The gov is here to prevent them from doing so; while it may do a poor job at times, the only reason you're not working 16 hours a day in a factory is because government made rules to decide what companies can and can't do, for people's good.

I started coding on the Atari 800 when I was 12, dropped out of HS and worked right away doing games; I've worked on several of the main franchises and I think most people around me, in my age range, were also school dropouts. I've never asked anyone about their education when doing interviews; I'm curious about what they've done, how they solve problems and their personality. I believe that if you're interested in a topic, you will learn it. At the end of the day, if our field, we need continuous education and it's a very specialized education depending on your area, so no school can really provide it. Having a high GPA may just mean that you're good at passing tests in something you don't care about and having a low GPA may also mean you put your focus on becoming good at something not covered by the GPA. For these reasons, it is meaningless to me.

What about women fighting their way to the top by having the right skills? do legislators think women are so weak they need to be helped by legislation? In my 29 years working, I just haven't really seen many women that interested by this kind of position and the personal and family sacrifices they entail. So that means that companies will have to pick women out of a small pool, which means they'll do compromises and get the wrong people on the boards and people will then blame these women.. It would be nice if we were able to vote-ban politicians when they come up with something stupid.

I can confirm that Apple is censoring posts about the lawsuit on their forums. I had posts deleted for mentioning it in a thread about the keyboard problems. If history is a good indication, that means they are aware these is a problem and it will follow the typical Apple playbook, which unfolds step by step through 1-2 years on every issue: - Deny there is a problem, attempt censorship - Blame the users - When users get fed up, receive lawsuit notifications. - Admit that some units are defective, but claim the number is small - Settle with a crappy repair program It's the same steps every time they want to cover a design flaw.

  16. I like the new keyboard a lot as well. yes, ESC can be annoying, but if you install HapticKey it makes the touchbar a lot better. The cursor keys on the other hand... making the left / right keys taller was absolutely retarded. After using it for a year, I still hit the wrong keys and I type for hours every day. I had keys not working and blowing compressed air while holding the laptop sideways has always fixed it; but it's a stupid fix, like the "you're holding it wrong" when the iphone 4 was losing connection. It has happened when you transport the laptop, as I guess dust shifts, which is even worse since you don't necessarily have a can of compressed air at the place you take the laptop out of the bag. Is the keyboard nice to use? most definitely, but Apple screwed up once again and it has become a common pattern now.

I lived mostly in the LA area and up North in Redwood city; in both places if you get a business connection, it's solid. In the EU, we had very good connection in Germany. I takes just a few days to see that life in QC is just not as comfortable on pretty much all sensible criteria.

Internet speed, phone coverage, regular power outages, etc. I lived in Vancouver, BC and, in QC, I was between Quebec and Montreal; Montreal is definitely years ahead of Quebec, no questions about it, but life was still very uncomfortable. Not to mention all the backward things like rules on alcohol purchases, mall closing times, delays to see a doctor, smaller selection in supermarkets, everything priced higher, etc. I had three banks: Scotia, Royal bank and Desjardins and all of them were slower when doing transfers and less accessible when you're trying to solve something (I had a business) than the banks in the US, which are still way behind the EU banks. And all my visitors thought the same as I eventually did: why put the energy to live there and have less comfort? On top of that, I'm a city and night life person and while I understand Canada has a good nature and family appeal, for me there was no pleasure at all. For reference, I was there from '97 to 2000 and in 2011-2012.

I went from California to Canada. I lived in British Columbia and in Quebec and I really really deeply hated both; it's cold, rainy, boring as hell, and I felt like I had stepped 20 years backward when it came to infrastructure and services. I know that Canadians are raised to believe Canada is the promised land, but the only reasons to like the place is if you love nature (which is amazing there), or you're from there and haven't seen much elsewhere. As someone that spent half his life in North America and half in Europe, I have to say that the only reason i would ever go back there is if we have a world shortage of fresh water and I would need to move there to survive.

  20. I like the new keyboard; I have a 2017 MBP and I've been quite happy with the short travel, once you get used to it, it's very nice. I don't like the keys on the touchbar, but it's not a dealbreaker; it's definitely slower than physical keys, no question about it. The one thing I just can't get use to are the cursor keys and I type several hours daily since I got this machine (last summer), so after so many hours, if I still don't land on them like I should, there is a problem. Also, I have had issues with dust blocking keys; once you put the laptop on the side and blow compressed air, it works right away, but this is totally retarded in a machine of that price. But hey, I'm probably using it wrong, right?
