I lived in Si Valley a while ago. I found that it was difficult to even *see* anyone come out of their homes. It's get up, hit the garage door opener, go to work, go home and hit the garage door opener again and repeat.
There is not much "community" there. No one sitting outdoors, having BBQs, going for walks.
It's fuggin' intense and not much fun.
My solution was to get the hell out of the valley. I transferred to a new location with my same company and had a blast. Back were the pool parties, the BBQs, going skiing, biking, boating.
I install old versions of MS Office on my computers. Some versions are VERY old but each "new and improved" version seems to be less user friendly and over-complicated.
I despise the crowded "ribbon" for Word and Excel. Pure crap.
I've found that Glassdoor has pretty accurate company-specific salary information. For generic position information across companies, it may be as you say. I know this because of looking at specific position salary information for my company.
The Work Number has salary information. I've gotten my information from the service and it's available to prospective employers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
I actually got my salary history from a credit reporting agency. I did it just for grins. I was rather surprised how accurate it was. I would suspect prospective employers could obtain similar information.
It's bad to lie. It will get you terminated should they ever find out what your previous salary was. In addition, it's just wrong to mislead an employer.
For me, I would reveal my salary if I'm looking to jettison my current job and would be content with making the same amount for another company.
If I wanted more, I would not indicate my previous salary but indicate what salary I would be looking for in order to be hired by the new company.
The Hawaiians were forced from their land a long time ago. Originally, their culture didn't value private land ownership. Later, King Kamehameha essentially sought to give the land away to sugar cane farmers in return for jobs and other favors.
The whole story is quite sad. If you travel to the islands nowadays, wealthy white folk own most of the good land near the coast. Locals are huddled up inland in relatively downtrodden neighborhoods.
Zuckerberg is just following through with the precedent that was established long ago, although it is equally-repugnant.
Sort of like Carly Fiorina this week when she called Trump brilliant. A few months ago, she wanted him to resign. However, if it's a government job for Carly, she'll say anything.
I hear ya. Charging to use the overhead bin really took the cake. Add to that, no reserved seats for cheapo fares until the last minute (potentially separating you and your partner), rude folks behind the counter and rude old bags for flight attendants.
They are my last resort also. The merging of two bags of shit (American Airlines/UA) in to one large bag of shit.
I use CM11 on a HP Touchpad because WEBOS was a joke to begin with and then evolved to being unsupported in the end. Now with GAPPS, I can download most of the apps I need on the hardware.
I have 3 tablets running it around the house and it works well.
I started out my career in Silicon Valley. Beginning around the late 70's, housing costs have skyrocketed. San Francisco is one of the most-expensive places to live in the Bay Area and has been for a very long time.
It's an issue of supply and demand. There is a very short supply of housing (nearly all land has been built on) and the demand due to jobs is very high.
I chose to move out of the Bay Area and move about 120 miles East, while still working in tech. My company saw the high cost of living and decided to build new plants elsewhere where the cost of housing (and living) wasn't so high.
I greatly-improved my standard of living by moving out of the Bay Area.
You can't really blame "tech jobs" for increasing the cost of living. There just isn't enough land to build on. It's already been "built out" so that increases the demand for housing, driving the cost up.
Also, San Francisco is a very bad place to raise children. There is no place for them to safely play. The schools are shit and the general population is rather snotty. The traffic is awful and the drivers are rude and impatient.
I don't know why an adult would want to live there, let alone one with a family.
I was working in Singapore once. At the facility, they had Western toilets. Above the toilets, they had instructions for the locals telling them "not to stand on the lids" when they took a crap. Seems they weren't used to sitting on one and were used to squatting over a hole to dump their load.
That brought on a whole different cultural perspective regarding what we consider to be common.

I'll never be back.
What a out sports? Playing baseball and football cause expensive injuries. So does riding a bicycle.

Why would I need a test to tell me I was drinking. Wouldn't I already know that?
Salary history is available to employers via The Work Place service (credit reporting agency spinoff).

Yes, I think I "recall" that.
The tablet cost so much to manufacture that they couldn't make a profit on it (somewhere around $235) so they sold it for $100.
I guess they made up with quantity :-^
That may be true but try to find apps on WebOS for the tablet now.
Give the SW to low GDP countries for cheap. Then watch the US and the EU outsource jobs to the low GDP countries because they're so inexpensive.

Argh. "Decades".

Wouldn't it be better to give job priorities to U.S. citizens who qualify for the jobs?
You haven't eaten at my company's cafeteria.
(my eyes are watering from laughing at this response)
You needed to include the "this may cause you to spray your coffee on your keyboard" warning WRT the peanut butter/shag carpet comment.
It's way too much reality for me.
Power wash with degreaser option of course.

Do they have a "finish you off" button?
Try Amazon instead of the B&M stores. You can also pick used copies up pretty cheap.
