I'm thinking that he's posting from the west coast. When I was out there this summer, blockbuster had the anime in the same section with the US 'new releases'. And they aren't just 'Card Captor Sakura' type anime either. I was able to rent the first DVD of Berserk which was right next to 'The Sweetest Thing'. ( Berserk is very violent and very bloody...even in Japan they had to air it at 2am in the morning )

Back when the comic started Rodney wanted it to mostly be about zombies and carnage. Piro was the one that wanted it to be like a Love Hina. A happy medium was met.
I imagine that this might work as some sort of anti-theft on vending machines. The vending machine would normally just output an advertisement. But if you try to tip it or wreck it in some way, it will incapacitate you with sound and notify the authorities. The ad companies would love this. Decrease theft AND get more advertising.
And once all the sides of buildings and buses are flashing, we'll see all those AD companies go out of business after being sued for all the seizures it caused.
NASA is a joke. It's money being wasted in experiments like this that is the reason that NASA never has any funding. We all know that there is the possibility of life else-where, until they stop fooling around with useless experiments and maybe remember to convert from metric maybe they'll get more funding. Until then Congress doesn't have a good reason to give them money for big projects. I mean, who really cares if exposure of space-ice to light produces amino acids? I think that development towards Mars colonization, or even moon colonization at that should be where the money is spent, not on experiments that get us no where, but give a useless tid-bit of knowledge for QuizBowl tournaments. how does knowing that space-ice produces animo acids from exosure to UV light, prove anything. we can't prove evolution or the creation of life from that unless we have millions of years to spend watching those animo acids in a space-like environment. Even if this proved anything, it's on a purely academic level and Congress couldn't give a hoot about that unless it somehow created jobs for their constituents.
I wish that I had that job. You get to sit around all day reading comics, just to tell your boss that comics are like real society. Just goes to show you that ever scientists like to waste the companies time and money too.
I wonder how many people are going to use this research for anything other than a junior high essay titled "what I did last summer" or a research report on "my favorite hobby".

I'm a student at the University of Michigan and I ran into the same problem as you. At U of M, the courses are basically the same except that there is more hardware stuff in Computer Engineering than there is in Computer Science. I chose to go the path of Computer Engineering because an engineering degree from U of M can go a long way, I'm told. It is basically up to you and depends on the college that you go to. Computer tech is an industry that is still in it's initial stages. The way the degrees are offered and the cirriculums that are required differ from college to college. For example, at U of M if I decide to get a Computer Engineering major, it will say Computer Science on it, but I will still have the "graduated from U of M College of Engineering" degree, but the majors for both Computer Science and Computer Engineering are about the same.
I, personally, want to code for a living. Some might encourage me to get a CompSci degree, but I would rather have the CE degree. Due to the fact that I will have to understand the hardware of the computer better, I think that it will make me a better programmer. The fact that the engineering school doesn't require me to take english or foreign language classes also drew me as well. I would rather take the technical writing classes that we have to take, than to have to take some boring english or foreign language class.
The choice in this matter depends mostly on what you want. Here are a couple of suggestions though. Find out what the differences are between the required classes for the CompSci degree and the CE degree at the college that you want to go to. Second, figure out what the basic requirements for the school (LSA or Engineering) that you want to go into are. These things vary from university to university so if you still don't know where you want to go, try and get this info from all of the universities that you are cosidering.

This is a really great time to be alive. When my dad was a kid, they were just starting to put objects into space, Sputnik being the first. And now we are seeing game shows that are promising to put normal people into space if they can answer a few questions right? How long will it be before we take the next step and begin to colonize space? I will admit that colonization of other planets is far off, but how long it is before we take on the task of creating the orbiting cities of modern Sci-Fi and such anime as Gundam W? I wouldn't be surprized if, by the time I reach 100, we have at least the plans for this goliath cities in space.
All of these vast predictions are probably no more than dillusions of gradeur. The only way that we could get the manufacturing power to create these cities is to have a sort of global unity that isn't currently conceivable. So maybe these predictions are as much vapor as a completely unbuggy of Microsucks winblows is, but isn't it neat to see how far we've come in a relatively short period of time? The space frontier not be developing as quicklt as the tech frontier is but it is intersting to see that we are reaching a point where the next step of any significance to take is to begin colonizing space.
It was a good marketing strategy by Sony, but I doubt that there will be very many GREAT games for the PSX2. The only games that I liked fromt the PSX1 were the Final Fantasy games and Metal Gear Solid.
I think that the Playstation 2 is a bunch of crap. Especially after Sony and the shortage of 50% of the million PS2's. I personally won't buy one. I am waiting for the X-Box which is supposed to have a tweaked version of nvidia's nv25 chip (two generations ahead. I will have to get the Gamecube as well though, just because I am a loyal nintendo fan and it has a few garaunteed hits (Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc). My only disappointment is that Metal Gear Solid 2 will be on the PS2. That is the only game that I see for the PS2 which I know can't be replaced by any game that will come out on either the X-Box or the GameCube. All that I have to say is kudos to Sony and their ability to create a high demand for a limited quantity item. But for the sane among us, we'll wait for the better systems (ones that don't try to support DVD but then fail miserably on release). The PS2 may be the best now but just wait a few months and watch how much better the competition will look. Let's just hope that this time nintendo can get more great games, rather than have a few really awesome games and an awesome system, but no large game library to choose from.
a.munchies, or maybe a.hackers. A.warez could work too. A.freexxx would be nice too (I wouldn't have to search for free porn anymore). It could replace Scour as my source for free porn. I want to see an.annoyingads so that I know where to go when I want to receive spam in my e-mail and get millions of pop-up windows that seem to never end and crash my browser. The other one that I want to see is.divx so that I know where to get my ripped videos now that Scour is dead. A.linux would rule.
I think that the developers should have more say in what they are making. Rather than being the grunts to get the job done they have more of a say in what they are making. It isn't just a few managers that are making the decisions for everyone. Sure, they do have a say in how they get the job done, but now they have a say in what the job is. I do not mean to say that management is bad. In fact some managers can be great people, but some on the other hand can have the ten foot pole that you wouldn't touch the with, all the way up their asses.
I think this is a great opportunity of the spread of HAM users. I am not one myself but I think that this is a great hobby, especially for children.
This is also a step toward a more commercial space. More and more commmercial launches are being made for satellites and soon other things will be being lauched commercially. The commercialization of space is the next frontier. We must embrace it or we may perish. What happens if we screw the earth up beyond the point of return? What will we do then? These are questions that we should eb asking ourselves now rather than later.

I think that the company that owned the rights to it died out or something like that
