side cover and have noticed no interference.
I am something of a jack of all trades, capable of programming, web development and networking ( to name a few ). Further, my experience only spans a few years ( 4 ).
There was an IBM commercial not too long ago, based on the premise of a basketball game. Linux slam dunking over Hacker, etc. I found it pretty funny. Also recently, there were some other funny ad's. The guy claiming "it's the future, i was promised flying cars. Where are my flying cars?" Or who could forget the business lie detector. I can only hope that their new ad campaign is as humorous as their ads have been.
Thanks for the clarification. My question remains unanswered, though. Will the ruling against SCO have any effect on this legislation being passed or not? If this legislation is passed, will SCO have more leverage in asserting their IP rights? If not, will SCO simply cower back into the shadows? Any answers or rambling rhetoric is appreciated.
I have been made aware that the european parliament is going to vote on legislation regarding software patents. Here is an excellent FAQ. I understand the vote has been delayed until Sept. 22. My question is will this ruling have any effect on the vote, one way or another? Though I am a shameless Windows user, I have been known to boot into knoppix now and then, and they have stopped development due to this pending legislation. I'd like to know people's thoughts on this and how it effects the future of linux development.

Now we have a legitimate reason to sue them into oblivion.

No viruses have been written that work under Mac OS X yet. See: http://www.macobserver.com/editorial/2003/08/29.1. shtml
Immediately after this post was made, it was discovered that OS X is a virus.
No really. The symptoms are very similar to the Ebola virus.
There's no library that can be assembled like the one that we assemble when we all put all our books together on the same set of shelves.
