Not so. They'll have a legally enforced monopoly on a very particular design of tablets.
Like the judge said: âoeThere are a lot of alternative ways to design a tablet device, as the market amply shows.â Doesn't sound like he has any interest in stopping others from making tablets.
Then, why did Apple choose to steal other peoples' design, when they could have design their own tablet?
I seem to recall that in Singapore the official penalty for chewing gum on the subway is a police-administered beating. Keeping things looking nice is easy when you can flog people with truncheons for messing it up.
Yes. And if they didn't have the law for chewing gums on the subway (and penalty is not the beating, of course), Singapore would look like Dhaka. Right?
Maybe you should get a passport and get out of whatever shithole you live in. There is a whole world out there, and it's not working according to your misconceptions...
The expectation of backlash suits was likely expected as less innovative companies scan their patent portfolios in a desperate attempt to limit the innovation gap between their company and Apple.
So, creating easy-to-use UI is "innovation", and Motorola (and probably others) is one of "less innovative companies"?
So, it's ok for them to sue someone because they think they own rights to rectangular shape with round corners, but when someone with real tech patent sues them back - they act like babies?
I can already run unsigned code on any of half a dozen PCs or similar devices I have that are not the 360 and are FAR more powerful. This is interesting-ish in that it's a neat kind of hack, but really... why would I want to do this now?
Because some people don't have half a dozen PCs or similar devices connected to their TV, eh?
Let's be blunt. Only nerds on tech sites worry about "closeness." They're a tiny niche that wants to keep their nerd playgrounds around. The vast majority simply wants good products that work.
Hopefully, one day someone will actually make products that work. Until then...
My guess would be they are glad to see Ghadaffi go, but nervous. The guy is an unmitigated asshole who has ruled with an iron fist and severely curtailed personal liberty, executed political dissidents, and taken most of the country's wealth for him and his family. You can bet he's not real popular, and I'm sure most people that aren't his cronies would love to see him gone.
Well, I guess 'consumers' in Libya will soon find out how it looks like when you have to start paying bills for everything, and when 'democratic' government is not giving out subsidies anymore (but money goes to themselves and their cronies).
Mind you, I really don't like Ghadaffi, but Libya is now going to end up like Iraq.
As for the rebels, I have been impressed with how they have persisted despite awful organization and very weak help from the West. I am happy to see them finally prevail.
Internationally, the "old regime" has little support.
The "old regime" had lots of support until few months ago.
But Gadaffi was a tough guy to deal with, so oil and infrastructure companies will have much easier time by simply putting their cronies into new 'democratic' government.
I mean, I've lived in 2 such countries, I still find it amusing to see how ignorant westerners are about these issues - they still believe it's somehow all done because of people and their freedom. Hahaha.
So you freely admit that Samsung stole the design of their tablet. got it. I love these posts fm the android talking points.
Samsung stole the design from Samsung's digital picture/photo frame?
Ok, this is an interesting one.
Not so. They'll have a legally enforced monopoly on a very particular design of tablets.

Yes, you can obviously make a tablet without fear getting sued by Apple - but Samsung decided they'd rather copy the design.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JooJoo
Is this what you had in mind, when you talk about 'copying design'?
And, obviously, I am not talking about Samsung copying the design...

To deny the obvious design cloning is to reach an extreme level of Apple-hating that even I can't understand.

Niche product is niche product.
I suppose you could call a Telxon a handheld computer too. But it's a niche product too.
So no, Fujitsu's tablets aren't general purpose enough to count.
Hahaha. You are so dumb.

I wish all tech companies would die.
But if they'd sell the same thing to US government, or NZ government, then it's ok?

So according to Samsung, if someone "invent" one day a Transporter like in Star Trek, that someone would not be able to patent it?
Maybe you should try to understand what 'design' means, first.
There's a fine line between staging a revolution and looting an electronics store, my friend.
Haha. Of course, there was no looting in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, etc - those were 'revolutions'.
But all there was in the UK was looting of the stores.
Right?
I wish I had your brain for a week, to get some serious rest.
Bold assertions. Care to show some sources?
Do you live in Libya? Or did you, at least, live in Libya for some time?
Or just you are another internet wikipedia detective?

Ahahahahaha. Very "weak help from the west"?
Holy crap, that universe of yours is amusing...

Daniel took his personal hardware with him, which happened to contain this hard-drive full of leaked documents.
Right. So, bunch of leaked documents just happened to randomly end up on his 'personal' hard drive?
Do you even realize how much nonsense you've put in that comment there, Daniel?
For 399 dollars, or in other words a pittance in financial terms, iPads can do ANYTHING the enterprise devs can dream up.
Obviously, you've never worked in an enterprise.
It is "stolen". Usual scheme, where cronies get to charge insane amounts of money for something, then split the cash with person who set the deal up.
you CAN get drm free mp3s from itunes now. has that actually decreased any piracy? nope.
And how do you know that?
Samsung is not "independently thinking." It's doing the opposite - mimicking Apple's products.
Which products is Samsung "mimicking", exactly?
Please, just don't tell me that tablet/icon look is Apple's "invention". I've had enough laughs today.
You ever heard of the newton?
He said popular.
Newton was not popular or first either.
it is probably too late now.
If people of USA would somehow manage to pressure government into disbanding TSA, you can be pretty sure that something would blow up.
And of course, it would be blamed on 'terrorists'.
You have no way out.
